do the students in this school have trouble going into a specialty because the schools focus is on rural and primary medicine; or does the school help them out as well. Also, does anyone have information like boards pass rate, etc.

For those have decision pending, how long have you guys had that status? I've recently been changed from decision deferred to decision pending. I'm not sure if it's a good news though. Maybe they have finally come to the decision to reject me instead of deferring me :(
Im stuck on decision pending and I got the email about app status check on september 14th... playing the waiting game

Has anyone been given an interview that has been decision pending for over six weeks now??? I'm tired of waiting...

yes ... i was getting worried too but i did get an interview. i called them to see if they had any information and as it turned out they were behind on applications. i would call the admissions office and she can check what applications they're up to .. the woman i spoke to was very nice and very helpful.

good luck! hang in there!

Anyone else interviewing 12/19?

What hotels are people staying at for the interviews? Any with interviewee discount?

Does anybody know what's going on with this school? My primary has been in with them since mid-September, I have great stats (3.63/31P), great ECs, OOS (from Ohio) etc but I'm getting absolutely no love from their admissions department. I emailed them about a month ago about my status and they tried to tell me that I wasn't logging into their status page properly. I am logging in properly and I'd like an interview! My friends are getting interviews here and they have stats that are worse than mine. What gives?

I'm so confused! I never submitted my secondary application to WVSOM because I had already gotten into CCOM (my top choice) but today I received an email interview invitation. I apologize if this was addressed earlier in this forum as my computer is super slow and I didn't get to go through all the previous pages of this forum. Did anyone else receive an invite without filling out their secondary? I just kind of let their secondary sit in my inbox and didn't withdraw or anything.

You only fill out their secondary once you have been invited for an interview.. so submitting your primary to them through AACOMAS was all you had to do to get the interview

Yeah that happens often. They'll give you an interview date and then send the secondary application either at the same time or shortly thereafter. Then just submit the secondary by 2 weeks (I think) before your interview. But if you've already accepted somewhere else, just call or e-mail the admissions office and cancel your interview.

Make sure you're selecting the right application cycle year (2009/2010) before you log in. If you've got the right year selected, what does your status say when you log in?

Don't be afraid to call the admissions office to find out what's going on with your application. Everyone there is incredibly nice and helpful. They can let you know if things are going slowly because they're backed up on processing apps or if you're missing something like LORs or whatever the case may be.

Yea right after that post I went through my old emails and figured it out. I totally forgot that's how WVCOM did it. Anyway, I'll be withdrawing. Thanks for the info though!

Is it true that lewisburg does not have taxi or public transportation services? How did you, who have been interviewed, get around? And can someone tell me what is the closest airport, and hotels? Thank you.

You are correct. There used to a be taxi service, but they're no longer in operation. You're only way really to get around is to have a car or rent a car.

There are a couple airports. There is actually a regional airport right in Lewisburg, and Continental airlines flies in there from Cleavland. However, the tickets are rather expensive. The cheapest I've found is to fly into Charleston, WV, rent a car at the airport and drive down to WV. It will be cheaper to do that all together than to just fly into Lewisburg (Greenbrier Airport).

I stayed at the Super 8 Motel about a half a mile from the school...cheap..free wireless internet and free breakfast.

Hi Everyone,

So I had an interview last week and was accepted! I LOVED it there and was very impressed with the community, students, school etc.
I wasn't having any doubts until I started looking around on SDN and I have to admit I'm a bit freaked out by what some people have been posting, such as the low board scores for comlex 1 (in the mid 80's, ahh, I'm pretty sure other osteopathic schools are higher than this) and concern about clinical rotation sites.
Do people have a hard time setting up 4th year rotations? And where do the majority end up? Or is it very spread out?
I know I can't take everything on SDN seriously but all this info is really bothering me. I am not trying to start any trouble I just have this uneasy feeling now and I am waiting/hoping to be proved wrong...
I would really appreciate some info/feedback from current students (esp any 3rd or 4th yrs).
Thanks!

I'm sure you're not going to have trouble with getting a 4th year rotation. 4th year you can setup wherever you want and go there, it's really up to you and the possibilities are endless.

Does anyone here have interview invite on Dec 15 and also arrive at LWB airport sometimes before the date? I've just learned driving so I don't feel comfortable renting a car. So I would like to split the gas money or car renting fee with you if you're willing to give me a drive from LWB airport to maybe Super8 hotel. Thank you.

