Hello all,

CA-3 here. Wow, has this forum changed. I used to lurk on this forum back when I was an PGY-1 to search for some signs of life at the end of that dark sewer called internship. Now coming back to this forum…Holy Shiite has this forum improved!!! You guys make me proud to be a part of this community.

This forum is chocked full of fantastic advice about critical thinking in our field, procedures, and life out in the real world. On top of that, there are some crazy Mutherfu kk’n personalities on this site. Characters like jet, mil, noy, cop, plank, vent, etc. Makes me wish I checked back on this site sooner then I have.

As for me, I’m a CA-3 at a so called “top program” (I personally think you can get great training at 95+ percent of certified programs) just here to introduce myself. I’m ready to teach the guys more junior than me what I know and am here to open my ears to all you guys ahead of me to learn everything I can. This forum rocks!!

I’m more than happy to lend my humble opinion to any residency/internship issues you guys might have. I echo Arch’s comments on the “bow your head” thread. I can’t tell you how important it is to pick your battles. Cop also has some fantastic advice about flying under the radar and just doing what you gotta do to keep your attendings happy. I too have experienced the harsh consequences from deviating from their maniacal idiosyncracies. As I start my job search this month, Mil & Jet, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your posts on economic reality and private practice management. My old man’s in private practice on the other side of the drapes and the stuff you tell us about managing a practice and dealing with surgery pr icks is spot on.

Anyways, thought I’d introduce myself and offer what little I know to the collective.

P.S. Moderators, please keep this forum the way it is. I love that we share our lives outside of medicine here. I think it’s hilarious that we all share a love for firearms, hot women, and fast cars. As for me, I’m also a self proclaimed glock, SIG, AR15, Remington 700, BMW man (happen to own many fine examples of the aforementioned articles, but still working on the BMW part though 😉 )

Welcome back, Dude.

Enjoy the prose here.

And please jump in!

We are here for you and your resident colleagues....med students too.....AND ITS ALOT MORE FUN/INTELLECTUALLY PROFITABLE if med students/residents jump in and contribute.

Lee, the founder and HMFIC of SDN, recently emailed me about how we can get more med students/residents to feel comfortable here.....apparently some of you (albeit a huge minority) are kinda intimidated and therefore lurk instead of post.

I'm comfortable with our forum because I think it replicates REAL LIFE.

Real life in physician training isnt all hugs and roses!

Students/residents are sometimes intimidated by attendings.

Attendings are sometimes intimidated by students/residents.

Theres alotta love for you dudes in training here at SDN anesthesia.

And we hope you learn from our posts.

Yeah, theres some intimidating dudes here too....said dudes who've forgotten more anesthesia in the last week than you and I together will learn in the next ten years....

All kidding aside, its like real life, huh? Some of your best teachers made you s hit your pants a time or two...

Opinions/anesthesia techniques/business/hobbies/families/wives/husbands/girlfriends/boyfriends/cars/trucks/vacations/wine/religion are all part of my life/your life. So we discuss them here.

Everything.

REALITY ANESTHESIA. hmmmmmm wonder if FOX would consider a pilot show....

Welcome, MAC6.

Looking forward to your posts.

I am totally up for your pilot show at 10 pm on FOX. Who wants to watch Greta Van Sustren any way. Atleast i would learn something about airplanes.😀

Just for the record, I hope that people understand that this is a "do as I say, not as I do" type of thing. I've spent my fair share of time in the PD's office. I was once told that I have "too much personality" for anesthesiology.

Don't let the bastards get you down. 😀

Oh boy, I could be in big trouble. During my first year, my advisor and I used to butt heads quite a bit. After one of these arguments that ended with me meeting with the student dean, my advisor told me that if I weren't such a good student, I'd be impossible for anyone to deal with. 😳 The two of us finally had a huge, all-out, lay it on the table kind of argument, and since then we have gotten along very well. 🙂

Yeah Mil, I'm pretty much exclusively looking at the south. I've seen enough snow during residency to last a lifetime. I'm a southern boy at heart and I'm ready to go home.

