Hi Toothlord,
From what I understand , even if u have some experience working as an assistnat in this country, it carries weightage. So maybe u should try find any assistantship. If you are in an area where there is a university, u could try to find a research assistantship. On many occasions, they let people help with research but do not pay them.
Hope this advice helps.......
Treasure.

As was suggested in an earlier thread, schools always like applicants with a history of volunteer work.. preferably dental related. Try local community centers. Or, if you're in a university town, you could ask if they offer observership positions. I know UPenn does. No pay, but it looks good on your CV.

Not necessarily, but if they don't, try to request a reco letter from them, stating what "such a good volunteer you were". :D

thanks for your reply guys,i appreciate it and i will make your reputation look better by adding to you karma :D

Can I get rid of my karma system? I don't want that.

i dont think so....
why you dont want it?

hey let me know how to go abt the karma system :D meggs u desrve better definitely

read the new format thread. got an idea of how to use the system :D

like Tasha said you can volunteer for some community work...else you can try and help out at a local hospital/ care for the elderly at homes/ even spend time at some school. They really appreciate volunteers here.(by the way they also give out Reco letters for that)
In the meantime keep the faith and things will look up soon. Good luck with everything. :)

thank you guys, without you iam lost.

Hi all

I'm also looking for something to do this year to keep my resume current and updated as i'm not getting into the school this year.I live in a palce where there is no dental univ. Do u think i can do any volunteering work not related to dentisry in someother univ.

I wanted to do it in Public Health ,but i dont know how to go about it.I tried to contact the president of local dental society and spoke with him,but he said he doesnt have any idea about it.so If any of u know where to contact and how to proceed, pleae help me out. Thanx Buddies.

I am not too sure how to go about the voluntary work related to public health. But if you are interested in the dental field, then you can call a few dentists around the place u live and try to volunteer at a dental clinic, as that would also add to ur resume and also that way u might be able to get a reco letter from a US trained dentist.

Hi itsme

What type of works are we allowed to do while volunteering at a dental clinic.coz in observership we just have to stand and watch them all day.its sort of boring, standing in a place. so if u have been into can u pleast tell me the works u were allowed to do.Thanx and appreciated.

I personally have never volunteered at a dental clinic. But since ur question was,

I suggested working at a dental clinic.
from what I have heard from other people, u dont get much to do. but at the end u will be able to get a recommendation letter which would surely add to ur resume. (as most of the schools would give more value to a reco letter from a US trained dentist). and also, you get a feel of the dental practice in this country(patient approach, interaction, marketing, insurance claims etc...). and in the future it might help u when u start ur practice. it again depends from person to person, what i think is helpful might not be the same to another person.
If u are legally alllowed to work in this country, then u could consider getting a dental radiology license and then consider working as a dental assistant. that way u might atleast get to do some stuff.

Myself, I volunteered at NYU as a research assistant. Ofcourse I was not allowed to work on the patient but I used to do data entry and counsel the patients and educate them about the study. and schedule their appointments.

Thanx itsme, very kind of u.

I am eligible to work here.I'm thinking of joining as an assistant to some specialist.Do i need Dental Radiology Licence.Am i eligible to get it or do i have to undergo any course.coz i thought x-rays are hygenist work.

i have seen dental assistants take radiographs.how do u go abt getting a dental radiology license though? do we have to take some course?if so whr will courses be available? and wht duration will it be?

thanks non dentist. u have been very helpful.
