If you have a 3.6 or above, go away!

We're going to get into med school guys, I just know it. BAM! 😍

OK commiseration time: c3.4, s3.1.
Still hoping for some good 2nd semester grades. 🙂

GOOD LUCK!! esp. to my fellow 2011-2012 applicants.

My cGPA is a 3.31 🙁

My sGPA is a 3.78 though as a biology major.

pheeww I just got out of this group with my 3.9 this semester

3.23 🙁

But I can graduate with a 3.7 if I work for it 😀

2.9, retaking a D from my drop out semester years ago, should be up in a few weeks!

sGPA: 3.3; cGPA: 3.5, Cali resident.

Aiming to hit that submit button June 1st. 😀
I look forward to going through this crazy ride with you!!!

not bad i would say your good to go

I don't know, I have a lot of red flags on my transcript from freshman and sophomore year that I'll need to explain. I never even had med school or any type of grad program on my mind back then and failed a couple easy classes.

cGPA 3.15
sGPA 3.07
Got 35's on my practice MCATs, waiting for my real score to come in on June 1st. I have about 5 years of full-time work experience with lots of volunteering and metoring/leadership stuff. I feel good about things. Texas resident.

One of my buddies had a 2.9 and got in to two Texas schools when he applied. Keep your chin up.

I'd like to see what OOS schools you guys are applying to.

Mine:
Boston
Drexel
EVMS
Jefferson
Oregon
Penn State
Temple
Colorado
Miami
Vermont
Tulane
Pittsburgh
Virginia
VA Commonwealth
Wake Forest

cGPA = 3.62 (As of 2 weeks ago.. before that it was a 3.54)
sGPA = 3.14 🙁

I just finished my sophomore year though, so I figured out if I take 11 credit hours this summer, pack my schedules for fall and spring with science classes, and I make an A in every single course...

I can pull my cGPA up to a 3.79 and my sGPA to a 3.69.

I don't know how likely that is, ha, but I'm gonna try I guess.

Good luck to you all!

2.95

I think that a low gpa party is a bad idea. It sounds like all of us have been partying too much our entire lives.

3.52 science, 2.98 overall (from bad grades in a different major before returning to school). I'm with you!

Newly accepted with a 3.14 sGPA. Hence the dancing banana.

god... I find this thread the same day I built a beer bong to celebrate the end of my first year of teaching.

cGPA: 3.44
sGPA: 3.22

Hoping my MCAT scores will swing my way (find out June 7th, hoping I pulled off a 33:xf:)

I was at a 2.93 before this semester, and now I am at 3.203. I had to work hard as hell during the spring semester (4.0 hard). I am hoping to keep this work attitude up.

I'm finishing my 2nd year teaching- it gets a LOT better. Hang in there 🙂

hilarious .

now let me say this to all of you. learn your lesson early than I did. I graduated with a 2.6 GPA that translated to an AMCAS GPA of 2.55

Two years doing a post-bacc and an SMP simultaneously with a 3.97 GPA (that's 1 B grade, 19 A's in med school and undergrad bio classes) leaves me with a second BA from State U, nearly a masters from State Med, and next to no med schools wanting anything to do with me with an AMCAS GPA of 2.97.

The more you dig that hole the more impossible it is to dig out of it. Luckily, things may work out with me at State Med, but I just graduated from one of the top state schools in the country with a 3.95 so i'm not happy still begging for a chance because of my grades 5 and 6 years ago. the philly schools wants me to do one or two more years of undergrad classes before applying - that would be college years 7 and 8 for me, and i have received an A in just about every human biology class state u has to offer. i would need to get a second major in physics or chem, or worse- take plant science classes, to make the philly private schools consider me. sad. hope this gives one of you the kick in the butt you needed

If you have a 3.97 SMP GPA, then most med schools (including mine) would consider that above all else. That is what SMP is designed for - a second chance/new start for people who have performed poorly in undergrad.

I do not see why you would have trouble getting an acceptance somewhere if you apply broadly.

I was thinking this as well. You destroyed med school classes, why should a school care anymore how you performed in undergrad?

undergrad itself is a load of crap IMO. Theres too many variables that go into undergraduate grades such as the professor, semester taken (whether or not it was in track with a pre-med incoming class), and so forth. Example: I took gen chem with a professor that was notorious at our university for being tough on students, however there were two sections of this class and the other was taught by a very "relaxed" professor. I worked my ass off for a B, while a good friend of mine had the other professor and magically received an A while somehow playing CoD all night before the exams.