Call the admissions office, when I interviewed they had arranged rides for students from the airport to the school so they didn't have to get a car, it would be worth a try!

is it true that there are no cabs/car services from greenbriar airport? that can't be, right?

There is no taxi service in lewisburg.

Anyone knows what the interview:acceptance ratio is for this school?

how did everyone get from the airport to the hotel/school? did you all rent cars?

Hey guys,

I am not sure if WVSOM is cool with applicants calling for earlier interview dates-- but if anyone wants to try, I cancelled a 12/19 interview so there should be an open spot

I flew into Lynchburg, VA and rented a car. It was $200 cheaper than flying straight into Greenbrier Airport. Since I was under 25, the rate doubled. So it was around $55, then I added insurance just to make sure. I think it's about $30. After taxes and 2 days rental, my total came out to be almost $200.

I think you'll enjoy the drive on the mountain. The scenery is gorgeous. I came from a small city and I think Lewisburg is a wonderful town. The campus is amazing, too! Good luck!

hello everyone,
anyone know if the supplemental has to be into the admissions office one week after the interview notice? It says in the email but that just seems really quick

Thanks

I'm going to withdraw my application probably tomorrow, so theres going to be an open spot for an interview on December 1st if anyone is interested.

I can't in good conscience even consider a school that costs 50 grand per year in tuition alone when I've been accepted somewhere that costs 27/year (LECOM-erie).

Hope somebody can use the spot. Good luck

You need to do it ASAP...or else it will probably look bad on your part.

I know that they do not like to reschedule but do you know if they mind moving you up?

They originally did it for me because I had a good excuse, that I was presenting research at an engineering conference. Otherwise it would have been today actually.

I interviewed last week and they said there is a chance the committee will get to my application tomorrow (Tues, 11/18).

For those of you lucky accepted, how were you notified?

When you go to the website: http://www.wvsom.edu/applicants/admissions/AppCheckStatus.cfm, and login, if you're accepted, it will say "Accept Applicant" where it before it said either Decision Pending of Interview Applicant.

After about 2 weeks or so, I also received a hard copy in the mail saying that I was accepted.

WVSOM is my top choice of the schools I interviewed at... EVMS, CCOM, PCOM, and VCOM.

I'm just so relieved and happy. I'm not positive I'll be attending, but I know that I will be comfortable learning medicine and living there.

By the way, I left my interview feeling like there was little chance I would be accepted. On the reverse side, I had an amazing feeling about my EVMS interview and was waitlisted. So this just goes to show your gut feeling after an interview means next to nothing, especially if you are like me and think about every negative aspect on the way home.

Still haven't chosen when school you're going to ?
I just got an interview invite at VCOM which is my number 1 choice, so I am still holding out for them. Unfortunately I am going to have to send in my first deposit to WVSOM without knowing for sure because the interview is not until january 12:cool:

Just found out I was accepted today!! I'm so happy! I have a couple friends that attend the school already and love it.

This is my first acceptance and it feels great knowing that I'm definitely going to be a doctor!! :hardy:

Just wondering when your interview was? Mine was yesterday and I did not hear today...

Just wondering when your interview was? Mine was yesterday and I did not hear today...

I interviewed on November 3rd and didn't hear back until today. They didn't have my DO rec letter until a few days ago due to a problem with interfolio. They did say that a bunch of people on the committee had to go to an AOA meeting last week which put them behind on reviewing applications. :luck:

Thank you for your quick reply! Congratulations!

Is there a way around that $50K tuition? I'm very excited to know that I am granted an interview because it is my first one and probably last one. But just the thought of $50K makes me chill. I'm afraid I can't make it to the end if I were accepted.

Sorry if my question sounds stupid but is OB/GYN considered primary care or specialist? Thanks.
When I was having lunch with the current students on interview day, I asked them how many students were going into primary care, and they said that a lot of the students were going into a specialty.

Have you looked into the military? You should look into the Army National Guard ASR program, it's really nice. You get paid 50k a year for three years while you're in school, and there are so many other programs out there (70k sign on bonuses, etc)...so you will have minimal debt, if any once your done :). Best of all, unlike active duty, you can do what you want on the civilian side and only drill one weekend a month (once you're a doctor).

OB/GYN is a specialty.

Anyone know what the weather is like in Lewisburg in the winter time? I know it snows, but does the snow stay or does it come and go? Does it usually melt quickly? Do they use salt on the roads? Why I ask is because I have a modified car and I'm thinking that I might need to sell it before I move down, as I won't have the luxury of having two cars anymore.
