someone please help me with this:

Last year when I had my NOVA interview in Florida- after my interview,
they took us to this room to have lunch and the guy telling us how wonderful NOVA was (which btw it was! and i got accepted there), he asked all of us how many layers we think the normal eye has.
everyone made a guess and we all got it wrong.
we were told that the eye has 10 layers!

that still haunts me, is that true? 😕
can someone please tell me what the 10 layers of the eyes are?

Inner Limiting Membrane
Nerve Fiber Layer
Ganglion Cell Layer
Inner Plexiform Layer
Inner Nuclear Layer
Outer Plexiform Layer
Outer Nuclear Layer
Inner and Outer Segments of Photoreceptors
Retinal Pigment Epithelium
Choroid

there are three major layers... but yes, the retina has 10 layers.

and...just curious:

which of those layers can you see under the slit lamp when you examine the eye?

You can actually see the retina under slit lamp exam . and as per the retina layer , the choroid is not included , it's actually the external limiting membrane btw the photoreceptor layer & the outer plexiform layer . Keep this in mind.

it's hard to discern layers with the slit lamp (or BIO)... there are ways of telling whether something is in the RPE or choroid with a red-free filter when examining the back of the eye. but as far as knowing what's in the inner and outer nuclear layer, etc... it can't be seen with the slit lamp. (too small)
