So I just found out my friend may be able to get me this part time summer job at an interactive science museum where you get to make chemical reactions, play with animals, and goof around in the exhibits with the kids all day. I have all the required science courses and I'm super pumped :D

Mediterranean cruise officially being booked this weekend for June  I decided I'll stay at my job a little bit longer since the cruise is earlier than I thought it was going to be. So 10 days of vacation, and then I'll work for another month or so, and then I'll chill for a couple weeks before school starts.

All these vacations people are taking is making me super jealous! I'm working at my post doc position until July 31st, then moving wherever I decide to attend. I'm also going to try to enjoy as much of my free time as possible by going to concerts, reading, and generally enjoying the summer. I guess I should throw some working out in there too. My sister and I are probably going to Chicago at some point too!

I'm going to work as many hours as I can to try to get some of the debt I already have paid off. I have no money for any relaxing vacations or time off.

I'll be continuing with my research fellowship throughout the summer, and hopefully getting good data and getting my name in some publications.:D I'm having a hard time deciding when I want to end it. I love what I'm doing, and I feel like anytime I leave would be too soon! I had even talked to my PI about deferring vet school so I can continue with research, but she gave me her blessing, so I guess I'm going to vet school this fall after all.

But once I do finish, I want to spend some time back home in California with my family and friends before moving. It just complicates things that I have to go from East coast, to West coast, to wherever I go to school. I just need to have my last admission decision in before I can start planning.... Snail mail please be faster.:bang:

Working, moving into new apartment with good friend/future roomie, finishing up and submitting a manuscript, lots of birding, hiking, etc. :D

I seriously can't wait until everything is green again... I need a good hike through some green leafy woods with birds singing all over the place.

For the most part, I'm just going to relax. Hopefully get back into a semi-regular exercise routine (I really, really need it ) and improve my cooking skills. I didn't plan on working and instead was just going to hang back, but now I'm toying with the idea of getting something part-time to help save up some funds for living expenses for the first couple months of vet school -- that, or at least make a dent in my undergrad debt if I can. No plans for vacation or anything yet, though knowing my awesome parents, I'm sure they'll want to do something. :D

I hear you. I am working as a GRA and my defense is July 8 :dead:

I'm having trouble deciding when to make the move up to Manhattan. My lease here is up end of May, so it would be nice to move beginning of June, but then I'll be gone on vacation almost the entire month of June, and I'd rather not pay rent at a place that I'm not living at. Plus it would mean dealing with moving on/around my birthday (June 4th), and I wouldn't have time to really get settled before leaving on vacation. My parents have offered to let me stay with them for a bit over the summer, so I don't HAVE to move straight from one apartment to the other, although I would have to get a storage unit for most of my stuff. (Almost all of my furniture originally came from my parents, but then my grandma moved in with them, so now with her furniture there my stuff wouldn't fit :p) So moving beginning of July after I get back and family 4th of July stuff is over would be ideal, I'll just have to find someplace that has openings then. Unfortunately with college towns it seems like most leases start August 1st. If I can't move until then I'll be fine, but I would like to have more time to get used to the town before orientation starts August 15th. Mainly I need to decide on an apartment first and find out when they have openings. I've found a couple that look promising, but it will depend on my impressions when I visit in April. IDK, this is the farthest I'll have ever moved so I'm just being nervous and twitchy about it (but also excited!). My last couple moves were less than a block, so I've been spoiled!

I was able to land a job at a vet specialist clinic! Even though it's a small clinic (only two vets work there, a surgeon and an ophthalmologist), I'm pumped! :D

And since I graduated in December, I can start working there now ;)

My boss's boss was definitely willing to let me stay an extra month until August first! It just depends on what happens with the RDs they hire this spring. That's an extra month of pay and not having to pay rent. July is pretty cushy apparently cause the camps are in June. Sounds like a plan!

As of now, my summer plans consist of having/recovering from lateral ankle ligament reconstruction surgery. So that's exciting. :yeahright: I want to get it dealt with before vet school though, and I'm going to make the most of it - I figure a summer of video games, Netflix, and reading (for fun) might be just what I need after 3 years of working/undergrad. I'll be nice and refreshed and all ready for vet school to knock my on my butt in the fall. ;)

Road trip for me!!! All the way from Hawaii to New York, what a great trip. I'm going to make it all about visiting incredible places to eat and camping and sightseeing. I haven't been on here much lately because I have so much to do. Next week is my last week as a vet tech and next month will be my last as a waitress. Feels great.

