yale decision date?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
This is from the acceptance email:

"Your official acceptance letter, signed by Dean of Admissions Laura Ment, was mailed earlier this afternoon from New Haven. We are sending this e-mail now to make sure you receive this wonderful news right away."

Also, I checked past threads on the matter and it seems like they only send both email and snail mail for those initially accepted. But who knows, today was Fri (end of the week for the admissions office). They may send another acceptance email batch on Monday? If not, I hope you're on the high priority waitlist!

Hope so, but there were an awful lot of acceptances given out today judging by the people on this thread...

i had 2 wisdom teeth pulled and a root canal this week, and somehow the thought of a yale rejection coming my way hurts way more than all three. here's to waiting anxiously for the mailman...

I really doubt that they would split up something as important as Admission Decisions. I think that they would have prepared enough to be able to send them out as one batch (after all, someone said that they weren't even personalized).

I'm still a little annoyed that the lady in admissions lied to me. Bah.

Just so people know: got my wait list letter today. So...they're out and about.

Congrats to everyone who got in! And good luck to the rest of us!

Not to be horribly insensitive or prying, but does your say anything about these tiers that people keep mentioning? Just preparing myself for my own letter. 🙂

Thanks for letting us know! I hope I get one too!!!! Or perhaps an email!!!!!! 😀 Good luck to all of us!

Accepted! For those waitlisted, there is a 99% chance I will withdraw this week since I got into UCLA recently, so do not despair, you have a decent chance.

whats my status anxiety overload... this is just too much!!

i'm pretty sure i'll be adding yale to my long list of post-interview rejections...i must really make a bad impression!

i'd definitely choose columbia over yale, so i guess i should have withdrawn earlier anyway...i won't be taking up a spot on yale's waitlist if that's where the put me. good luck to everyone else!

I second that! I hope everything will clear up by Monday for better or worse once some more info is released.

Ditto ... 100% chance I will be withdrawing once I receive the snail mail letter.

I was surfing the yale med school website last night and came across a link to a listing of all the students individually by name in each of the classes, notably where they did their undegraduate degree. It is kind of telling where their students come from - the vast majority are Ivy league grads (tons from Yale and Harvard), or other highly ranked national research unis (MIT, Chicago, Stanford, etc) - very few "normal" colleges listed - very few state universities - they are the rare exceptions. Not exactly a "diverse" undergrad institution representation...

http://www.yale.edu/bulletin/html/med/statistics.html

Not sure if this information comforts anybody who just got rejected or waitlisted, but it seems to me that one's already tiny chances of getting into Yale Med is further reduced by their undergrad institution...although I am sure they would vehemently deny it is a factor...

AlaskaGrown, which are your top choice schools? You have a fantastic list to choose from!

AlaskaGrown.... I met you at an interview! I'm so jealous of your admissions record!

Hi, I'm a second year at Yale. I thought I'd put my two cents in. In order to know how much going to a certain undergrad helps you'd have to also look at how many people from those schools applied. I can tell you that in my class we have about 16 people from Yale undergrad, but Silverman told me that over 200 Yale undergrads applied. So schools like Harvard and Yale have a lot of people applying to med school, and a lot of them apply to Yale. So a lot of very qualified people from certain schools apply, which is naturally going to lead to a lot people getting in. I don't think that there is bias against state schools, most people in my class are not from the Ivy League.
Congrats to those who got in, and good luck to those on the waitlist. I can tell you that they don't let people know about the tiers until they hear back from everyone and know how many people are holding spots, or dropping off the waitlist etc. If you search for last year's thread on the Yale waitlist there is a lot of info about waitlist movement and tiers. PM me with questions.

Ahh, the sweet taste of complete rejection. Good luck to the rest of you!

Here's hoping I get accepted to UCLA ~~ shouldn't be too long before I know:luck:

The woman I spoke with in admissions today said that there are more decisions being sent out on Thursday. (Though so far they've given inaccurate/inconsistant updates on the process... this might not be reliable.) She wouldn't say whether there were acceptances included in that batch or not. Seems like there have been a mix of wait lists, acceptances, and rejections so far though, so maybe Thursday promises the same. 😕 Yikes. Good luck to you all!

snail mail rejection in NorCal!!!!! yay. post-marked March 14. gluck to the rest of you.👍

does anyone know how many ppl get rejected and waitlisted post-interview?

snail mail rejected here..postmarked march 14.

