Undergrad School: Private average midwest school, NON URM (Indian)
Country/state of residence- California
Cumulative GPA- 3.64
Science GPA–sGPA 3.49
UPWARD TREND 4.0 last two years
MCAT Scores- 1st MCAT 503 (127/123/126/127);
2nd MCAT: 501
Research–Neurosurgery at Stanford (200+ hours) - Published 2nd author.
Working on another publication and chapter summaries.
Volunteering (clinical)
-
Lots of Clinical volunteering and patient contact.
-Over 1000 hours (700 hours at Veterans Hospital)

Non-clinical volunteering-
-Lots of underserved community work - such as tutoring and campus kitchen, educating low socioeconomic patients on basic health education.
-Over 200 hours
Extracurricular activities-
-Founded religious club, delegate for social justice organization
-Over 300 hours physician shadowing (ophthalmology, neurosurg, geriatrics, Emergency Med)
-Shadowed a DO too - anesthesia
Employment history-
-Academic Tutor
- Lots of awards for academics and volunteering


Really prefer allopathic schools, but I understand beggars can't be choosers.

GAP YEAR: I am taking a gap year (just graduated) and I will be doing an MHS at Johns Hopkins University where i will science classes/m1 classes.

Unless you retake your MCAT and get a 510+, I don't think you have much of a chance at MD. Doing worse on your MCAT hurts big time and your science GPA is a little on the low side, too. You have a shot at DO, but that MCAT still hurts.
 
I can't recommend any MD school and suggest that you apply broadly to DO, starting with Touro-CA and Western.

@Goro do I have a strong chance at good DO schools? If I retook the MCAT, what score would I need to get to be competitive for MD? And would that be worth it?
 
Why do you think you can magically get a much better score? You'd need a 513 + to get any traction, I think.

Apply broadly to DO schools, especially the newest schools. But I can't recommend LUCOM, and skip the coastal Touros, CCOM, AZCOM, KCU, and Western


@Goro do I have a strong chance at good DO schools? If I retook the MCAT, what score would I need to get to be competitive for MD? And would that be worth it?

My practice scores were 509-512 and I just don't know what happened here. I was going to take a year before my next test and also do a masters program before taking it again. @Goro
