I know for a fact that the paper is going to be submitted in two weeks with me listed as a co-author. I've seen the manuscript, and they're just waiting on a couple of figures. They have a title, and they're thinking of three particular journals.

I also have been working on a project that will definitely be a case report, because I've helped discover aspects that could cause the disease in a patient. Just waiting for the clinician to begin the writing phase.

I know that many of the final rounds of decisions for a few med schools I've interviewed with are happening now, but I don't know whether this should wait as an update post-decision. On the one hand, I don't want to miss an opportunity to lift me from a borderline reject to waitlist, or borderline waitlist to accept. So I was hoping to send an update saying that this paper will be submitted to one of the three journals on this date. On the other hand, I already have publications in my app, and I'm not sure whether this would have the power to change anything, so I don't want to come across as looking desperate either. On top of all of this, I was hoping to update them on the case report publication that I have been helping with although that's nowhere near full publication anytime soon.

I'm not sure whether these updates would be worth it at this point.

Thoughts/input would be helpful.

Also for papers sometimes it can take up to a year to actually be published so updating that it was submitted is premature as it could be rejected by all 3 journals or may not be accepted until December
