1. When people think it is shameful to want to make money in medicine (where as in other field money making is glorified).

2. When premed say "I dont care about money", especially if they really mean it.

did you know ayn rand believed in numerology?

Damnit, Lukkie, you're too fast.... thats why you're the trole of '14....

Know what really grinds me gears? Lack of compassion and dumb threads.

:corny:

the word actually. It is most often used when one person is condescendingly correcting another person.

sorry if I ever use it, mostly because I hate it and then I'll have to hate myself. 😳

Gears? What do you think I am a car or something?

Vroooom.

And, this is why Lukkie hates pre-meds!

OP, Why does it matter to you what motivates a person?

Maybe altruism exists upon some pre-meds. There are genuine people out there that aren't just money hungry.

Let the carrot be what it is. Whether it be money/pride/altruism whatever, medicine is a career choice and people tend to have different goals than you do.

This has never been said before right? Yeah, I'm like 90% sure I'm the first person in the history of pre-meds to say this,

"If you just want to get rich, there are plenty of other career choices that offer easier and quicker pathways to wealth."

actors, pro athletes, and the tooth fairy come to mind.

True that!

you couldn't just say they're girls? does it make it funnier or make your argument stronger by adding the descriptor black?

So why expend the effort to describe the color of their skin at all?

Doesn't mean you have to perpetuate the stereotype 👎 ...I would have got the idea with just "girls"

-when people use the dashboard of their car as a general storage area for mail, books, garbage, etc.

-rappers that make ******ed nonsensical songs that may or may not come with a homemade "dance". WTF is a stanky leg? is it contagious?

-when my neighbors let their mangy *** dog leave his weapons grade, aircraft carrier sized turds in my backyard.

-when someone ask about my life goals/plans for the future and they immediately begin directing chief complaints towards me. sorry sir, i'm not a doctor, nor do i play one on t.v.

</rage>

thanks for playin'

because there are others on this forum who know me and read these threads... and they are from my school and in my classes..

there are other groups of people that talk in class too, but this 1 particular group asks insanely stupid questions.. and all of the girls in that group are black... thats why it was important

In conclusion, all black girls ask insanely stupid questions. The End.
I'M BEING FACETIOUS PEOPLE! C'MON.

I hate the use of 'male' and 'female' as nouns. In fact, there's a thread with the offending words in the title right nearby.

"Man" & "woman" or "guy" & "girl" are nouns. "Male" and "female" adjectives.

Wouldn't Male & Female be describing the Premeds in said thread?

Edit: Never mind I didn't see the standalone Male

Where else is it supposed to go??😕

In your passenger's face when you rear-end the old lady's car who stops on a dime because she thought the green light meant to stop. And then EMS gets to extricate your passenger from the car because your stupid "world's greatest dad" mug knocked 'em unconscious.

They will fail but they will all still get into Stanford. Get used to it.

woah..why did everyone jump on that guy about saying black girls?

Maybe hes never experienced a white girl or an asian girl do that.

7) Overly sensitive people who are quick to call someone a racist.

Eh..I was not offended at all, but it was an objectively racist comment. He might not have meant it that way...but he should have said "these black girls" if it was meant to be a descriptor, not generalize to "black girls." The way he said it implies that they were more annoying because they were black.

Again, I actually think he's right, I'm just saying....

Touche, I up your anty on joshing with Dave Chappelle was a funny man until he disappeared.

If they can bump it up to a D, they should be a lock for Harvard, no?

Yes but only if they get at least a 24 on the MCAT :meanie:

We really should not spark another URM debate here - I'll add that there are legitimate reasons why its important to have more minority doctors... plus we can be happy that less competitive applicants "buffer" the curve for the rest of us when we get to med school 👍

5. people who answer professors' hypothetical questions

Had one of those in my freshman science classes. We dubbed him "The Scholar." His desire to learn was just so strong. He also had the "I'm a scientist, let me deepen my voice a little and use fancy words, bow down bitches" symptom.

Oh, ok. Really as high as a 24? They must have increased their standards over the years.

This sounds like great PS material!

I mean this easily could be one of your reasons for going into medicine.

I wanted to help him, but his desire to learn was just so strong...

Gold mine right there man. 👍

1. When people think it is shameful to want to make money in medicine (where as in other field money making is glorified).

2. When premed say "I dont care about money", especially if they really mean it.

1. The reason why it is sometimes considered shameful to want to make money in medicine is because some doctors have been known to order unnecessary tests, etc because it will increase their income. This is a major contribution to the ridiculously high costs of health care in the United States. The patient needs to come first. That is why I really like hospitals like the Mayo Clinic, where doctors are given a set salary regardless of how many patients they see and how many tests they order. This encourages patient-based medicine.

2. Why is it a problem if some people don't care about having a lot of money? Personally, I don't care about having more than I need. I want to be able to pay my loans back and I want to be able to live comfortably, but I don't want excess. In fact, the only reason I would want to have excess is so that I could share that excess with others. You know what grinds my gears? When people who are really rich hoard it all to themselves and do nothing to help those in the world who are less fortunate than they are. There are families in the Dominican Republic who live on $1 per day. A gift of $100 to one of these families would be nearly a third of a year's salary. Yet it is only a penny in the pocket of many people in the United States. We make more than that in one day. Some people make more than that in one hour.

If you want to make money, OP, that is fine. There are better ways to make a lot of money than medicine, but if that is what you want, fine. Go for it. But please don't judge others who are motivated by compassion and the desire to serve. Some people would still go into medicine even if doctors made a minimal salary. There are humanitarians out there and they don't deserve to be looked down upon.
