It's application season and thought I'd start off this thread for the 2017 cycle. Please feel free to post about any updates on interviews or any other application related info. It would be pretty useful have an idea of the timeline when programs start giving out invites and whatnot. Good luck to everyone applying! I'm sure the next few months are going to fly by quickly.

Let the anxiety begin (at least for me) ... :arghh::vulcan::wacky: who the hell knows what these programs are using to select interviewees!

From the previous interview threads it looks like the earliest interview calls were ~3rd week of August, so just another week or two. Good luck to everyone!

No interview invites, but I did get a call from the director of a non-match ortho program to discuss why I wanted to pursue ortho a few days after submitting my application. This thread should start to get more action soon.

I've been driving everyone around me nuts playing this crazy waiting game. I JUST took the GRE yesterday so and stressing the official scores won't be ready in time for the Aug 31/Sept 1 schools... I know they will. I'm just looking for something to think about while I wait :p
 
what's a good GRE score ? I am taking GRE next week but i didn't prepare at all.

Awesome Wiredtrix. Glad to see the interview season begin.

As a side note, I was under the faulty assumption that interviews would be extended after program application deadlines.

I think another helpful bit to add to this year's list are the dates when Non-Match schools send out their actual acceptances. It would give a good idea as to how early on one may be forced to make a decision.

For ex, I believe UNLV generally sends out their acceptances end of September? verses Roseman or JU which may send them end of October to November.

Nope! They have a new admissions system this year. The closest I got was an email saying "we will contact you if we need any further info".

Do you guys know if Herman Ostrow need ADAT this year to apply ??

Per the ADA's list, USC Herman Ostrow was not requiring the ADAT. They're not listed on the list at all (Requiring, Accepting, Not Accepting). They confirmed my application as complete and I didn't take it. Hope that helps.

Is anyone else as anxious as I am...I keep checking my email every hour I think to see if any schools are sending out invites for interviews...AHHH

Yup. Everyday passes by very very slowly. But there are some schools which have yet to send application complete email.

From my experience in applying to prosthodontics a few years ago, most won't send out confirmations of your application being complete - I received one complete for my PASS application so I'm sure the rest are seeing the same. I checked in on the ortho department at my current school and they said they were going to download the applications from PASS on Sept 9th and have faculty review them that weekend with interview invites coming out the following week. Another non-pass program I visited said they were going to notify people of interviews around Sept 10th. Schools that use graduate admissions departments for processing won't likely get the applications for a few weeks. In those schools completed applications are collated and delivered to program directors as a whole. My dental school's grad admissions dept ran that way. Such a waste of time and money!

*I'm intentionally leaving out names of programs... Directors and faculty visit SDN from time to time and I don't want to be spouting tales about their program's admissions schedules.
 
Has anyone heard anything about Pacific? The application complete email said interviews will be given out end of August :S
 
Received a rejection from Indiana University. So I am guessing some got interview dates.

Side note for everyone watching this thread:
If I've learned anything in the past couple years applying it's to not lose any sleep over this. Obviously you need to work hard and do your best to earn a spot somewhere, but don't beat yourself up over it. I've learned a lot about myself in the last couple years that I'm very thankful for. Have a plan B in mind - the reality is that not all of us applicants will get a position somewhere. That doesn't have to be the end of the line though; if ortho is where you want to be then you'll get there.

Sorry to be the Debbie Downer - I just want to help you guys/gals avoid the disappointment and depression that I felt after my first app cycle. I got lucky and got in to an AEGD program - but I should have had a backup in mind from the start.
