Having done this last January, you'd think I'd remember how registration goes...but my mind is completely blank right now. I'm trying for a very small and popular testing site, so I'm trying to register as quick as possible this year. In the meantime, I have a couple of questions that the AAMC site (predictably) is silent about.

1) Registration opens Jan. 4 -- does that mean 12:01 a.m. Eastern? I'm in Central and am heavily jetlagged right now, so if it doesn't open until around 8ish eastern I'd much rather go to sleep and wake up early...

2) Is there some sort of aamc.org registration I can do that will speed my MCAT registration? I know you have to go through what I seem to remember is a lengthy sign-up process. Trouble is, I can't seem to find any sort of site registration other than the still-closed MCAT registration itself.

Anything is appreciated. You have no idea how much I want this test site after last year. 😀

I'm wondering about this too. How long does it take to fill this application out? I'm hoping to sign up before I leave for work in the morning.

Can anyone help us? 😕

hmm...interesting....anyone know the general consensus on computer based MCATs from people that have taken it that way? I tried running a search but it was mostly of people stating that they couldn't look at a computer screen for 6 hours. Sadness.

It's early and the test site registration definitely appears to not be working: either that or a giant Mac conspiracy despite attempts in IE, Safari and Netscape. Since the site only requires SSL ability...looks broken.

Ugh this stinks that the site thing is not working. I have no idea how desirable my test site is, but I hope there is still room...I won't be back till after lunch to check again!

At 8:30 (CT) this morning I called the MCAT offices and was told that the test-site registration error was a system-wide glitch. So, no worries, no one managed to steal your favorite site before then.

I used the same registration name as last year, but had to re-register everything, including the name itself.

Around 9 I managed to get the site registration and typed in my credit card # as fast as I could -- keeping my fingers crossed for my favorite site.

Now only seven weeks until I find out where I'm taking. At least it's not as bad as waiting for scores after the exam. 🙄

so do we have to register asap? ive never done this before.

The site works for me now. Unfortunately, I don't know my parents income, or have a Visa card (only discover), so I'm waiting for later.

Which brings me to...does any of this survey crap have to be accurate? I'm not sure of my exact educational debt either, my financial aid goes back from before it was on the online system.

Yea..my old registration name doesn't work. It says the account has already been accessed?

I believe that whole second section (parent info, financial info etc etc) is optional. I actually just skipped that entire section and only filled out the primary info part.

bump.

should i go ahead and create a new user id if the old one doesn't work?

just called the MCAT office..you need to create a new user id each time you regsiter.

i got to registar and select my spots without a glitch, we'll see if i get my first choice now.

anyone know when we find out what test site we landed?

Do you have to pay when you are registrating or can you register and pay later? What if you are planning to apply for the Fee Assistance Program?
Thanks

If you do FAP you have to wait to be approved by FAP to register for the MCAT. I was going to use it, but I'd rather try for the test site now, and use FAP for AMCAS. And you pay by Mastercard, Visa, or some E-payment thing at the time of registering.

Yeah, thanks alot for this thread - I totally didn't know when I was suppose to register!!! 😱

Haha, but I am so glad I got it done on the first day!!! This is crazy, I am registered to take the MCAT!!! YIPES! 😀

Good luck studying everyone! 😍

I felt the same way. No idea a year ago I'd be taking the MCAT right now.

It is offical you guys 😉 I registered to take the MCAT today. LOL. "MCAT get ready for me to knock you down this time, sucker" lol . 👍

In the first release page, where it indicates name, address, state, social security number, undergraduate college, and MCAT scores be realsed to those requiring score choice, are they just asking for authorization to send your scores to the colleges you indicate? Or will they send them at will to any colleges that request them?

Man, me too. It's sorta scary! 😱

Anybody else have to register for a Sunday test? I'm wondering how many people will probably be there. My friend said when she took it last year in New Jersey there were like 8. I'll be in Philly...

Do we ever run outta seats for MCAT? anyone know? what's the hurry in registering so early? jus wonderin...

I think people are trying to get the best sites that have lots of table space, quiet, nice lighting, convenient location, etc.

anyone know how soon they inform us on whether we got our first choice test site?

I just dropped $200 on the MCAT. I thought it was going to be about $120 for the exam!!

I'm estimating $800 on applying DO and MD in NYC and Chicago Metro area. That's without airfare. Time to start saving money folks!

Thanks to this post to get my ass to register. I thought registration started in February. 👍

What's the deal with all the survey questions??

-Also does anyone know what to put if you are not sure if a parent is alive or deceased(haven't seen them in 15 years?)

Thats low. I've projected at least $1500 minus travel expenses. And rtmcad, I would just put nothing. It isn't important for the survey.

Bumping this because some friends of mine have just admitted they didn't know MCAT registration was available...

You don't have to register until mid-March or so, but they assign your location based on first-come, first-serve with the preferences until a place is full. So the person who picked small test site A on the first day of registration is much more likely to get it than the person who registers with it as a first choice a month later. If you're just registering now, you may want to plan your preferences accordingly.

Does it matter? Only if you want to either avoid a notorious bad site or try to get into a known very good one. Or if you're registering very late.

This isn't as obliging as the SAT, where if you only put down one preference they'll try and squeeze you in. If you only list one preference and it's full, the MCAT people will put you in the nearest empty seat in the general area. Or general state, if you're not trying to get an urban area. If both of your top choices are full, the same thing happens. They're not very nice about it, and even when they screw up (say, randomly assigning ten students from the same Boston college to place four hours away despite open seats in their preferred locations and very early registration) don't magically squeeze you in to your top location.

(Those ten students were told that even though the MCAT people had made the mistake, all they could offer them were the leftover open spots. And then they tried to charge them the transfer fee. At least they eventually waived that.)

Sadly, you won't find out which spot you're at until they send you your ticket, which is six weeks before the exam--around the end of February.

good info

👍
