WSU ESFCOM (waitlist)
Pros
  • In state tuition
  • Relatively close to family/friends
  • New school energy - everyone is genuinely excited and passionate about this program
  • Exposure to multiple WA communities - my goal is to match in WA
Cons
  • New school - hasn't graduated anyone yet
  • Limited research opportunities - I'm currently interested in a competitive specialty, this could prove to be a problem
  • Don't like Spokane
USF SELECT
Pros
  • I like Tampa
  • I have connections in a nearby research institute - more research opportunities generally
  • Established mid-tier school
  • GREAT vibes from staff/faculty during interview
Cons
  • Expensive
  • I don't like that SELECT students move to Allentown PA for clinical years
  • Super far away from friends and family
  • Doesn't match to west coast well
  • Extra classes/projects for their leadership curriculum, although maybe the leadership curriculum is a pro? Not sure how this is viewed in residency applications.
Summary: I am currently making plans based on USF as that is my acceptance, but I think I have a good chance at getting into WSU. The cost difference is down to tuition, cost of living in both areas is similar. So it's about a $20/25k difference/year. My ultimate goal is to match into a competitive specialty in WA state. I think USF will better prep me for a competitive speciality, but WSU will better prep me for matching in WA.
