i seriously under-applied for prelim years. i'm thinking about dropping the programs that don't have an affiliated prelim year though. not sure i'm too big on the idea of doing an intern year one place, then moving again to start my "real" residency. 😕

FYI george washington and boston medical don't require you to interview separately.

i did 9 or 10 medicine prelims and 5 transitionals... have heard from most of the prelims and the 2 less favorable TY's. reaalllllly hoping i won't need/want any of 'em but i did apply to 5 234's w/ offers from 3.

I've heard that transitionals/prelims have a delayed application cycle anyways, so applying or adding on some programs late in the game shouldn't be a problem...

applied to four prelims and 8 tys. only gonna interview at 2 prelims, and any ty's that i can get. i got 2/8 so far

Really? So, if you're scheduled for a categorical then you don't have to worry about the prelim year?

that's right. gw's medicine prelim invite says it in the email and nancy connor told me they'd be sending out a letter about it for boston medical.

Okay. I didn't realize that. I guess I should've asked about that.

NONE> 😀

I applied to a couple of 2-4 in the NYC area. After interviewing at Linlcon, I realized there wasn't a chance in hell that I would do a 2-4, I didn't want to waste a year doing a prelim, only to be a pgy2 and still be treated like an intern.

Having said that, a friend of mine ranked licoln second and didn'dt do any transitional/ prelims. He figured he would just scramble. Especially as he interviewed at a number of 1-3 and 1-4's.

I haven't gotten that letter yet from nancy... Did you get it? I got a prelim interview at boston med center and scheduled it, but I guess I'll hold on to that interview until I get confirmation that it's an automatic match for the EM matches. That's the case right?????

i have not received the letter either but that is what she told me when i scheduled my interview. we were kind of chatting since i rotated there - maybe that's why she remembered to mention it. i would probably call her to make sure... but she definitely told me that if they rank you then medicine will too, w/o a separate interview.

also fyi on boston medical - it's tough to take public transportation to the hospital. i'd stay close by even though it costs more. the hampton inn is pretty new, and is within walking distance for sure. roundhouse is a bit further but still reasonable. that hotel is a converted silo or something like it, literally is a big round bldg.
