Just wondering what your personal lives are as pharm students. What time you wake up? How long your in class, how long you study, how much free time you have, at the gym, ect.? What are your lives like on the weekends? Personally I want to get your experiences. Thank you.

there was a similar thread to this a bit back : http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=463182

its a good place to start to get a bit of an understanding of life of a pharmacy student

Other than what is discussed there, personal lives vary from person to person (greatly). I know someone that goes out drinking every single night, but studies a little bit before he goes out, so he does just fine. Me...I go out on weekends, do all my work during the week, study hardcore the 4-5 days before an exam. I don't go to the gym, I tend to sleep a lot (2-3 hour naps every day). As of right now, considering the semester is only 2 weeks in, I have plenty of free time. As the semester progresses I'll have less and less free time, but that is to be expected. And yea...thats about it. Not exactly the most interesting life ever, but it gets me by 🙂

Oh, and I go to Pitt

I go to UK and we have block exams. So I have a set of exams every 4-6 weeks. So I usually have 2 weeks that I have a lot of free time. The other 2-3 weeks I have hard core study time. I always find time to work out and sleep and have fun with my friends. Overall, my life style is great.

I get up at 6:45 every morning 😴 and have class till about 10...then I sleep till class starts again at noon. I get home around 4-5 and sleep or run errands till I have a club event around 6ish. Then I come home and study till 11-12 and go back to sleep. I have at least 1 test and 1 quiz every week, so I take what I can get as far as naps and time for errands go during the day so that my evening is a nice block of uninterrupted study time. I work every other weekend in a city about 3 hours away, so the weekends that I am off work I use just for myself 😀

I go to SWOSU ^^

Well I'm a first year at UCSF and this quarter we have 23 hours of classes, not including optional reviews. In addition to that we also have mandatory conferences from time to time. Then we have to do about 3-4 hours required shadowing a week. (This was a new requirement for the pharmacy students of class 2011.) I spend most of my time studying, but a lot of students seem to have enough time to party and get together. I still like to get good grades ^_^ The actual work is easier than it was at UC Berkeley, but there's more of it. It's not as stressful though because even if you don't do well you'll most likely pass your classes. Ha, ha, it seems kind of like a lot right now, and many of us feel overwhelmed right now. I'd say I get about 4-8 hours of sleep a night. It depends on whether or not I have an exam ^_^' Attendance isn't required for the classes, but it is for the conferences. Oh yes, and I have heard that there is an anatomy lab where we dissect human cadevers. Not looking forward to that actually. . . We don't have to write many essays or papers (just a few). Most of the grades are based on tests, just like in undergrad. However, everyone in my class is SUPER helpful so that helps with homework assignments and stuff. Anyway, yeah I hope that helps.

One thing i noticed in my 2nd semester here is that there is almost a brotherhood that exists between your classmates. I need them and they need me in order to survive. We pool resources and whatnot. Kinda help each other through the day.

other than that? What life do i have?
I do get to sleep 7 hours a day, wake up go to school. School is lecture and exams. Last semester we had 27 exams, this one its more like 20. There are a few presentations, poster as well as class. We also have compounding lab every now and then, which is a pain. We have mandatory confrences every week and as another has mentioned about the new requirements for the class of 2011 or 2010 (if you go to a 3 year scchool), we fight for shadowing hours which we need to complete (this requirement replaces the aging portfolio requirement). Class is usually 7/8 hours a day, depending on the day. With whatever free time remains, i work and i see my girlfriend that is 100 miles away.

By the end of every day, i want to drown myself in bourbon and believe that the program is actually assisted suicide in disguise ~ it is very stressful. Thus, the brotherhood thing. however the actual material is not heavy, its just the course load.

It is a good program, and as discouraging as my post is, I actually enjoy it. I enjoy the material and this is what I have always wanted to do.

thank you all for your input and i hope to hear from more people.

generally, what is your social life like? friends, girlfriends, boyfriends, family, ect?

I sleep as much as possible. I work 24 hours a week (3rd year @ 4 year school). I have a boyfriend but he works/does school a lot too so we mostly do lunch and play guitar hero when we have a couple free hours. that kinda sucks.

I don't study very much but I'm a B student. I may step it up this semester because there are a couple profs I feel inclined to impress.

School is what you make it. There are plenty of people who study 20+ hours a week who have grades better than mine (and some whose grades are worse!) but is that really worth it for where you want to go? I am a bit of a hypocrite seeing as I want to do a residency but it seems rather silly to me to see these people busting their asses for that 4.0 despite full intentions on working at Walgreens. good for them I guess.
