What are your thoughts about my chances getting into DMU, KCOM, CCOM, or KCUMB (in that order)? I really love DMU's campus and I haven't heard anyone that's disliked their time there. With that said, the other schools are great also. Here's the stats:

Overall GPA - 3.83
Science GPA - 3.71
1st MCAT - 21P (VR 6; PS 8; BS 7) no study course/after a semester abroad
2nd MCAT - 26P (VR 8; PS 8; BS 10) KAPLAN
Graduated 2005 magna cum laude with Bio degree, Chem minor
E.C.'s - honor societies, Dean's list all 4 years, research grant winner, student government, work in a nursing home, personal aide for terminally ill 15-year-old, currently working at a Free Health Clinic under a D.O., volunteering at a homeless shelter til next June

Assuming good letters of Rec, what do you think? Also, I'm curious if anyone has taken the MCAT more than once and if so, did you take a KAPLAN or other study course and did this help?

Thanks, good luck to everyone!

P.S. Anyone else think DMU's new student center is the $h!t? 😱

You've got a great shot at all those schools assuming your paperwork is handled appropriately.

I agree. Don't screw up the interview and I have no doubt you'll get good news.

You'll be fine. just be well prepared for the interviews.

Out of curiosity, why DMU over CCOM?
I haven't visited either one, but I would think Chicago suburb would beat no-where Iowa hands down.
just curious.

Well, price is one. According to medschoolstats.com, DMU is $29k and CCOM is $35k (for non-resident of IL). Also, DMU is closer to home than CCOM is. DMU just completed a $30,000,000 student center within the last year. It is quite a site, and it's the only place I've ever seen plush desk chairs for seating in an amazing lecture hall. Cost of living in Iowa is quite a bit lower than in the Chicago area. And built-in to the tuition at DMU is a choice of a laptop or a desktop computer, and at some point (3rd year maybe?) they provide you with a PDA for rotations. This is also built into tuition.

Des Moines is not at all like I thought Iowa would be. I had the same ideas about a flat cornland until I went for a campus visit. The entire Des Moine metro is about half a million people, so it's definitely not small.

Out of curiosity on your part where are you applying/going to school?

i grew up in des moines, iowa and am thinking of applying to DMU (it is about 5 miles from my house so that would make things easy for the family). Des Moines is not what people expect. It is no chicago or new york, but it is no boondock farm either.
