Hi guys! I am applying this cycle and would love some help narrowing down my school list. I am a California applicant. I have extensive community service. I have volunteered in the hospital and have shadowed.

I would love some help assessing where I stand as my GPA and MCAT are not super strong, but the extras of my app might make up for it somewhat.

Here is my list of schools:
  1. UCLA (Prime & Drew)
  2. UC Davis
  3. UCI
  4. UCR
  5. Rush Medical College
  6. Boston University
  7. Tufts
  8. Albany Medical College
  9. University of Rochester
  10. University of Arizona
  11. Oregon Health and Science University
  12. Drexel
  13. Brown University
  14. University of Utah
  15. University of Washington
  16. University of Buffalo
  17. Wayne State University
  18. Temple University
  19. Jefferson Medical College
  20. Commonwealth Medical College
  21. University of Minnesota

Public med schools outside your home state want to see top 5% candidates from out of state. So a Utah is as much of a reach as a Harvard.

It makes no sense to not have USC on this list.

Thanks for the response. I will look more into that, thanks. Whoops, USC is actually one of my top choices - didn't mean to leave it out.

Drexel is very low yield (~15000 applicants for 250 spots).

You might get more help if you post in the WAMC thread over in pre-allo. Or maybe a friendly mod will move it for you. :)

Thanks! I will post there now. Sorry, new here.

Your stats are below the median for OHSU and they tend to be stingy with their out of state acceptances.

Check out Vermont and Iowa for OOS admissions.

I suggest:

Rush (note: very service/experience oriented with a 150hr service requirement. Avg student has 800 hours of community service, and >1800 hours of health care exposure.)
NYMC
Creighton
Albany
Rosy Franklin
Drexel
Temple
Loma Linda (but read their list of don'ts)
MCW
St. Louis U
WVU
Jefferson
Tulane
Loyola
U Miami
Wake Forest
EVMS
VCU
Netter
Oakland-B
Western MI
Any DO program, starting with Western and Touro-CA
UCD
UCI
UCR IF you're from the Inland Empire.
I can't recommend CNU.
