Has anyone had their wyzant tutoring account inactivated for ....

"In an effort to make sure WyzAnt is offering the best tutor matching service to students, WyzAnt regularly reviews the success of matches made through the website. In reviewing your account, we have determined that the relationship between you and students using the website has not been effective.
As stated in the Independent Contractor Agreement, both parties have the right to terminate the relationship at any point. Based on the situation noted above, WyzAnt has deactivated your account.
We are sorry that your listing on the website did not perform better but we wish you the best in your future endeavors.
Regards,
The WyzAnt Team"

This is the email I got, verbatim from them, and I'm stunned. I'm not sure about what they are referring to by "my listing didn't perform better." I always responded prompted to student inquiries, I responded to wyzant's notication of potential clients. I had my first client today (physics) and she thoroughly enjoyed it and began to understand some concepts for the first time. She even scheduled regular weekly appts bcos she got so much from our first session...bla bla. After this session, I tried to login to my wyzant account enter the session hours and I couldn't, later I saw the email (see above) they sent to my hotmail account. I don't even know how I'll get paid, since I'm unable to report the hours I tutored 2day.

Anyway, I've sent them an email asking for clarification but they are closed till Monday and honestly, this is buggin me too much to wait, hence this post. So has anyone had a similar experience? I really enjoyed this tutoring opportunity (pay/flexibility) and it'll suck for it to end just days after it began.

Any insights, advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

Same thing happened to me. I figured they found out I was going under the table with my main client, haha. I suspect they thought the same of you based on having a number of contacts and yet few actual tutoring sessions? It's hard to say really. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Get a hold of them next week and make your case - I think based on your current experience they might reverse it. If not you can at least start charging your physics client less money (or the same) and get to keep more of it. I used to charge 25 to this guy (minimum on the site), but now I just charge him 20 an hour directly. Win/win. And then through her maybe you can find some other contacts, or use your school, or craigslist, etc. I think the amount of money WyzAnt takes is really unreasonable anyway. There are other options.

Thanks for the info..

The thing is, I didn't even get a chance to go under the table..:laugh:, I literally had my very first session and they couldn't even wait for me to enter my hours b4 inactivating my account. Worst case scenario (if they tell me, YOU'RE FIRED), I'll advertise through flyers, craiglist just like you suggested. I like the convenience of getting leads from them, but it won't be the end of the world if they don't reverse their action.

Yes, they do keep a huge chunk of ur pay 40%, I guess we're are the lionesses getting the kill and they are the big fat lion chilling under a tree waiting to take a good portion of the kill..😡😡

It would be nice if at least they warned you first, bcos then I would know that I was doing something they don't like. Right now I'm just clueless about what I did or did not do...

I am sure there are much better ways to earn money via tutoring than donating half your pay to such a dumb system.

Why is it that the first thing that comes up in Google search when I type "wayzant" is Wyzant Tutoring Scam?"

Doesn't mean it's a scam, because any link I click on in the first page doesn't really confirm anything, but... it's something to think about.

Yes so I got a response from Wyzant...

"Your account has been deactivated based upon the ratio of contacts made
and phone numbers exchanged with students relative to the number of
lessons you have provided...."
I didn't even know such a metric existed!! Besides they keep pelting you with information about potential jobs, so I kept responding to them

So Bannue u're right, there has to be a better way of doing this than paying 40% of ur earnings to Wyzant!! Maybe start a website called Byzant...:meanie::meanie:
