whats weird is that lawyers, Pharmacist, and Architects are also all in the negative in regards to inflation adjusted salary changes.
Wonder how physicians stack up.

Inflation affects everyone....not just the dentists. Housing can no longer be affordable for most today new grad doctors, dentists, engineers, lawyer etc ....unless they have a starting salary of at least $300k/yr. And even with such great income, it will still take one at least 4-5 years to save enough for a down payment for a house, which is at least $1M here in So Cal.

There is no such thing as a dream job. Most people hate their own job and think that other people around them have better jobs than theirs….aka “the grass is greener syndrome”. Most people work because they fear hunger, homelessness and poverty. They do things that they hate in order to survive…they have to make money so they can pay for the things that they love like expensive vacation trips, eating out with friends, nice car, nice house, a boat, a RV etc.

At least being a dentist, you will never be unemployed. This guy (on the video below......set the speed to 1.5x because he talked very slowly) has just lost his $230k job….a job that he really hated. And now he has to start his life over again at 35 yo with no concrete plan....no job plan. Fortunately, he is single and has no kid to support. I’d have been scared to death if this happened to me 10-15 years ago….when my 2 kids were still very young and relied on me for financial support….and I had student loans, home loan, business loans etc to pay back.

And the link below is a dentaltown thread that talks about a neurosurgeon, a MIT graduate, who decided to quit his job….and just spend time in the moutain doing nothing. Again, it’s easy for him to just quit working because he doesn’t have any kids to support….. he has a dog. Attending MIT wasn’t cheap. I wonder if he still has student loan to pay back or not.....or did he sigs up for IBR repayment plan and then hopes that the government will forgive his loans 20 yrs later?........or his parents paid for his education? His wife fully supports his decision to have such carefree lifestyle (with no future plan) for right now. But I am not sure if she will continue to do so when they both run out of money.

Here is another story of another guy who worked in Tech as a product manager. He got laid off 10 months ago (at the time of making the video). He has submitted 1500+ applications and nobody wanted to to hire him. And from his most recent video, which was posted about 4 days ago......which was exactly 1 year from the day that he got laid off, he was still unemployed. He's 35yo....single....no girlfriend. He's living at his parents' house to save money. I am glad that I am a dentist.
