1st Year Computer Dilemma

Unless you REALLY want a tablet I'd say just stick with the mac since that's what your used to.

Had several students in my class that used tablets to annotate powerpoint notes but it certainly wasn't a problem not having one. Honestly, while it think it's "neat" for a while I have just not been overly impressed with any tablet I've played with (crappy battery life, not portable enough, etc..) so far.

I can type much faster than I write so if I had to take notes I just typed them. The only advantage a tablet would have is to be able to draw and I never really needed to do that. The limited notes I took were either some typed text on a powerpoint slide, or highlighting/hand written notes in my textbook.

This old style of Tablet is a dying breed of computers.

The new tablets, iPad, Xoom ec.t is where computing is going.

The new Mac Book Air is sweet. They come in 11 and 13.

Gives you more of the PC feel than a tablet with its track pad, keyboard and ability to run Fusion or Parallels, is small and light weight, has the mini display port so you can hook it up to projectors ect. (need appropriate cables).

Although the New MBPs are sweet and Lion is coming out this summer...

The only tablet that has interested me thus far is the ASUS EEE Slate that was recently released. For me though the 3.5 hour battery life just seems like it'd be too much of an issue. 3.5 hours to start will degrade over time, etc. Not sure that something such as an ipad would work either, heard that even with the stylus your hand causes issues while taking notes.

I think I'll stick to pen and paper for now, maybe get an ipad down the road for entertainment value but for now it seems that its pretty worthless for notes.

For just taking notes I'm pretty excited about this thing:
www.noteslate.com

If it turns out to be anything like the concept, its going to be awesome.

im a tablet proponent. Its awesome being paperless. Instead of carrying around 3-5 books I only carry one and my laptop.

I was never big on going over power points. I would hand write my notes and read the books.

The asus eee slate does look awesome and I have heard great things about it. The battery life does suck but other than that the thing seems like a champ.

My tablet is just as portable as any other laptop.
