I am finished with my long vacation before dental school.🙂 Could someone be kind enough to tell me what books they used in their first year of dental school? (need not be Colorado) I will be going to Colorado, but our textbooks are on DVD and not available till later. I just wish to study EFFICIENTLY before the start of dental school. Thanks.

I go to CU and you will never use any books except I did for dental morph and some anatomy. Vital source is a colossal waste of money but you still have to buy it. Everything you need to know is on powerpoints and handouts that are provided.

is it not necessary to read text books?

No?

Frankly, I wonder if we will also learn operative dentistry with the aids of those powerpoint slides!! The reason I am asking this is because I think it's almost impossible to read all those things in any dental text books. At least, reading more than thrice seems so~~ impossible! They may also contain lots of unimportant (or distractive) things, too!! 😱

Plus, I am now very curious about the way we learn dental procedures..(Chronological order, semesters distributed, amount of slides or thickness of text books, where and when we start to learn them, in one word..how those courses are organized throughout dental school yrs step by step..)

Enjoy your summer and mentally prepare yourself for a lot of studying. It wouldn't be that useful if you started preparing now since you don't know the style of teaching yet. It's so different from undergrad. Once the semester starts make sure you keep up with the material and don't fall behind. This way you should be fine. Btw, don't worry too much about getting books yet. I'm glad I didn't by every single book. In some classes I didn't even find time to read the text books that were assigned. Ask your upper class men about what you need and what you don't need.

My uni gave us a list of RECOMMENDED BOOKS. We were all excited about dentistry so we purchased all the books. However, we ended up using barely 1 of them. 😡

You won't really be able to study "Effectively" until you know how the classes will be taught. Why not just get started studying for Boards? You'll be familiarizing yourself with the high points of your first year classes anyways.
