Hi everyone. I'm new to pre-dental, and would greatly appreciate everyone's input/advice/tips.

I'm an undergrad junior with a 3.5 GPA. I've taken all my math courses, Bio I/II & Gen. Chm. I/II, and currently taking Org. Chm. I and will take Org. Chm. II in upcoming spring semester. I did average in I's for both courses, and improved in II's but not to what I wanted. I'm doing definitely ok in organic I right now.

In general, can someone please tell me if it's too late for me to follow this pre-dental track? How about registering for the DAT? I heard how you should take it in your junior year (spring) but I'll be taking organic 2. Can I prep really hard in the summer and take it in the fall of my senior year?

you're fine. if you finish ochem II next year and study in summer for the DAT, you can apply and be on track to start in the class of 2008. Your GPA is decent and you'll want to study hard for the DAT. make sure you also have at least 20-30 hours of shadowing experience too, try to get that done early next year and then have that dentist write you a letter of rec if they are comfortable. also make sure to get the two science professor recommendations.

basically, I would start studying for the DAT in april or May, a little at first and once school is out really really hard. Fill out and submit the AADSAS in Late may, early June. Don't wait to submit it, submit it without your letter of recs or your DAT scores if they aren't ready, just submit.

take the DAT uin mid to late July and make sure your letters are in by then and you have a good shot at getting in so long as the DATs are good and everything else stays on track.

Thanks for the advice, djeffreyt! I am planning on studying extra hard when I don't have classes anymore. Everyone on this forum agrees that DAT the Destroyer is the way to go. I shall start studying.....now.

The best way to go, at least for me, was to study for 6 weeks of the summer about 10 hours a day of Kaplan, Topscore, and Achiever, and keep taking ractice tests for the last two weeks of studying. Topscore was most similar to the real things, and Achiever was so hard that I was able to go from a 17 ts on Kaplan to a 23 ts on the real thing!
