20 year old

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I CANT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE FACT THAT I ALREADY APPLIED. I'VE ALREADY PAID FOR THE APPLICATION AND I DO HAVE OTHER STRONG EC's. Why does it bother you so much? It has no impact on your life.

Besides, You know ONE aspect of my application. With respect to that topic, it has already been answered... I said I was going to take a chance, BECAUSE AT THIS POINT I HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE, and because I personally believe I have some hope.

You don't even know me to assess my maturity level, nor my capabilities.
You're just bitter, or simply frustrated, like you said. Stop worrying about MY clinical experience and work on your common sense/manners, that should've developed in the 15 years you seem to have on me.

AdComs only need ONE reason to reject you. Your application is deficient in a way that probably 95% of other applications aren't. People with better apps than you (and all of us) don't get in every year. How are you going to compete with everyone with basically an incomplete application?

See post #42. Perhaps TPM feels differently, but I don't think what the MSAR and the website have as far as selection factors go is all that conflicting. This argument is a touch nitpicky at best.

Yeah totally agree, I should have clarified that my comment about MSAR not always being accurate isn't just for this particular situation. More of a don't trust the MSAR blindly without using other resources including the school itself. I've seen several cases of conflicting information or policies that aren't followed as closely as the MSAR would have applicants believe. I still think it's a great resource, but like all resources, use more than one and if someone really really loves a school they should talk to someone there and find out how to strengthen their app.

I also realize she doesn't meet the requirements. I pasted the school info so anyone else reading this would have that info as well.

Well yes, but I have already gone through the process i.e. getting strong letters of rec, writing personal statement, filling in extracurriculars, etc.

I took as much out of all of your opinions as I could. I am not "pi$$ed", and if it seemed though I was, remember it is difficult to convey multiple tones through this media. Albeit, it hasn't been difficult to convey belittling, but it's cool. 🙂

I have learned a lot from this thread, and I'm sure we can all agree it has been longer than it should have been. 13 more days until my MCAT, and then lots of clinical experience 🙂 Good luck to those applying this cycle ! Thanks guys!

Just so you know (and I know this from experience), many schools won't even look at your "strong letters" unless they love your primary. Reading all those letters is time consuming, they won't do it unless they love you.

Example: I had a LOR from the Chair of Family Med. at U of Michigan Medical School. UMich didn't even open it (or any of my other letters).

i had a pretty good app. but i hadn't done much research. 6 months of in a social psychology study, and had taken the august 4th mcat last year. these are my short comings. everything else i think is very good.

i also applied without a totally well rounded application because i knew i really don't have any interest in research in the future. however, doing research for a physician is optional, so i can do that. but for you, seeing patients is kind of not optional for a physician. this is why i think clinical stuff is more important than research.

overall, i got into 2 schools out of 20. luckily one of them was my first choice. i am incredibly lucky.

since the ball is already rolling for you. do your best. i hope you beat the odds.

BTW, isn't there a mod somewhere that can move this thread out of non-trad forum? This clearly isn't non-trad!!!
There most certainly is a mod who can move off-topic threads out of the forum; however, since nontrads are self-identified and not age-dependent, this thread doesn't fall into that category. Please see the sticky explaining the purpose of this forum at the top of the page.

I'd also humbly suggest that older nontrads, who are rightly concerned about being judged by their age, should be the last ones to judge younger nontrads by that criterion.

Thanks for this.

As a "young nontrad" I kind of resent the bad vibes the "older nontrads" have been dishing out. I graduated early to save money. I am not a four-year BA/S student, who applied right after undergrad, therefore I'm not a traditional student. Different strokes, guys. I'm doing an MS program this year, working as a medical scribe, and applying now. It's not the most unusual path, but it's certainly not a traditional one.

Not all of us are "childishly rushing things," so please don't make sweeping generalizations. I entered with a semester of credits, and completed a second semester by doing summer courses.

Honestly, the concept of nontrads being divided and opposed to each other reminds me of the news articles that came out after the Prop 8 stuff, about how it was mostly a result of minorities being against the rights of another minority. Just doesn't make sense to me.

My mistake. I thought non-trad means having somewhat of a break from school, and then decide to go back to school vs. someone who has always been going to school w/ no gap. I'll go read the sticky again.

As an 'older' non-trad I have no issue with younger non-trads.

I believe that there is a lot to be offered by this forum and those that want to listen and contribute (ie sisterdisco) are more than welcome.

Just my $0.02 worth

As someone who has read a lot of articles against prop 8 from various different gender/races/sexual preferences, it's not the same. Not the same at. all. In fact, let's just not even go there because the last thing we need is for this thread to crash and burn.

Obviously it's not the same--it's probably one billionth as severe/significant/whatever. I meant that it's reminiscent in structure.
