Even though one of my goals in life is to travel and as much as I would LOVE to have gone to Europe or any place outside the US, the truth is that I have no traveling experience. And one of thequestions in one of my secondary applications is to describe the meanining travel experiences I have had.

I have NONE. How am I supposed to answer this question? This such a disadvantage because I know many applicants have had the opportunity to travel and will be able to talk about their awesome experiences? I just feel that well I had no choice in the decision to travel, it is not like I choose not to go ANYWHERE.

Guys, How should I answer this question? Any suggestions. Please help.
Thanks

You don't have to have travelled far to have travelled somewhere new. Is there somewhere you've been that was at all different from where you live?

That or talk about a specific place you want to go and why? It doesn't seem right that you should be at a disadvantage for not having been able to travel. What school is this?

Ugh, that reminds me of how in college in my Spanish classes we would go around and everyone would list off all of the places they have studied abroad/vacationed. And I had never been to a Spanish-speaking country... or any other country for that matter. 🙁

Now I've finally been to Europe, but only because my mom is still paying off the credit card bill for our trip! 😛

What schools is this? That's a very interisiting question for a secondary!?!

Come on. I'm sure you can come up with something.

However, it's perfectly appropriate to let them know that you did not (perhaps) come from a wealthy family, since travel takes time (money) and money! I wouldn't appologize for not having had the luxury of traveling Europe on your parents dime. Maybe you were expected to work during summers and holidays, and simply didn't have that chance. That's perfectly reasonable.

Actually, I was asked about my travel experiences in a recent interview. I had a FEW things to add, but nothing extraordinary like having spent a summer in Kenya or something. I simply told the guy that travel takes two things (and I said "as you know" lol), and that's time, and money. I told him that I took my last final exam of undergrad on a Friday, and started work the following Monday. My interviewer was completely satisfied with that answer.

Ever been camping? How about to a different part of the country than where you're from? Unless the specify "Europe" in the question, you can be creative. I doubt they're trying to sift out the trust fund babies from the have-nots with this question, probably just trying to see if you can appreciate different experiences. It might help you to not have a ton of "exotic" travel to talk about actually. I am sure they will get a lot of "during my fifth trip to Spain". Not so exciting after a while I'd imagine.

Take the Greyhound next weekend to Texas and tour all the little painted churches. My grandmother and I did it once by car.... Best travel experience ever baby...

I'm curious too. Which school is this?

If you haven't had any traveling experiences, you could just say so, and explain that you do hope to travel someday, where you want to go, and why.

Miami and FSU ask this!

Have you ever been someplace interesting that's nearby? A cave, deep sea fishing, a week-long canoe trip, backpacking through dense woods? Think of a unique vacation. You don't have to have traveled far.
