I have read everything there is on the KCOM website but I still have a few questions. I know Missouri has several rotation sites. Once you match into a region, how is the specific location determined. Also, I am from California and would be interested in the rotations in Arizona. Can anyone comment on them? Your experiences, likes, dislikes, etc. Thanks!

I'm an MS-IV at KCOM. There are several opportunities to do your clinical rotations outside of Missouri. In fact, most students end up outside of MO. To answer your questions about regions...during your second year at KCOM, you and all your classmates will participate in a "match" which will determine which hospital/hospital system you will do most of your rotations at. You will NOT match to a region. The Arizona site is a little different because it's comprised of several hospitals. I believe the colorado region is a little like that too. But, like I said, most students will match to a specific hospital. Oh, and I think that the first choice match rate is usually around 92-95% so most folks are pretty happy - even if they match to their second choice.

In my experience/feedback I've gotten, not all sites are created equal (how could they be??). Which site to rank as #1 is a multi-factorial choice for most people (proximity to family, weather, diadactic strength, how many and how large the post-doc training programs are at a given hospital, etc, etc).

Hope this helps.

Would you happen to have the list of all of KCOM's current affiliated rotation sites? Thanks in advance for your help.

Thanks for your help. Do you or anyone else know if it is difficult to get core rotations at Maricopa, Mayo-Scottsdale and University of Arizona Medical Center? It would be great to be able to stay in Phoenix for all core rotations as well as access to these quality ACGME sites. It would be interesting to see if the opening of ATSU-Mesa will impact access to rotations across the board for all DO schools that rotate there ie AZCOM, KCOM, ATSU-Mesa.

To answer your question about having access to Maricopa, Mayo, and UofA...I know you'd be able to do electives at those places during your fourth year. I might be wrong, but I don't think those hospitals are KCOM core sites - possibly with the exception of Maricopa. It seems that I had some classmates that did some core rotations there - but they were limited. You could try calling the office of the Arizona Region Director of Medical Education?? I'm sure that # is on the KCOM website.

Thanks for your reply to my questions. I was just curious about these sites because they were listed in the affiliated clinical rotations sites in the KCOM website. I will definitely give that office a call to confirm. Thanks again!
