For those who are interviewing, do you know the schedule for the interview day? I'm trying to set up my flights and was wondering around when the interview would end.

All of the interview dates have been Mondays with morning and afternoon sessions. I'm not sure what time the morning session ends (possibly 11:30?), but I do know afternoon sessions end at 6pm. I'm doing an afternoon session and my flight out is at 8:55pm.

Thanks! I just called and they said that the morning sessions end at 1pm. Anyone else interviewing on October 21 in the morning?

what are the chances of an II if tuncom has sent you a secondary? I heard that tuncom pre-screens the aacomas application. do you think chances for II are higher if secondary is submitted in early september which is still early for the do cycle?

Did anyone get put on hold or receive a rejection yet?

when you complete/submit? congrats!
I submitted 8/12 but I was never notified about being complete. I think they had misplaced my file so I called them and then they sent me an email saying my file was now under review. This was on 8/27

Does anyone know if there is a student hosting program for those interviewing?

Anyone else interviewing Sept. 15? I'll be in town Sunday-Tues, visiting my old paramedic partner...PM me if you want to explore the area a little or grab food.

So,

No point in preparing for this interview as there is no script as to what the interviewers ask. Be yourself...but for real.

For those who already had an interview, how was the school?

Kind of a weird location and building (a converted warehouse essentially) but inside was very well done. Didn't get to see the anatomy lab because students were dissecting during our tour time, but the classrooms were nice and there is a gym/basketball court inside as well. Was there anything in particular that you wanted to know?

The building looked like there weren't any windows and that kinda weirds me out, did it feel weird to you also?

Not really, but I'm used to working in places with no windows so you're probably asking the wrong person haha. I really like the strength of the clinical rotations, as well as the location (las vegas!)

How was the interview day? What was the interview like? Did you have a student give you a tour or was it staff? Did you have a chance to talk to current students?

there's only 1 30 min interview. is that the beginning of the session or near the end? what do we do for the rest of the day?

Okay I have taken full advantage of other thoughtful people who have written very detailed interview trip reports, so it’s about time I returned the favor and passed along some SDN love. Helps take the stress out of interview day and lets you relax and enjoy the experience ;)

Travel:

My interview was on a Monday, so I flew into LV early Sunday to give myself some time to get to know the area and get situated. I landed at McCarran a little before noon. If you are renting a car, which I recommend since they are pretty inexpensive in Vegas (a 2 day rental is equal to cab fare both ways to the airport) you need to take a free shuttle from ground transportation to the rental car center. After picking up my miniature clown car, I headed to the Hilton Garden Inn, which was fairly reasonable and a 5 minute drive from TUNCOM. I was too early to check in, so I used this time to do some recon on the school and figure out how to get there. Parking is an issue at TUNCOM (only like 5 visitor spots!?) so make sure to get there early. I barely managed to squeeze my Mazda 2 rental into the last and tiniest space (street parking) on interview day.

Lodging:

I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn. It was nice, but not spectacular. No free breakfast, but great hot tub! There is a casino on Water street in Henderson that advertised something like sub-2 dollar breakfast, but I didn’t take advantage of it. I have brought my swimsuit to every interview so far and have not regretted it J. It was like 100+ degrees while I was there, don’t leave anything in the car like electronics that can’t handle the heat.

Food:

It’s Las Vegas, you can find any type of food you want and most of it will be open 24 hrs a day. Go crazy.

For the interview:

Kosher pizza and salad. Water/soda/tea. Kosher means no meat with cheese (among other things), so your options are cheese, veggie, or mushroom. Also, the dough is strangely sweet. I’m technically Jewish but I’ve never had kosher pizza before this.