I know many of you will say i could have taken it a different semester, but fact is as an incoming freshman i felt like i had so much "advice" thrown at me by advisors that i didn't really know the tricks of college until after my first year. Im an entering sophomore now and thats my opinion, and to the OP, you should definately apply, ive talked to the advisors at my school and they all say an SMP with 3.5+ would be looked upon very favorably.

I have a cGPA of 3.02 and I don't even want to calculate my sGPA.

Sophomore with a cGPA of 3.36 and sGPA of 3.67 (Damn Freshmen year lol) Nice to join the party though😛 Even though I won't be applying until 2013, good luck to everyone applying this year!:luck:

I should apologize for grouping all the medical schools in one city together - without being too specific, it was someone at Jefferson that recommended years 7 and 8 of undergrad and said most schools as a matter of fairness and principle wouldn't consider an applicant with a GPA below 3.0. If you believe that the statement "most schools simply will disregard the application of someone with a below 3.0 GPA, regardless of SMP, second bachelors, post-bacc, etc.", I hope you will respond again in confirmation of that. Thank you for your initial response

Ok, now you have me confused. You enrolled in a formal SMP program, correct? At my school, and many others, we would *mainly* look at your SMP - and maybe quickly glance at your uGPA for curiosity. Like I said before, the whole point of SMP is to give you a new chance. As long as you have proven to be capable in med-level classes - then you are admission material.

With regards to <3.0 GPA, if you had not been in SMP, then you would have been screened out in many schools. But, the SMP is a total game changer.

How did you get into a SMP with below 3.0 GPA by the way?

With a 2.6 GPA I knew I did not have a chance at an SMP, and for good reason. I did not have sufficient background in the basic sciences. I did a one year informal post-bacc and received a 3.9 GPA in all BCPM courses. Despite my GPA still being low, I used my 3.9 GPA and 33 MCAT as leverage into the SMP. I took class with MS1's my first semester of the SMP (4.0, honors), and was told by some ADCOM members that my undergrad GPA - around 2.7, was still way too low. I took a one semester leave of absence from the SMP and went back to undergrad, completing a second degree at State U getting another 4.0, getting my undergrad GPA up to 2.96. I am continuing the SMP in which I have a 4.0 this summer and will finish it in the fall

That is what Ratemyprof is for 🙄

3.38 cGPA so far. Brought it up from a 3.03 so far though and have no intention of stopping. Pretty proud of myself. 🙂

Man, I am right on the border of this club! 3.57 sGPA and cGPA. I think I have a decent shot, but it does mean some of the other stuff has be rocking. Good luck!

I did this too. Except it was engineering chem and math, instead of art & sciences.

Semi-low GPA ACCEPTED student.
cGPA: 3.58
sGPA: 3.45
32 MCAT.

Very low and also accepted MD (and NOT in the Caribbean.)

cGPA: 3.00 <-- on the dot!
sGPA: 3.35 (from 21 credits over 3 years of post-bac, would have been .3-.4 higher if not for orgo)
MCAT: 34, balanced

WUBear - I had the same experience with that school, and it was my top choice when I applied. Not friendly to low GPA despite huge class size which would allow them to swallow a hit for a couple outstanding if underachieving applicants.

3.33 cGPA 3.41 BCMP 3.61 cGPA 3.60 sGPA for DO...

I think I will be ok when I apply next summer. Re taking the MCAT in August.

I think stopping your SMP in the middle to go back to undergrad was a big mistake. At MOST, a few schools is never going to forgive you with a bad GPA. Most schools, no matter what your uGPA was, is mainly going to consider only your SMP. You should have saved the time and money and finished that SMP on track with that 4.0, and never looked back on undergrad.

With your SMP GPA and MCAT, I would have recommended you for an interview at my university. In fact, many adcoms I know loves to read an epic redemption story like yours. It demonstrates not only intellect, but "bravery" and "courageousness" (actual words used that describes these candidates) on your part.

Good luck.

cGPA 3.41
sGPA 3.27

I decided to wait until after my senior year to apply. Hoping for a cGPA of 3.5 and sGPA of 3.4 at the end of it.

Good plan. You're already going to be taking those classes anyway! 👍