I miss crawfish boils, gumbeaux, tex mex, greens, corn bread, REAL Barbecue. Sorry, guys, but you yankees can't cook worth a dam n!! I mean there's no reason why food should be some dead-gum bland!! For the love of god - TURN IT UP A NOTCH!!! The thought of having a chopped beef sandwich with fries and onions right about now would be about heaven (it's 2 am and I have the munchies).

Ahhh, the South. It's crazy to think I'll finally be home sometime next year. And fellas, what's probably even better than the food and weather...

THE WOMEN. Three words: LORD HAVE MERCY!!! You want to talk about unbelievable. They know how to treat their men and are damn fine to boot. Don't believe me? Just check out college game day when they're out visiting an SEC or ACC campus. My My My. The big 10 or even the PAC 10 can't hold a candle!! Jet and Mil, I'm sure, will be happy to substantiate these claims as they probably are being taken care of by fantastic southern belles themselves.

Ahhh, just another home sick southern boy, ready to go home. 😀

Welcome MacSix! Glad you'll become more active. I'm sure you can add a lot to the forum. I agree, it's a great place.

Damn, are you spying on me????

I just went to a fancy fund raiser last night where I ate crawfish , gumbeaux, tex mex, greens, corn bread, and REAL Barbecue....plus some other stuff!!!

Read through some of my posts. If you think you can tolerate a bunch of guys like me, send me a PM....we may have a position for you around here.

Cop, I have been told the same thing many times too! I have found though that the new generation of surgeons enjoy a little personality from the other side at the right time during the case.

Yes, we sure do all love hot women.

what's wrong with women loving hot women

I've always found this picture deeply disturbing on so many different levels. This picture is not sexy; it's just plain gross. Two disgusting women trying to be "controversial" and create a gimmick. Nothing more. This is the quintessential example of white trash at its finest.

I like to point out that she was perfectly nice and decent in Louisiana and Florida but send the girl to LA and suddenly she's... whatever she is now.

We should have a sticky for introductions, but I figured I could hijack this thread to the same effect.

I have been lurking long enough to miss VenT, and have decided to come out of hiding and see if I can contribute.

I am currently a CA-3 at University of WA who was addicted to way too many forums during med school and stopped posting when I started internship. Man how I miss all the free time I had in med school. Now I am selecting a couple of forums to acquaint myself with.

I am from Alaska and I drive a '95 Toyota Pickup and a '07 VW GTI. Sometime next year I am planning on breaking down the Yota and making a MINI MONSTA that Jet would be proud of. I also hope to mod the GTI with a Reiger rear end and GHL Exhaust. It sure will be nice to be making a little more dinero so I can stop dreaming and start doing.

I drink Cuervo Repasado and Alaska Amber and I regret that I have but one liver to give for this cause.

I have a rather large assortment of firearms but my current weapon of choice is my Sportsman's Warehouse Bow (made by Bowtech). Perhaps we need a "any of you guys own a bow" thread.

For now I will continue to bow the head and pick my battles. In nine short months I will start building the war chest. Thanks for all the advice, laughs, and education over the last couple of years. Here's hoping I can give a little back.

Edited to add the most important part.

Beer so good that if you open a bottle and put it on top of your head you will go blind from your tongue beating your eyes out trying to get to it.

If you can find it on tap and place a glass on top of your head... well let's just say it ain't pretty.

I have a friend in Anchorage who was born a Tennessee Vol, reared a Tennessee Vol, and will be a Tennessee Vol till he dies. During his career teaching at U Tennessee he took a trip to the real great white north and had his first taste of the Alaskan Elixir. It was so good that he retired to Alaska just so that he could drink this beer and be happy.

From their Website >>>

It is an alt style beer with a lingering malt flavor and just a hint of hops. It was voted "Best Beer in the Nation" at the 1988 Great American Beer Festival.

Original Gravity: 1.054, ABV 5.3%, Bitterness: 18 IBU, Color 22 SRM