Snail-mail waitlist in Iowa. No information about rankings. Form to send in to say if you want to stay on the list. It says waitlist decisions will be given out in May and June. I'm withdrawing anyway. New Haven - YUCK! Considering I have an offer from UCLA, I wasn't broken up about today's news.

I got 2 rejection envelopes from yale. One of these letters was meant for a mysterious applicant from florida with the same last name... Resending the letter. GG USPS.

It's funny you think so, considering you actually applied.

For those of you who got accepted to yale (and you guys who are on the waitlist and would like to get in), will you be attending or are you still undecided? What do you like/dislike about yale and what do you think will be the ultimate determining factor of whether you go or not?

I ask because I was lucky enough to be accepted last Friday and am trying to decide between yale and a coupe other schools and so wanted to hear a bit from the other current applicants about their thoughts on yale (and what schools they are choosing yale over or over yale and why)... also, any current yale med students, feel free to chime in as well!

I am a big fan of the curriculum, dual-degree opportunities (looking at md/mba), and of course its name/reputation and excellent match list! The other schools I am looking at may not have quite the same name/reputation as yale, but everything else is similar... only major differences are curriculum and location (of which, each has advantages/disadvantages)...

Anways, if have a minute and would like to share your thoughts on yale, pelase do! For those of you still waiting to hear back and those who are on the waitlist, good luck! :luck:

I'm in the same position as you 🙂. Good luck!

That was - without doubt - my most painful rejection letter yet.
I had to take a 5 hour evening nap right after to get over that news ~~

Sleep is the solution!!

Not even a waitlist position. 🙁 I'm soooo sad.

Ah well, on to thinking about what I'm going to do with my year off. AND on applying again this summer. whyyyyyy????

CONGRATS btw to everyone accepted! Hope to join you all next year! 🙂

I don't understand why they can't get their stories straight. I have the utmost respect for schools who will either tell you honest answers (even if they're bad news) or will just decline to tell you things. I really despise it when schools tell us inaccurate information. Throw us a bone here; is honesty so hard to come by? Nobody is forcing you to answer - just stop lying!

plain old rejection (no waitlist)

🙁

OOF! This was a bad one. Dad called me up to say "A letter from Yale arrived. I can't understand what it says, but I think you didn't get in." Way harsh to hear it from the 'rents! Oh well, saves me the trouble of telling them.

Does anyone know how many people Yale interviewed (and/or how many they accept)?

This year they interviewed about 800 people. Don't know number of acceptances, but last year initially accepted somewhere around 160.

That doesn't include the number of people offered acceptance off the wait-list.

First Post! Accepted to Yale! I will definitely be going there unless I get into Penn, in which case I would have to think really hard about which school to attend as I loved both.

Good luck to all those who have been waitlisted! I wish you all the best.

any waitlisters get put in the "high priority" group? i know thats something yale's done in the past but no one has seemed to post getting it yet...

waitlisted, but no mention of any sort of group.

Just got my post-secondary rejection letter yesterday. Interesting that it was postmarked 3/14, but dated 3/20 on the letter.

I thought that was pretty rich as well

Is there anybody who interviewed and is still waiting to hear back from Yale? I didn’t receive the acceptance email on Friday, nor did I get anything in the mail (I am in Arizona).

I haven't heard yet either. And I'm in NJ, not particularly far from New Haven (only about 90 miles). Ahhh, this sucks. I want into Yale so badly.

The rejection letter is very nice though. I mean watermarked stationary with the school seal with "Light and Truth" is very classy. Also, the signature almost looks as if it's hand signed. I almost want to send an e-mail telling them how nice their rejection was, but I don't know how to do so without it sounding sarcastic.

did you receive the acceptance also by e-mail? if so, when? thanks.

No acceptance email, no letters in the mail. They're keeping me in limbo on purpose, damn it!

So, are more acceptances coming out on Thursday, or aren't they? I just want a straight answer.
