is WVU still interviewing?

looking at the posts on this thread...it seems like there are interviews on the 31st of january....
i think there'll be interviews through early feb b/c in december when i had my interview they said that the class is a little less than half full.

They are still interviewing. I saw an interview group walking through the library yesterday while I was studying with some other MS1s.

has anyone heard from WVU lately?

nothing here either

I haven't heard anything either, and I sent a letter of intent back towards the end of November. I'm so anxious...this is my favorite school and I want to go here.😕

Does any one know what time the interviews start in the morning and where we need to meet? I left my paper at home and I'm already here.

Meet at 10:45am and report to the School of Medicine Student Services Office, Room 1146, 1st floor, Health Sciences Center North. After lunch and the tour, interviews are from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

Edit: hmm, I think my post may have been a little late

no no, you weren't late... thanks alot! my interview is monday. btw, for any one who still has an interview, the marriott is the best place to say.

For a second, I couldn't remember where the Marriott was. Then I remembered that I walk by it every day to class. haha (I live near the stadium).

Good luck on your interview

are there specific times in the month when WVU sends out interview invites? Or acceptances/rejections for others?

are there specific times in the month when WVU sends out interview invites? Or acceptances/rejections for others?

As I look at the Acceptance thread...it seems most people got their acceptances from the 1st day of the month all the way to the 20th day of the month. I don't see any after the 20th of any month.

We've had couple people on this thread who had or will have their interview this week. They should know when the next meetings are.

As far as I know the committees meet tuesday then friday of each week. According to Beth Ann, she mails out acceptances or waitlists (im not sure about rejections) on mondays. Also, she said that the Deans Committee (fridays) met for the first time (in january) to discuss students this past friday (1/26). I still have yet to recieve a letter (rejection, waitlist, admitted).
So perhaps its in the mail, but I doubt it.

Does anyone know if they notify via email in addition to snail mail?

Solely snail, I believe. She said the first committee meets every tuesday to give you a 'number' and then the next committee meets every two weeks.

According to what Beth Ann said yesterday, the deans committee will be meeting tomorrow, so the next meeting after that will be on the 16th.

Also, has anyone sent in a LOI after interviewing here? If so, how did you go about it?

i dont believe i sent in a loi, but a check for $100, i think so 🙂

since the dean's committe is meeting tomorrow...i am thinking there is a possibility of hearing something next week.
I know WVU does invites for secondary and interview through snail mail...how do they inform us about acceptance...snail mail or do they call?

For those of you out-of-staters that have been accepted/waitlisted, do you have strong ties to the university or the state of West Virginia? I am asking because I will probably be applying there next year (class of 2013) and I am from Virginia ("regular" Virginia 😉), but I have some pretty strong ties to the university. My Dad got his masters in Petroleum Engineering there and my Mom started her master program there for Special Education. I was born in Pittsburgh, where my entire extended family lives. Also, when my Dad was working with Dominion, he headed up a program to get the university a multi-million dollar grant from the company - my Dad is also good friends with the brother of the Dean and the head of the engineering department. He was actually offered a position as an associate professor in the Engineering department a couple of years back.

I have visited Morgantown, and it's such a great little town! I would love to interview there, even if I didn't get accepted - it's a fun place to visit! Good luck to everyone who applied there this cycle!

Chad I was accepted and I have like no ties at all in West Virginia. I preface that with 'like' because my sister-in-law did move there about 6 months ago, so I mentioned that in the interview. But other then that I had nothing. Just rock the interview and you will be set. I am pretty sure that is why I got accepted.

Chad,

I was waitlisted, have tons of ties to WV (lots of family in WV, won't elaborate anymore for anonymity purposes) and WVU (several close family members went there) and I am from Pittsburgh. I thought I did really well on my interview (way better feeling after leaving this interview than any of my others), so I thought I had a really good shot. However, I guess there's either something I'm missing, or this whole process is just a huge crap-shoot like everyone keeps saying. I do know, though, that they told us at the interview they were trying to bring in more and more OOS students each year because they are trying to become a top 25 school. So just do your best to make your application solid, and to let them know you really want to be in WV.

To Vector2,

I submitted a LOI, but I haven't heard anything since the waitlist, so I don't know if it helped. You can PM me if you want any details on how I went about it.

they send decisions snail mail too...they send them out the monday after the dean's committee meeting

I sent an LOI last year after I was waitlisted and nothing happened.