Wow, and I thought my road trip I'm planning from Missouri to New York to Florida and back was ambitious! Although I'm curious how you'll be driving from Hawaii. ;)

Have fun getting the ****s! Floating cesspools.

I did a Mediterranean cruise after my senior year of high school. Best vacation I've ever been on. You'll love it WZ! Are you going to Santorini, Greece by any chance? It's one of my favorite cities on earth!

The horrors of cruises are greatly exagerrated. I went on a cruise in December with about thirty classmates and significant others; we had a grand old time and nobody got sick.

I'm going home for a week after graduation then am going to Harry Potter World! Then I will be spending my summer riding my horse, reading some books by the pool, and hopefully working an easy job to save up some money.

Well, I can scratch the cool job I had lined up, since if I can't get off of the waitlist at LSU, I only get 47 days of summer starting the day after graduation.
:(

I plan to now just spend time with friends and family before moving the six hours to Northern Mississippi, because it looks like I won't be back until Christmas. That will be the farthest and longest that I've been away from home! I'm excited to do it though.

I've never even been on a cruise, that's why I'm allowed to judge them with no evidence to back my claims.

Western Mediterranean, so Italy, France, Spain.

I really want to take the BF on a cruise in the southern Caribbean. Found a week-long one in Aruba, Bon Aire, and Grand Turk. Friend of a friend went on this cruise and absolutely loved it.

Oh, you can definitely go wrong with a cruise. I went on a Caribbean cruise a few years ago and we were supposed to stop at three islands. Apparently winds were too strong for us to dock at the first two islands, so we spent three straight days roaming the sea. Half of us were extremely seasick the second day too. I was more than happy to get off that boat and probably would be hesitant to try a cruise again.

I'd love to go on a cruise... But it seems like everyone I know is scared of boats. :(

Right there with you. I went on one when I was younger and *loved* it, but my whole family got seasick. :( And now I'm with a guy who gets so motion sick he won't go near a boat... so no cruises for me haha.

I'm trying to plan a graduation cruise with my best friend! We did it when we both graduated high school, so we're trying to make it a tradition. ;)

We're trying to look at prices now since we both have pretty strict budgets.... she was saying under 1000, I was thinking more like 700 or so because I figure once drinks and souvenirs are factored in, we're probably going to end up with more like 1000. Maybe getting a 700$ cruise and we buy drink packages may help? We're not totally sure yet.

I heard depending on the cruise, the drink packages might not be worth it. But that's just he said/she said.

Reading all your plans makes me jealous. My big summer plans might involve buying a set of new tires. If I decide to get real crazy I might replace my windshield too!

Look at vacationtogo.com it's a legit website and you can get cruises for cheaper than normal. I've done numerous cruises through them and saved major $$$.

Drink packages can be insanely expensive. At Carnival it's $50/person/day, and both people in the cabin have to get it. So for a 7 day cruise you're talking an extra $700 per couple, plus the additional gratuity that gets talked on. When I went on the cruise I drank a moderate amount and paid per drink and didn't get anywhere close to spending that much.

Hm I was thinking if cocktails are over 10$ (I know cruise mark-ups can be a lot!) and we have at least 5 a day, we'd save money that way... which I think we would:ninja:

If cocktails are that expensive. Word is if you can find the bars with the specials, you'll come out the other end drunk as a skunk but still with cash in your pocket

You can also bring alcohol on board on some cruises

I can throw you some extra sets from my previous chair. They should work, right?

The other possibility is @alohacat319 is just a shill and works for that scam site. She's spent almost a year pretending to be a pre-vet student building trust, and now is her time to shine. She even said she went to the same school as me, which was a very smart move :p

While vacationstogo is a legit site, you can find the same price on cruises through the cruise line websites. It's like kayak or something - just makes it easier to search.

I have been on... at least 5 cruises. Never got sick, always had a good time. Just got tired of the usual stops and the predictable food.

I guess the cruise lines don't advertise those prices very well (understandably I guess) because I couldn't find anything like that...
