2006 HMS NP Waitlist Thread

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.

That's a little surprising, especially since their yield for waitlist is 40-60% (about 25 people) but nobody has responded on SDN. Don't know why they are giving different info to us but I can name the specific person I talked with.

Well since the waitlist is so small, its not surprising that they could take a few people off w/out anyone posting on SDN. May be they had a high yield this year? Too bad but nothing we can do about it...

hi everyone,

i hope you are all doing well...this waitlist can drive you nuts, i know...

so last year, i was one of the few people who got off the waitlist and posted on sdn...don't judge waitlist movement by this thread. i know...who wouldn't be on sdn, right??? but, there are several of folks in my class who got off the waitlist...jees, where were they??? i sure could have used some company on sdn!!!

anyway, good luck! don't give up, but try not to be obsessed. i hope they get moving and let you all know asap.

hey...looking back at my old posts, i got in June 28 or 29. i previously stated that it was the third week of june...

so hang on!!!

Can anyone else call up HMS about this and post on SDN? It would be nice to get a third opinion. Ask whether they have already contacted people on the waitlist. It's kinda annoying that they aren't giving us the same info, although we did talk with them about 1 week in between.

Thanks a lot BozoSparky. That was really encouraging. I called recently, and the guy I spoke with told me the waitlist would probably start moving by the end of June. However, when I called again, I spoke with a lady who told me they had not started accepting people off the waitlist yet, and that they would probably start in July. Given my tendency to be HIGHLY optimistic about things no matter what, I think I'd prefer to go with the guy's report. Thanks again.

To everyone - hang in there. The wait will hopefully come to an end sooner than we all expect. 🙂

Wow, seems like they are giving plenty of disinformation. Well, good luck to you all and hopefully we will all get off the the waitlist. 🙂

Signing off in Paris...

Cheers to that...

Okay guys, here's what's new. I called HMS today, and the guy I spoke with (he's probably the same guy I spoke with the first time) said they had accepted some people off the waitlist. He went on to say that if I anyone got off the waitlist, the person would know before he did. In other words, members of the committee probably would contact the person first before going on to do the paper work. So, I guess we should all keep our fingers crossed, and see what happens.

P.S. If anyone gets off the waitlist, please let us know as promptly as you can. Thanks. 🙂

bump...anyone hear anything?

Anything guys? I have been quietly hoping for all of you..

nothing here...the wait is killing me...at this point I just want one of us to hear something!

Kudos for being on it. HMS was the only school that rejected me after interview

At this point, I would assume that the info we've received regarding people already being accepted is probably true and that this year, they probably had an abnormally high yield. Last year, they heard back on the 27th, and even on the 20th on whether they were still interested in the school. So, I guess we should let it go...

I've come to this conclusion as well...

You guys all rock for being on it. Anyway, my friend got rejected to HMS, turned down for a residency there. Now is a professor at HMS. Just keep on trying. If you guys got this close, you are in the zone.

thanks, akaz.

Unfortunately, you're probably right at this point...

If anyone has any information at all (especially if anyone has been accepted off of the waitlist), we would all be so grateful if you could post...

I am trying to remain a little optimistic. Judging from the number of different replies that each of us have heard from the Admissions office, it seems that the front office may not be "informed" on the happenings of the waitlist. One of my mentors -- who is a former faculty member at HMS and former member of the admissions committee -- confirmed that most waitlist work is done without the front office (at least when he was there..). I've talked to a male member of the office (who I assume is the same male that most of you have spoken too), and he seems to be the most negative about chances of waitlist acceptances. I have also talked to two females (distinctly different voices) who both told me that the bulk of waitlist movement would be end of June through middle of July. I'll keep hope for a couple more weeks -- it can't hurt. Regardless, we should be pretty proud of just making the waitlist for HMS -- not many people do.. :luck: :luck: :luck:

You guys are awesome for being on it. Remember there are alot more residency slots there. If you are good enough to get this close, apply for residency there.

We are definitely on the same page on this one. Cheers.

To everyone: Happy 4th of July. 🙂

FYI, I was on the NP waitlist and I officially got off it two days ago (call from admissions office). 🙂 Good luck to all of you!

They called you on the weekend?

They called and left a message on the 30th and then I called them back...so I guess it was three days ago, not two.

Congrats, Top! Hopefully your post will be the first of many on this thread 🙂 Was it Dean Mayer that called or an Admissions office staff person? Do you plan on taking the position?

I say congrats too.

Congrats Top! If you don't mind my asking, what school were you planning on attending before hearing from Harvard?

Yes, Congrats!

thanks guys...it's been really exciting the last couple days! i was called by the director of admissions (not the dean), who was exceptionally nice.

congrats! Have fun in the beautiful city of boston. Hope the rest of y'all hear soon too!

Top...did they give you a deadline by which to accept or decline the offer? Just in case anyone turns them down, may be they'll make a few more offers around that time...

Seems to me that at this point they're probably done, but hopefully I'll be proven wrong.

Any more news? Anyone called HMS recently?

No more news here. I wish I could just let it go, but alas, I am still holding on to that last shred of hope.

TOP: Did you receive that email described in passed years from the admissions office asking if you are still interested in going to Harvard, or did they just call you out of the blue?

Yeah they did -- the deadline was July 7.

I responded to your PM -- to others, I hadn't received anything from them in any form until the phone call.

No one has posted anything for a long time now, so I thought I should break the silence. Has anyone heard anything new?

Yea just crickets here as well. Anyone heard anything new recently? I've pretty much given up, but I'm just curious...

I called HMS today and had the opportunity to speak with the Director of Admissions (the person who makes the calls for the waitlist). She informed me that this year's yield was the highest since she had been there. They were only able to offer several waitlist offers, which is significantly less than in past years. The class is currently full and the only possible chance of a waitlist offer is a last minute deferral which is very unlikely (all of the accepted students are no longer holding waitlist positions at other schools). At least we can have a little bit of closure to our summer before the craziness of medical school begins. We can all be proud because not many people make it onto the HMS waitlist. Good luck and perhaps we will see eachother in 4 years for residency at HMS.

that's a shame for those on the waitlist, but I'm sure the admission committee is giddy that their yield was incredible. Its probably impossible to turn down an offer from HMS. Maybe this means that they'll get around to starting this year's cycle, let's see that secondary!

Fare thee well Fair Harvard. Thanks for being the only school to take the initiative in interviewing me and then save my butt when all other med schools failed to pay attention to my application.

no, I meant to say that I have moved on.