I am kind of surprised that we have not heard of anyone getting acceptances. I imagine that they must have mailed out numerous this past monday.

It is rather odd....there haven't been any new entries on the WVU mdapplicants page either.

Yeah, WVU doesn't seem to be a popular school for mdapps or for the acceptance/interview threads in the forums. Anyway, though, I think their mail takes a while. I would expect the mailings from Monday would first appear today. When I was checking a while back, I talked with an instate person who got their letter on a Thursday. I live about 1000 miles away and got my "alternate" letter on a Friday. So I expect if anyone on SDN was among the Monday mailings, we should see it today and tomorrow.

Got a letter today dated 1/24/07. It was a "waitlist/alternate" letter. They specifically stated Committee on Admissions (but failed to mention "deans committee"). I am OOS-pittsburgh, with a 3.52 BS in architecture and 31 mcat.
were any of your letters similar?

So here's my question, as I've read on this thread that others have gotten backdated letters and reffered to them as a kindof confirmation of "passing the first step": does anyone know for sure as to wether or not this letter is in regards to one committee's descision and not the others? I realize everyone is either "waitlisted" or rejected by the adcom, and then further reviewed by the deans committee for acceptance. So why wasnt this letter dated for this past monday (the first monday following the first deans committee meeting of the year)? Should I be expecting another letter? (I wish, right?) --

As for the "updates" adressed in this letter: has anyone on the waitlist for a few months/weeks gotten any such updates?
also, does anyone have any ideas about how many make it off the waitlist?

Last inquiry: Do LOI's help? or do they just make the app look desperate? I would really love to attend WVU, and I'm sure when I settle down about getting waitlisted I'll send one in...just looking for thoughts.

at least its not a rejection.

ps. what does "bump" mean?

Bump is "bumping" the thread...basically reviving it from the bottom of the forum

So I expect if anyone on SDN was among the Monday mailings, we should see it today and tomorrow.

Definetly keeping my fingers crossed!

Did anyone who was accepted (if they even view this thread) get the waitlist letter first also? -- my concern is: once you get this letter are you just waiting for a spot to open up? or are you in the big pool every week of people evaluated for making it?

I was accepted, and I did not receive a waitlist or alternate letter first. I am instate and go to WVU. That may have something to do with it.

Well, no dice for me today. Nothing from WVU. I'm starting to give up hope. It's been 2 months since my waitlist letter and subsequent LOI...🙁

I just got the waitlist letter from WVU today. I interviewed on January 22nd. Im OOS with a 3.7 GPA and 33 MCAT. I did apply pretty late.

A good friend of mine was placed on the wait list a few weeks after her interview in November. She got her WVU letter of acceptance over Christmas break. I doubt that really helps any of you but it's point of reference regarding the amount things take (at least in her case). Also it shows that you can make the jump from wait-->accepted.

Hey lennytheduck,

Can you maybe approximate your friend's stats? I think I was in the same batch as her for the waitlist letter and I really don't get why I haven't been accepted yet. Thanks for the info.

My stats are almost exactly yours and I got the OOS waitlist today. I thought my interview went pefectly, however, I remember the admissions director saying that the committee was taking it very slow, i.e. only accepting 1-2 people per meeting. That might be why we are seeing such a delay in acceptances. BTW, the class was near 3/4 full before the last meeting.

Shes OOS with like a 3.95 GPA and a 30 MCAT.

The admissions director, herself.

grrrrr! 😡 😡 😡 I was hoping you heard it from someone who had nothing to do with the admissions. 🙁 🙁 🙁

kyley

did your waitlist letter speicifically have anything to do you with you being OOS? or are you just calling it the "oos waitlist" because of your being out of state?

just 'cause im OOS.

I called Beth Ann and yesterday and found out that the dean's committee has reviewed my file and my file was still on the waiting list....so that sucks for me!

I received a letter yesterday from the Admission Committee telling me I was waitlisted. Will I get another letter from the Dean's Committee telling me I will remain on the waitlist or will the next time I hear be if I am rejected/accepted. I'm a little confused on how these 2 committees work

no you won't receive a letter from dean's committee if they leave you on the waitlist.....next time you would get anything would be if you get rejected/accepted.

when did you get the waitlist letter? when was your interview?
