Hi all, I am about halfway through college and am afraid im shaping up to be a pretty 1D applicant. By this I mean that i feel like I have nothing exceedingly interesting to add to my app beyond some heafty amounts of research (approx 3000 hours by graduation >4 pubs). my grades are decent and I am making good progress in all of the "standard" components of a competitive app (clinical experience, research, volunteering, leadership roles). While I enjoy my work in these sections, they're all I really have to show. I am mostly concerned that I will have a hard time coming up with essay topics that dont revolve around my experience in research and therefore will end up a very forgettable app.

In terms of hobbies I enjoy tennis and played competitively in HS but nothing much else there
I wanted to start of food blog reviewing restaurants in my medium sized city but this will get p expensive and some may view it as elitist.

Should I be worried or am I over-thinking it

>4 publications definitely counts for something!
I don't think you're 1D 🙂

Figure out what's important to you personally (apart from research), and then focus on experiences that help show your commitment and passion in those areas. Very, very few applications are truly unique or stand-out, so focus on telling your story and journey.

Why not pivot towards reviewing cheap eats? Food blogging does not need to be expensive.

You're wise to consider that possibility now while there's still ample time to do something about it! --
Service to others less fortunate than yourself will probably be your highest yield addition.

Does Yelp reviewing ever count as a hobby if one does it regularly? haha...

Get out of the lab.
Get off of campus and out of your comfort zone
Engage in service to others less fortunate than yourself.
