Yale's Timeline

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So I just had another thought. Maybe when they said they weren't sending out decisions by email, that didn't meant that Richard Silverman won't send out a congratulatory email to all of the acceptees. Wow, too many double negatives in that sentence....

Hmmm what do you all think?

You might not be in the States?

If the only school I get into is Sackler (Tel Aviv New York State collaboration) I may decide to stay... Sigh. I'm not sure what's right for me, either, which makes it harder. That is, I know a school in the states would be right for me, but if that's not an option, the question becoems whether I'd prefer to start in Israel or to return to the states and try again.

Every year for the past umpteen years theve sent out an email. I am 99% positive that accepted applicants will get an email sometime in the near (very near wink wink) future although I couldn't bet my life on it. So excited to meet all of you, you have no idea how weird it is to be typing this when I was being the neurotic crazy pre-med SDN-posting guy last year. GOODLUCK TO ALL!!

"wink wink"? Very near being by Friday or say, tomorrow?

Waaaahhhh. Thanks for the encouragement...

 You know, when the letters finally do come, it's going to be so anti-climactic. We're already going to be totally emotionally spent. 😉

Ughhhh! I almost had a heart attack, and it was all for nothing. I just got an e-mail with the subject line "Congratulations!" and it begain with the line, "Dear 2010MD, Congratulations on your acceptance to..."

...but it was from a school I'd already heard from, last week! I guess that's what I get for checking my e-mail so obsessively. Good luck everybody.

alright... I'm considering just staying the hell away from this thread. I'm just going to drive myself nuts then get rejected. Wah. what do you guys think? Is this sort of thing good or bad for one's mental health? On one hand, it's obsessing, and on the other, it's releasing the tension somewhere that's not my poor boyfriend, who's heard it all a million times. Hmm. Thoughts?

I will obsess whether I'm here or not here. At least here, I get to obsess with people who'll understand.

instead of keeping the SDN window open ALL day, i just allow myself to get on every once in a while to see if there's any news...what's the point in stopping the neuroses right now? only a few days left - we can't go too crazy waiting, right? RIGHT?!?! :scared: ahaha

dopa, i reeeeally hope you get in! i think you've got the most bulldog love of all of us...yale is creeping up the ladder from a two- to three-way tie (depending on what day of the week you ask me) to being my sole #1 choice.

:luck: :luck: :luck: !!!

agreed. my family and ex-husband need to be spared... it's either SDN or valium for the rest of the week...

Sounds like you picked the worse of the two... :meanie:

Well, even though I occasionally do have these crazy day-dreams about someone at Yale mistakenly sending me an acceptance letter despite the fact that I never interviewed there (according to my day-dream I'd just play dumb and accept the offer!), I know it's not going to happen this year. But I just checked and my info IS in the Yale financial aid web site.

Sorry to disappoint you all...

Good luck everyone!

WTF Yale send us your decisions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If it takes this long to accept people, how long will it take them to let folks in off the waitlist?????

I'm a student at Yale. To answer this question, some people in my class heard very quickly (one as early as the week after first round decisions). They take a long time to make their decisions, but after that they're pretty good on turn around for waitlist decisions. That being said, I also have a friend who got in off the waitlist 2 days before orientation...

Good luck everyone...and btw...make sure to check your emails tomorrow. Silverman and Jamieson both claimed that tomorrow is "the big day"

Good luck!

Oh my God, this is going to throw me over the edge tomorrow. I may just need some drugs to get me through (anyone have extra valium lying around). My heart is already beating faster. I seriously hope each and every damn person who interviewed at Yale on SDN gets in so we can all celebrate together. I CAN'T WAIT ANY LONGER, just give me the rejection alreadyyyyyyyy.

Ok, done venting for this (second).

I have to confess that I feel surprisingly calm about it....this is my last and most anticipated decision, whatever decision is already made and done, and now it's just up to my cable service and the good ol' USPS. 😛

Since someone has already said it. Tommorow seems to be the big day, goodluck with the emails.

oh dear, i'll be in class all morning. good thing it's the first class of the quarter, we'll probably be done early so i can go check my email every 5 minutes.

So how sure are we that the emails are coming tomorrow?

Ya, someone did say it already. You should be more on top of this stuff...what do you think you're kinda a big deal or something???

All the first years are excited about seeing you guys! I'm rooting for everyone.

Since there are some first years on this thread, how do you feel about the perception that Yale might not offer the best clinical training?

Ahhhhhh! What time do you guys think they'll be sent? Fingers crossed for EVERYBODY...

Is anyone on this board going to the Unite for Sight International Conference this weekend at Yale? I think I'm going (I'm not interested in eye care, but most of it appears to be focused on global health, healthcare inequalities, etc.):

Sorry, I just blacked out. Where am I? Did I get in to Yale? Did we just hook up? Has anyone seen my car?

Since I am a first year I cannot comment fully on the third and fourth years but I will give you what I know. When I was selecting the medical school I was going to go to, I heard the same rumor that Yale isn't a great clinical training school. What I hear from the 3rd and 4th years here (when they do away rotations) is that they are confident at other places and are not lacking. They feel they are equivilant if not better than the 3rd and 4th years at other institutions. In addition, the match lists at Yale speak for themselves. Residency director's place a high mark on a Yale education and I would assume that has to include a high satisfaction with our clinical training. Of course I have a huge bias since I go here but I do believe that I will get a top of the line clinical education in the 3rd and 4th years (and actually even some now) compared to any of the other top schools. If this is something that you are truly concerned about you can always ask for 3rd and 4th year's emails at 2nd look, or talk to some of them who come and see what they say directly.

mmmmm must .... sign... out.... too much time.... on.... SDN.... looking at Yale......grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. good night folks and good luck :luck: !

I hope SDN represents in Yale class of 2010!

Good luck to you too....and to everyone else. It's so nice to know I'm not going through this alone. I don't know how I'd deal with this without SDN. :luck:

Heh... I feel awful. Everyone's rooting for me, and I'm so going to get tanked.

Anyway, I'll let you guys know regardless, but no sympathetic posts. If I don't get in, I promise not to be bummed for more than a day. I PROMISE (myself.)

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

:luck:

good luck you guys. also, if you get in, be sure to meet msafain at 2nd look weekend. He is the coolest guy in school. 😉

Anyone get an email yet?

Anyone just staring at their gmail notifier, unable to do anything else, while hoping that it will light up?

where do you get a gmail notifier? i waste a lot of time checking my mail while nothing is in there... Can't one of the first years go find out when the emails are going out?

No email here; I've got to go to class and won't be able to check for another 6 hours :scared:

For all of those who would be furiously checking their email today but can't like me, some email accounts let you add filters so that you can get alerts about specific email addresses sent to your cell phone. For yahoo mail just go to options, then filters, then add @yale.edu and it will send a text message to your phone if you get an email from Yale. Hope this helps! :luck: to everyone today!

Thanks, that would help but I use my university email; I get too much official email through it not too...so I guess I'll just have to make it through the day w/o knowing. Good luck everyone.

Can I make a request? Can the first person to get THE EMAIL start a new Yale acceptances thread rather than posting to this one? That way we wont have heart attacks every time this thread is bumped to the top, but we can still talk about Yale here...

Excellent idea.

Who wants to call and confirm that emails are being sent today? That would be cool...

Email's went out at 12:00 pm. Hope to see all of you at 2nd Look Weekend!!
