Hello, I am a FL resisdent, reapplicant and I just graduated from a top 60 University (top 30 public institution). I applied late last year and had a poor verbal on my mcat (VR=7). I had one interview and was rejected afterwards. So far I retook my MCAT and submitted most my applications in the early/middle of August. I have no II's

cGPA/sGPA:3.8

MCAT: 1st Attempt: 28, 10-7-11, 2nd Attempt: 32, 11-11-10

EC's:
-2 years as a Critical Care Tech, 7 months full time work and full time school
-1 semester internship as a wellness supervisor and exercise specialist at a community based physical therapy clinic
- over 100 hours medical volunteering/ shadowing in inpatient and outpatient setting
- 1 semester Church Volunteer
-1 semester leadership position in my Fraternity
-competed in local 5k races, and intramural track meet, first overall finisher in one 5k

So far during my year off, I have been focusing on community service, I have been volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and I am a volunteer Camp Leader for kids with life threatening illness. I also volunteer at a wildlife rehabilitative center.

School List
Florida State University
University of Florida
University of Central Florida
University of South Florida
Florida International University
Florida Atlantic University
University of Miami
George Washington University
Georgetown
Creighton
St. Louis University
Tufts
New York Medical College
Wake Forest

My questions

1.What else should I be doing for my year off, I have been pursuing clinical research in my hometown, but there are no available positions? Should I try to get a job as a medical assistant or scribe instead?
2. What are my chances on my school list (I want to pursue a clinician track rather than research)?

Thank-you for the input

I would suggest research if you can but I'm bias towards that side. It wouldn't hurt to show you can do it even though you don't want to go that route. I think your schools are fine. Your schools are all good, but you probably could have taken a realistic shot at some better ones.

You'll be fine. NYMC is very leniant and there are really good schools you put on your list. If I was a conductor, I'd check you off the list for the train. Don't worry, be yourself and you'll do great!

I think you made a good strategic choice by getting involved in regular, local nonmedical community service. If you can take on some leadership in one of them during this year, that would be good as well. I question whether this late altruistic involvement will be enough to appeal to schools like Creighton and Georgetown. I think that your excellent clinical experience is probably enough to override the lack of research for many schools. I'd hope that you have some primary care shadowing and not just specialists on your list.
