1st interview!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
wow, congrats. did they even get your USMLE transcript yet?

Interview invite a minute earlier than USMLE retrieved, which is weird, but probably an ERAS timing glitch. I'm assuming I was part of an "Interview Filter" where above a certain Step score gets you an interview, no one actually human laid eyes on my app.

Congrats! A classmate received an OB/GYN interview invite today as well (though I don't know from which program). It looks like some programs/specialities are moving quickly.

They were letters of intent to rank me first. They said they don't even need to interview me.

Wouldn't be sure to trust that. I have PD's trying to schedule a time when they can come to my house and cook me dinner while being interviewed by me. A letter is so impersonal.

I wish I could be like you guys

Would be nice to have a sense of the credentials of those of you who've started hearing already.

a friend of mine got an anesthesiology interview yesterday, he's a 260/honors in everything/AOA guy. Another got an invite for peds with a mid-230s Step, decent grades, no major ECs as far as I know.

I'm a fairly average urology applicant (~250, a few honors/mostly high pass, a few publications). Not sure why I got an interview, seems kind of random.

Are we still kidding?

Ok how are people going about scheduling interviews? Just got my first one but have no idea how to set up my interview schedule.

I received my first IM interview invite this morning, too. Very average student overall, but honored inpatient and ambulatory IM.

Wasn't expecting anything this soon!

I haven't gotten any interviews yet..... I feel like it's just me. Worry is starting to set in a little.

Tell me you are kidding me. Please.

I have had THREE DAYS to look at applications. I have over 2000 applications to look at (that's not fair, not every application is complete). In fact, we didn't have any USMLE scores for US grads until later on Monday, so really I've had two days.

Two days. And you wonder that you don't have any interviews yet.

Take a deep breath. Don't panic. Have mercy on my soul. Just because some random people are posting that they got an interview or two, it's insane to think that somehow you're a bad applicant or have made some grevious mistake.

Diagnosis: Severe application anxiety.
Treatment plan: You are not allowed to look at SDN for 2 weeks. I am not kidding. It will be good for you.

Hey aPD, I totally understand what you are trying to say.

I am curious though... do you have committee meetings to decide whether or not to grant interviews? Or is that solely decided by you and your associate PDs? I know what is true for your program, may not be the case for others. I am still curious though.

Thanks for that. I do appreciate it. We've come so far, and it's this last step. And it's now in the hands of strangers to judge our fate. So as you know, it's a mental minefield. But you're right, SDN is seriously unhealthy this time of year. I'll take your advice.

woohoo two so far for gen surg yippe!
credential wise? well im not even us allopathic senior, so hopefully ill match this time ! (prelim)

I feel kind of sentimental about my first interview invite. Almost to the point that where, no matter how many more invites I get and no matter how much more desirable those other invites may be, I'll probably still go on that first one, simply because they were the first!

This is a "paranoid" question, but honestly, I can't get this out of my head, and hoping aProg or someone can e-slap me some sense.

So, got an interview invite Wed, but didn't check my e-mail until late afternoon today. I figured it was a little after 5, and decided to just wait to call tommorow morning to set it up. But, part of me is thinking "Oh ****, I wish I check my email more often, because the invites might be sent to a lot of people, and I just screwed myself...".

Basically, is it a major problem if I wait 2 days to respond to an interview invite that was sent?

/cue eyerolls and sighs from people

SMACK! Did that help?

At this time in the application season, I doubt you will have a problem. It's early and unlikely that programs have offered more interviews than slots available. Later in the season, it can definitely be a problem.

Hi aPD, quick question for you- do you have a sense for the proportion of invites granted on an "automagic" basis (ie. high Step 1 + AOA + x # of honors = invite) versus how many are granted after a more thorough comparison with other applicants?
