So it's May and I'm on 4 waitlists with 0 acceptances.

Arg! I was in philly for my last interview and while enjoying an authentic cheesesteak at Pat's: King of Steaks, I decided that I am Zoom-Zoom: King of Waitlists. Can anyone beat my record?

Any advice? I feel like I've been in purgatory since last summer. Daily mail checks, etc...miserable.

you're from california, no shocker...

when i have kids, i'll raise them in texas and all they will need to be admitted into a texas med school is a 25 MCAT 🙂

Are you kidding? I came in here expecting the "king of waitlists" to have at least 8 waitlists. I myself currently have 6 waitlists and a potential one more (and I applied to 24 schools...a 25% 😱 waitlist rate). At this point, I feel as if med schools are just trying to make me waste my money and sanity... 😡

🙄

Incidentally, while a higher percentage Texas resident applicants get accepted somewhere in state in any given year, overall a higher percentage of Californians get accepted SOMEWHERE in the country.

You guys back and forth reminded me of this Seinfeld episode... Zoom-Zoom is Seinfeld, and Fizzle is George 🙂

Well there's your problem. You should have gone to Jim's.

I met a guy at my WashU interview who was a 4th year. When he applied he had 13 waitlists and 0 acceptances post interview. Luckily he got into WashU off the waitlist.

So yeah 4 doesn't make you king. Good luck though

I got accepted off a waitlist in July last year. It totally sucks, but try to stay positive, you may get lucky yet. All it takes is one...

Are you doing that on purpose???

Dude, I'm going to one up you on that one. I'm going to marry a Mexican woman, then I'm going to kick my wife and the kids out and make them collect welfare.

My kids are going to Harvard baby!

Hey, I know that English isn't the primary language for tons of people, so I understand and don't nitpick on grammar/spelling errors at all. It's just when people start misusing idioms that I start to get bothered, since idioms inherently imply a certain level of familiarity with the language. But hey, I'm not here to accuse or one-up anyone; I'm just maintaining this list as a public service. If no one corrects them, then no one will learn, eh?

^let's keep them uncorrected, it's funnier that way. Particularly moot point/mute point as the latter kinda contradicts the former 😀

People using redundant phrases in acronyms is when I have to turn away so I don't snicker LOL. The whole POINT of an acronym is to make it shorter, not to restate what you just said--like HIV Virus, ATM Machine...also these are fair game since it would be hard to argue that non-native English speakers wouldn't get it 😎

😱 Is that even possible??

You forgot the most obvious one, ATM machine!

OP a bunch of my friends have been/are in the same position as you- it sucks. Best of luck.

WOW. I thought it would be impossible that there were others with even more waitlists AND zero acceptances. Unbelievable.

Luckily....I got into one. YAY.

Unfortunately, I now have to satisfy their biochem requirement in less than 2 months, and I can do it online, but I'm not sure if there's a place where I can do it so quickly. If anyone knows of an online course without a minimum time requirment, please let me know. I called UC B's online course this morning and they have a 3 month minimum 🙁

Congrats, and good luck. I had no idea Biochem could even be taken online... Alas you're two weeks late, or you could have taken the summer course at Univ. of Colorado-Boulder (where I'm taking Biochem right now). The course runs for the length of June only. Anyhow good luck working that out.

Edit: In that vein, if you desperately need to take Biochem, maybe you can consider taking it as a summer course somewhere out-of-state? I'm positive that at least one university in America is offering Biochem for the second half of summer.

I tutored this course--it was pretty painless. problem is, it's in Boston

This one shouldn't make the list - the 'please' from Repondez S'il Vous Plait is the intransitive verb of "if you please," which is slightly different than the homonym adverb.

Example: Please call me if you please...same word, but different meanings

I chuckle when the opposite of the examples given (repeating a letter in the acronym) occurs - not repeating a letter, but dropping it:

For example, I attend a lot of radiology conferences where doctors will say things like "MR Imaging is the..."

Thanks for the link, that was a good one. Classes started today, unfortunately. Might have been fun spending the summer at "Hahvahd" 😛

classes start tonight for biochem. late registration through thursday. summer in boston is pretty clutch 🙂

i just want to know something. how can you get 7 waitlists and no acceptances? is it because you didn't interview well enough or do schools only initially accept the people they really want?

It's a combination of both, really. 🙁

maybe you applied really late in the cycle but you were such a good applicant that got some interviews but since they were so late you ended up in a waitlist. So the moral of the day is "APPLY EARLY"
