Yet Another Car Thread

If you don't mind the potential for questionable reliablity, the Range Rovers are difficult to beat, much in-line with the Land Cruiser in terms of off-road capabilities. The RR Sport is marginally smaller than the proper RR, but look at the interior dimension specs. There is virtually no difference at all as the rear passenger space is comparable. I recently traded my RR Sport and thought it was a great SUV, even if a gas pig. My wife drives a Land Rover LR4 and absolutely loves it. 3 rows, good storage space (especially with overhead rack attached), a monster off-road, gas mileage rated at 12/17 and she averages around 15.5 MPG in mixed driving (with a lead foot). I have taken both her and my RR Sport on Land Rover off-road courses and they are both beasts and both have all of the traction control settings, air suspension, etc., that the big RR has. A new, fully-loaded LR4 HSE LUX can be had for about $62k with rear DVDs, etc. A good demo unit can be had for the low $50s.

Happy shopping!

What did you trade for? Also curious on people's opinion of leasing vs buying. Sorry to hijack the thread.

I admit to being a bit of a car nut and have been getting Car & Driver since 1983 🙂 I loved my RR Sport, but was having a serious need for speed, coupled with a little more backseat room. Since my wife has the LR4, I decided I didn't need the SUV too. That was my justification for a Jaguar XJL Supercharged. I have both bought and leased over the past 15 years. This latest is a lease, in hopes that I will actually keep it longer than 18 months. Still, as difficult as it was for me to say no to a 470 HP engine, 0-60 in 4.4 sec...I am sure there will be something else that catches my fancy over the next few years.

For luxury vehicles it's typically best to buy used and lease new. They depreciate rather quickly, so you can save a lot buying one a couple years used if you plan to run it to the ground. If you like getting new vehicles (one every less than 4 years) it almost always makes more to lease new.

Maybe you should wait until January to try this one out.
