I applied to Michigan State as an out-of-stater. Last time I heard from this school was back in July when I was asked to submit $60 PRE-SECONDARY 😱 !!! (seriously, what school ask for $$$ before secondary???????) I have not heard from MichState since. I checked the status page and my AAMC ID is not even valid.

Any out-of-stater heard from MichState? I feel like I got robbed 🙁

MSU only takes ~20% OOS tops. Actually, I kinda think the whole fee PRE-secondary is kinda cool in a weird way, because it means that they have no financial incentive to send you a secondary, so if you get one it actually means something. Anyway, I'm OOS, and interviewed a few days back. They said they are very, very unlikely to accept an OOS'er unless their app is not only solid, but is very in tune w/ their mission etc. So at least you didn't pay $500 to fly all the way to Michigan to hear them tell you that you basically have to be sitting with the gods to get in.

After I submitted the pre-sec fee it took quite a little while before they invited me to submit a secondary. So it might be normal to not hear from them for awhile (though July is a REALLY long time.) However, my status page never went down or anything, so I don't know what that means. It never hurts to call and ask them it is just a tech. difficulty. Heck, you payed them 60 bucks, the least they can do is let you know whether your app is still being considered.

I got put on hold like two days after I submitted the fee. I should have looked at the out-of-state acceptance numbers BEFORE applying. 😉

I'm in state with a 30 MCAT and a 3.90 GPA and I've been on hold for a secondary for 4 weeks after paying the fee.

Still waiting. Starting to worry.

Here's what they sent me via e-mail on 31 Aug:

"the Review Committee has decided to place your application on hold for future review."

I also sent them the money and that's all I've heard, which was back in August. No interview invite, no rejection. Hmph. Don't worry, sdnstud and UCLAstudent, I'm in the same boat.

So- I'm August MCATer, haven't heard back about a secondary from Mich State- should I be worried, or (like has been posted above) are they just REALLY slow? Yes, I'm out of state, but I haven't even heard back anything about a secondary!

🙁 bump again- any answers floating around out there?

they don't screen before they ask for $, so I wouldn't be too worried liz...but call if you are.

I don't know what to say re not getting a secondary after paying fee in july. I don't think it means anything that the status page doesn't work because I don't think mine worked either, UNTIL I got the secondary. I'd probably call if you're still interested though and see what's up. particularly if other people have gotten notice that they are on hold, and you haven't.

How do you chech the status for MSU...all I have done so far is submit my fee 4 weeks ago

So WOW.

In an email response to my query regarding a secondary:

"Yes, your file was complete in August. The Committee on Admissions will
make a secondary application decision within the next four to six weeks and
you will be contaced by email or U.S. mail.

MSU College of Human Medicine."

This is regarding the secondary app!!!!!
