Hey all. I have an interesting predicament I don't really know how to handle. I just received an invitation to interview with UCSD in February. My letter was postmarked 12/20. Here's the issue - I never completed my application to UCSD. I indicated them on my PharmCAS school selections, but never completed or paid for the secondary. So how did I get an interview?

My guess is it's a mistake on their part, but I don't know what to do. If I could actually get in there, I'd be jazzed. I never completed the secondary b/c I figured it would be too competitive as an out-of-state applicant. Do I just show up for the interview, or do I call and explain the situation? If I do, won't they just cancel it and say it was a mistake?

Any advice??

That's a little risky thought isn't it? To just go to the interview? I'm pretty sure they keep track of all the app's and if you paid or not.... what if they find out later after you've been interviewed/accepted, and they find out you didn't say anything to them ....??

Welp, on the brighter side, congrats! To be invited to an interview without completing their supplemental or paying for it, you must be an outstanding applicant! ^_^

if i were you, i would just call them to ask what the status of your application, pretending you never received the invite. UCSD only accepts 60 people. I won't waste my time going there to interview to later find you you wasted your time and they find out.

I also got an interview without completing their secondary application. I am going to the interview unless they tell me not to come. I am bit skeptical about the interview though...

If I was you, I would go to the interview, then wait for an admission decision. If they accept you, then turn in that supplemental application and fee 😀 . Of course, if I was you, I would be spending your money to travel to the school and stay in a nice hotel, too.

Taken from their site, "Applicants who have not completed the supplemental application and/or submitted the supplemental application fee will not be processed. There will be no exceptions to this policy."

Yeah you should call them up.

Thanks everyone. I called today but got voicemail, so I'll try back tomorrow. Basically I'm going to say I'd still love the chance to attend, but want to confirm my status before purchasing airfare and hotel. If my lack of secondary is indeed the problem I expect it to be, I'd rather not get my hopes up or waste their time and my $$.

I just spoke with the admissions office and here's what they said:

There was a glich in the computer system that selected interviewees (~250 in total), and 16 applicants were invited despite incomplete applications. They are currently trying to get in touch with the associate dean to figure out where to go from here. The woman I spoke to said there would probably be one of two solutions:

a) a letter would be sent to the (un)lucky 16, explaining there was an error and their application is not viable, thus rescinding the interview invitation.

b) a letter would be sent to the lucky 16, offering a chance to fill out the supplemental and pay the fee within a new deadline, in which case the application would still be considered.

The dean is on vacation, but hopefully they'll find out soon. When I find out, I'll update this thread for anyone else in my situation!

Expect a protest from myself and hopefully many others who submitted a complete application on time if scenario #2 is their decision.

Oh please. It is 16 out of 250 and they would still have to fill out the supplemental. If you deserve your spot, you'll get it. More than likely most of the 16, like myself, already self-selected away from UCSD and won't spend the time and money to attend, since their applications are already iffy. Protesting will only make you look unconfident and whiny to the admissions people. Focus on your interview, not someone else's.

does this mean that they use a computer to select who gets interviewed? maybe not like a lottery draw, but like ranking the gpas, number of prereqsl done, and volunteer hours?

i say dont waste ur time and money. UCSD Pharmacy(relatively new school) only accepts 60 people and is hard getting in as UCSF. Unless, you are above excellence, dont waste your time here.

one other thing, since they already found out you didn't bother to complete your application in the first place, you're as good as a goner.

If students have not recieved any interview invitation does that mean they have been rejected. I think that all the invitations have already been sent out to students:scared:

Hey, if you're lucky, there will be 16 more interviews scheduled in a week or so.

If interviews are granted to the 16 folks, those of us who submitted a complete application on time and are interviewed and rejected (only 1 in 4 will get in) will wonder if their spot was taken by one of the 16. This is not fair to us, who are the large majority of interviewees. The obvious thing for them to do in my opinion is to apologize to everyone, and then cancel the 16 mistaken interviews.

I have to agree that it really isn't fair to those that had complete applications--but it also sucks for the 16 that did get invites--but really--the supplemental should have been completed--I think everyone should hopefully agree on that--I wish there were enough seats for all of us to get into the schools we wanted. 🙁

Wow, so I'm wondering if they do take away the interview from those 16 people, will they open up 16 more spots? Some people might get lucky in the next week or two.

Wow... 16 eh? That seems pretty weird. Do you think they might have accidentally invited more people than they needed? It doesn't sound like many people were rejected. *shrug* but who knows... people can get lucky in the next couple weeks.

1260 people applied and 250 got an interview.

So 1000 people got rejected. Sounds like a lot to me...

Did the Dean make a decision yet?

Did the Dean make a decision yet?

"Due to an error in our admissions process this year, you were sent a letter of invitation to interview in error. You did not complete the required entire application process for UCSD Skaggs School of Pharmacy. You did not complete the online supplemental application and/or did not submit the signature page with the $60 application fee. Therefore, your invitation for an interview has been withdrawn."

Breath easy - 6.4% of your competition has been eliminated.

Thx for sharing and good luck with your applications at other schools.

I don't know if any competition is eliminated. If the target number for interviewing was 250, maybe they will notify 16 applicants to replace those invited in error.

It turns out I turned in my secondary application. How strange, I thought I didn't...well, I just need to pay the $60 and I am in for the interview 🙂
