Would good GPAs and good DAT get you an acceptance?

Lets say you get a 3.9 and 25 DAT score with the minimum requirements of volunteering (200 hrs) and shadowing (100 hrs) with 3 letter of recs. No research no student athlete no president no musician no nothin. Probably some work experience as a tutor for organic chem, biochem, physio, and anatomy. Would these stats get you an acceptance?

Those stats get you an interview. How you present yourself at interview is a key factor.

I agree with you, but it is kinda unfair, his whole accomplishments, dedications, and hard work for so many years are determined by an interviewer!

Unless he is gonna insult the interviewers and act like he owns the place, he should get in.

I mean what more they want from the applicants, to be aliens?

He does not have good stats, he has great ones.

If you have those stats, you are in a great place to be and that should get your foot in the door for sure.

However, as someone who did not get in this year but received an interview, I have to say it's important to NOT underestimate the interview process.

@asdf99 is right. The entire application cycle is a total crapshoot. I got acceptances from schools I didn't think I'd have a shot at and rejections from schools I was sure I'd get interviews from.

I agree with you. Dentistry is a interpersonal profession so I the applicant has great stats, good shadowing and volunteering hours, but goes to the interview and sits there like a robot...then the chances of getting accepted are close to zero.

Tough situation to be in. But I think if you remain positive it will definitely help you out, there's still a chance!

3.9 GPA and 25 DAT will give you a great chance at every school.

You have some amazing stats! Just show that you are social at the interview and you'll be golden! Apply broadly to 10 schools and you'll have a great chance of getting into a lot of them so long as you do good at the interview.

Good luck! 🙂

Doesn't really matter. There's more to being a dentist than test scores. If you bomb the interview (something I've seen someone do first hand while on the interview trail) no score will save you.

I'm going to be honest, there's more to it than just being friendly and not insulting the interviewers. I'm not saying this to discourage them or you, but as someone who blew an interview and now has to take a gap year, I'm just encouraging you all to take the interviews seriously.

At the interview stage, everyone had the marks and test scores, so stats don't provide much padding (at least in Canada)

1,000,000x agree with this. No point in playing the guessing game. Make yourself as competitive as you can and apply. The rest is not up to you. Look around SDN, you have people with 3.6-4.0 GPA and 21-26AA applying 2-4 cycles.
