I just started working at a grocery store pharmacy about a week ago as an intern. Everyone I talked to said I was going to hate retail, but I actually like it. It's really fast paced, and always hectic, but I'm learning alot and its showing each day. It's alot more complicated than I thought. So far I'm only doing some tech/cashier duties, but its still teaching me alot.

My question is...has anyone else had to overcome the fear that you mislooked over something and someone somehow got the wrong perscription. I'm always focused on what I do and I double check everything, but I can't help but worry at the end of the day that somehow I missed something during the day. I know that pharmacy is the right career for me, and that I will be more confident as I learn more, but I was just wondering if anyone had a similar situation. Thanks

my advice, never overcome that fear. cuz it's the fear that will keep you from making that mistake. But don't let the fear cripple you or significantly slow you down. Check the name on the bottle before you hand it over to the person. also, check the NDC before you start filling the Rx and if it's a new Rx, then check and double check the sigs and the drug, strength, etc.
as you get more practice, you can get quicker, but always check and double check.

name, birthdate, phone number

i actually rang up the wrong Rx once...it was pretty embarassing when she said "this isn't mine". also..have them look at the Rx label to verify if it's the correct meds/phone number/whatever