Stuff to do:

Again, it’s Las Vegas. Go crazy…only AFTER your interview. I got in early so I went on Tripadvisor for stuff to do in Henderson. I ended up at the Clark County museum, which was only $2. Only fun if you are a Las Vegas history buff—I’m not. Also located in Henderson is a no-**** Lion refuge. It’s where the lions at the MGM grand go to retire or something. I didn’t go, but it looks worth checking out. The night before my interview I relaxed, went over my app/essays and mentally reviewed my motivations for wanting to become a Doc. Then I got super bored and went to a hookah lounge on a Sunday night…no one there besides me and the owner for a while, so I picked his brain on Henderson, Las Vegas traffic, good places to live, etc. I also trashed my lungs with hookah smoke to develop that rich, sonorous voice for interview day. Finished the night at the hotel hot tub to relax.

“Campus”:

Campus is one building. It’s a converted warehouse in a warehouse area of Henderson. Pros are that it’s still relatively easy to get to and there are nice neighborhoods in the area. Also, you probably don’t want to walk from building to building (i.e. a traditional campus) in 100 degree heat. Cons are that it has no windows, which personally didn’t bother me but I guess that freaks some people out. Overall it was pretty nice inside. Upstairs was a little stuffy. Everything is fairly new so that’s nice. There is a cool gym/basketball area that is open for those who want to work out between classes or before/after school.

Interview:

Pretty relaxed. 30 min, 2 people. The interview is open file and I had many questions that related to me/my file. Know your app and motivations and you’ll do just fine. Be yourself! 30 minutes may seem like a while but it went by really fast. Make your time with the interviewers count.

Rest of Interview Day:

Pretty standard. Faculty member led the tour, but we had a panel of first and second year students to spitball questions at with no staff or faculty present. There was also a presentation from the Dean and from the financial aid person. Overall I had a pretty good experience. I’m not into gambling/clubs and I’ve been to Vegas a lot so it was a pretty relaxed trip. But if you are into that sort of thing, stay a few days after the interview. You deserve it!

Just turned in my secondary, cgpa 3.64 sgpa 3.60, MCAT 25 (8 PS, 7VR, 10BS), chances of an ii at this school? Thanks!

Accidentally sent LORs through Interfolio before getting the email to do so. I called this morning and the lady I spoke to said that I would need to turn in my LORs to be complete, and due to my neurotic nature, I immediately turned them in and now after reading the email which says that they received my app, they will contact me for the documents necessary at a later time, it turns out that I would have to wait. Seems like such a rookie mistake, but do you guys think that they may throw my app in the bin due to "cannot follow directions"? It really sucks because this is one of my top schools.

Also, I didn't add my AACOMAS ID on the delivery (I use different emails on Interfolio and on my AACOMAS). Do you think they'll be able to get my letters even without my ID number?

My school uses virtualeval and my letters were downloaded before I was verified. I will be interviewing here.

That's such a relief, thanks vlazlo! You mean before you were verified by AACOMAS? Thanks!

My prehealth advisor told me all schools downloaded the letters by July 21st and I was verified by Aacomas the 28th. I received my secondary from TUN August 6th.

Know a lot of people who went here and loved it. Does anyone have a list of where rotations can be done from?
Hi all! Current OMS-4 here at TUN. I was browsing around SDN for residency interview threads and stumbled onto this thread. Brings back so many memories :). Good luck to you all! I didn't see a response to Moonwake's question from the first page, so I figured I'd give my perspective. List of rotation sites- first and foremost, when speaking with anyone in Admin on this campus, they are called "clerkships". They are very fussy about this topic. Second, the office in charge of scheduling said clerkships (Clinical Education) does not publish a list of sites/preceptors that students have access to (weird, I know). There are a lot of potential clerkship sites for this school, which I see as a plus. Most of the major hospitals in the area host TUN students- UMC, Valley Health System (Valley Hospital, Summerlin, etc), St. Rose Hospitals, Nellis Air Force Base Hospital and the VA hospital. Many clerkships (including surgery, internal medicine, family, peds, psych) don't have to be at a specific place- you can request preceptors throughout the Las Vegas area to host you- outpatient or inpatient. You are pretty much free to build your schedule third and fourth year as you see fit (within reason). Third year you can only do a couple "away" clerkships (basically outside the LV area). Fourth year, it's a little more flexible. Let me know if you all have any other questions that I can answer! and GOOD LUCK at your interviews! Relax, breathe and be yourself!
