Ever since my April fool's attempt, looks like everyone's getting in on the gag. Even my DAD got me yesterday. I called to say the undergrad research conference was over and my presentation and question-answering went real well and all that jazz. He goes, "well, then you had an excellent weekend. You got a letter from Florida on Saturday. They accepted you."
After about 30 seconds of building up the 'no-ways' and 'thank gods' he finally brought me back down to earth by going "just making sure you'd be excited to get into your third choice, USeF."

i'm so sorry, pelicanman! that really sucks. but if you're still on other waitlists, then it's definitely not over. i know people who didn't get into any schools until mid-july, and now they're almost done with their first year. you just never know what might happen. best of luck!

Thanks for the support guys. The problem is that I don't know what to do. I don't know if I should start filling my application for next year or what. The problem is that I am going to Israel all of June so I will not be able to do the application then. Plus like you guys said I may get in really late. I really hope Pritzker accepts me. I don't know my interviews at Wake Forest went well so maybe they will accept me. I really don't care where I go now, I just want the reassurance of somebody accepting me.

I think that being on the alternate list will likely mean you'll end up with an acceptance. In that case, please forget anything that i just said to Pelican Man

•••••Foxy, I'll be straight with you. Based on the experiences of my friends, the alternate list is just a huge waiting game, and is not the most promising position to be in. None of my friends that were on it got off it the last couple of years. I believe that's why 2NT turned down the spot on the alternate list. I don't wanna get you down, but you gotta understand that everybody is dying to go to UF. Just look at the quality of applicants that got shot down pre-interview or post-interview or are still on hold. Everybody who's interviewed is more than qualified to be accepted, but there just aren't enough spots. It's the best school in Florida, it's cheap, and you can get whatever residency you want coming out of here. That's why their yield is insanely high. They offered 126 acceptances last year for 96 spots. They actually got screwed over by the state legislature coz they were supposed to get funding for 108 seats, but at the end of the year, they were told they're only getting money for 96. They overaccepted last year, and were praying that only 96 show up. Somehow it worked out. Don't give up. Being an alternate is not a bad place to be, but it's really a matter of how many people give up their acceptances. I think you have a better chance this year than you would have had in past years b/c UF interviewed a lot fewer applicants and they interviewed extremely highly qualified applicants. The more highly qualified applicants you accept, the lower your yield will probably become. Essentially, I expect them to have to offer more acceptances this year b/c a higher percentage of those accepted will turn them down. Maybe 140-150 acceptances to fill the class this year? I dunno, I hope it works out for you though. There's still hope, don't give up!

I'm so sorry this is so agonizing for you guys! I feel like I know all of you and I would LOVE to have you all for classmates! Believe me when I say that our class doesn't really know what's going on either...frankly, we're all grateful that we got in when we did.

Oh yeah, I just want to reiterate again..they won't accept JUST the 4.0, 35+ MCATers!!! Those are the people that get BORED with medical school and eventually drop out ('cause they're smart enough to do a lot of easier things to make money). Even though our class average was a 30, I can assure you that MOST of the class was RIGHT AT 30 (27-32), rather than a bunch of 35+ers. I think we may have about 10-15 of those...

USeF: I'm sorry, dogg. I can't believe that UF is screwing over the creme de la creme of the applicant pool. We were both in one of the first interview groups...oh well. Don't worry, you'll be at Pitt or Chicago next year.

I still haven't heard anything, but that's because I go to college in the Northeast. I might not hear until Saturday or Monday. From what I've read on this site, it looks like I'm guaranteed a rejection. Am I wrong? Do you think they addressed any alternate list letters on the 15th??? Anyways, I'm just going to be patient and hope for the best.

Aargh!! Sorry guys, I haven't gotten back to anybody who asked me to check for their pictures, but to tell you the truth I haven't seen anybody's. I think all of you got letters but I didn't want to be the bearer of bad news (or misinformation if I was looking in the wrong place). To my knowledge, there haven't been any new pictures to go up in about two weeks. It seems the ADCOM has made up its mind and for reasons we will never know formulated its class. I think those of you on the waitlist might be in a better position than previous years due to UFs push to go after "Ivy Leaguers". I still think some of those guys will choose to go elsewhere, so don't give up hope! For the rest of you, you might not be going to UF next year, but feel fortunate that you have somewhere to go. I just went past the library and saw a bunch of red-eyed premeds cramming for the MCATs this weekend. At least we're not with those guys!

ok, I was so hyper on Friday that I didn't realize until now that my interviewer from UF emailed me in response to a thank you letter. He wrote: "Thanks for your letter re your interview. I also enjoyed our
conversation, and hope that you eventually get accepted here."---I hope that means he gave me a good recommendation. Anyway, I had asked him how I can enhance my application to get in, and he suggested I call, email, or write to the dean (Dr Gessner). I already sent a letter accepting my spot on the alternate list saying UF was my first choice, but I want to send a strong letter of intent saying I will drop my acceptance at another school and withdraw all other apps if I get into UF. I'm also going to update them on my recent ECs.

Now, does this sound ok, and can I email it in addition to snail mailing it? (I want them to get it ASAP). Should it be addressed to the dean or the medical selection committee? And lastly, should I buy fancy resume-type paper for letters of interest like this one? (I think I'll do the last one since it's not a big deal to get some).

Wow, I've been sitting here reading this eight-paged ordeal. I actually can't remember when I was interviewed but I know it was before december. I was placed on hold and haven't heard word since. Following the trend of the most recent posts- I can only assume a rejection letter is headed my way. As for right now I'm waiting on USF to accept me still, but I've been accepted at USA. Who else was headed that way? Anyway, Doctora Foxy- I do wish you the best of luck. You've shown an amazing passion toward UF and I hope they note it as well.

Bubba Swamp- No, I'm not at UF.. actually I'm at UWF which is Pensacola. I really liked USA, and I'm glad I'm accepted- but I'm hoping on USF still. One of my friends from HS who went to a different undergrad was accepted into the 2006 class. If I get accepted we'd be able to be around each other again- which would be cool. I've got other reasons too though. *shrug* Who Knows?! Well, If I do end up at USA I'll be sure to hunt you down. *Mu Ha hA*

Sidenote: I did receive a letter from UF today and it was for the alternate list. So, I guess they are not only sending out rejection letters. I'm not sure when it was postmarked- my mom was having too much fun taunting me with it over the answering machine.

That's cool that you may have a friend from high school in med school with you. I know of only one other person from my graduating class who is in med school. He's attending an Alabama school, just not the one I will be. I find it amusing that people from the panhandle are having a far easier time placing into out-of-state public schools than they are placing into in-state publics.
