Hey CanI and super! Good to see you're still around here. :luck: with your finals, I'm sure you'll do great! ECU was good, but I think I'm going to be settling in for a long wait. 's okay, I'm a pro at waiting!

Two weeks from today MCAT scores will be released. . . maybe then I'll hear from Wake and Carolina. I'll let you guys know, maybe we can meet each other.

Good luck to those of you interviewing at Wake today. :luck:
oooooo MCAT scores..... Sally, we should have an MCAT party! or funeral 🙁

I'll bring the champagne!!! 😀

... or whiskey 😡

:meanie:

I hope it's party for both of us, Bust.

Hey pithlit, you got to be initiated here, even if you already have an acceptance to Carolina. The NC thread peeps have tequilla and cheesecake, not champagne! 😛 It's a tradition from last year's thread.

But if you want to have champagne in addition to the tequilla and cheesecake, that's okay. 😉

Oh... I really don't like tequilla. 👎

On the other hand, cheesecake is delicious! 👍

I may have to bring my own drink to this fiesta, but I'll definetly pitch in for the cheesecake! 😛

Me neither, but I didn't make it to any of the meetups last year, so it was okay. I'm more of a strawberry daquiri kind of girl. 😉

We even had a poll last year about which flavors of Cheesecake Factory cheesecake we should get. Their website makes you hungry, but those cheesecakes are expensive!

We've gotta have a celebration party in the spring when we all get acceptances. 😀

So... we should get registered user to bring over his blender (I personally don't have one 🙁 ) and celebrate!

I definetly agree with this idea! It would be great to meet you guys! 🙂

Plus, then we could all know each other as the OCD students of the med school world! That would be especially great for forming study groups! 😀

... 😱

I keep forgetting that med school will be a lot of work... 🙄

I know. When everyone from last year's thread started school this fall, it was kind of surprising to think about how hard some of the classes are. We worry so much about MCATs, applying, getting interviews, waiting for news of acceptance, waitlist or something worse, and are so relieved to get in somewhere that you forget how hard med school is supposed to be.

But it's an incredible journey, and we all will share the same ups and downs, especially if we end up in the same classes. I can't wait to begin. 😀

Sorry to hear that, TLCoolJack. I'm betting you will do well on Regular Admission. Just hang loose and good luck.

Well lets get an update! How did those interviews go guys?

Yes, how were the interviews? Now that the server is finally back up!

Just got a Duke interview...via email.

I think I was complete sometime late September...they never really sent me anything. One day my status on the application site just changed to "Screening in Progress."

Now I have to schedule the interview on the website. I'll update the interview page when I get things in place.

Yay I got one today too!

Wake: Super low key. Very organized. Didn't mind the 3 15-minute interviews set up. Very impressed overall. 👍
Car broke down on the way home. 👎

UNC: Not as low key but not really stressful either. My committee member hadn't looked at my file before the interview. Hopefully she wanted a "fresh perspective". Not too worried about that b/c at the end she said something like "I can't make any promises, but. . ."
The rest of the day was very unorganized and unimpressive. Honestly, if I hadn't spent all summer there in MED and knew the school really well, I would have been like WTF. Neither of the Deans of Admission were there, the finaid people weren't there and the students who normally give tours weren't there. The tour consisted of "here's the library, here's the new lecture hall, and lets walk around some more."

Anyway, the interviews are over and now all I can do is wait.

Count me in for an ECU interview, just called and scheduled for the 28th. Now if wake or carolina would show some love I'd be resting alot easier.

Wake: The med school itself seemed nice. Anatomy lab nice, use of technology nice. Surrounding area, not fantastic, but doable.

UNC: First interviewer was a bit more stressful, second interview not at all. As registereduser said, the tour left something to be desired. Either it's because it was early in the season and they haven't ironed everything out, or because they figure people that want to go to UNC don't really need a tour to sell them. Such as myself. Let me in.

Ahh the waiting game.

Am I the only in stater non August Mcater without an interview ? Do they send out rejections in a hasty manner or do they wait until spring?

My first interview felt kind of uncomfortable as well, but it turned out well I guess... who did you have? Mine was Dr. Cefalo, and then my adcom interviewer was Dr. Zdanski.

I edited my list above with roboyce's info. I think I copied the list from the wrong page. 😳

Sorry to hear you're still waiting, Bob. But I don't think UNC rejected anyone until all the secondaries had gone out last year, and I think they kept sending them until Dec/Jan? Not too sure about that, though.

Maybe no news is good news? It's hard when several people here have gotten UNC interviews, but we just have to wait. Did you apply to ECU as well?

MCAT scores come out in about 5/6 days. Maybe then Bust and I will be getting some more love. 😎

Hang in there, guys! The waiting is just beginning, and it will last until rejections are mailed out to those who had interviews in late April/early May. After that, if you are waitlisted the wait will endure until the first week of classes. 🙁

What doesn't kill us makes us stronger. :luck:

Does anyone know if Wake is rolling or not?

Hahaha, good guess. How'd you know? I didn't know which one was you until you mentioned the MED program. At least we found our cars...

Yeah I had Dr. Cefalo, too. I really couldn't get a read on him during the interview. We joked around some, but there were a couple questions I could have answered better and he said I was really nervous (no kidding?) So who knows? I think he was actually my admissions committee member, and I had a different faculty member.

Hah! I had kind of figured you had Cefalo from the description you gave!

Did he ask you a lot of really weird hard questions? For example:

Who was the man that Oddyseus entrusted his son to while he was away at war?

Who was the mother of Hercules?

What do you know about Romans 8?

He told me that I had to email him back an answer to the last two because he was so dissapointed I didn't know them... but I think he really was just trying to see how I would handle a stressful situation. Anyway, I don't think he was a bad guy. He was actually real nice to me on the way back to the waiting room, so maybe he was sorry for grilling me.... but I doubt it. 🙄

I remembered you saying you were applying during your year off. And you talked about being at Wake the day before. Other than that I just kinda guessed, but I was pretty sure. Nice to meetcha. Oh yeah, damn fine work on the MCAT. I also got an M for the WS. Did you take it in April?

Yes 😡 What am I, illiterate? What a joke. What's the point of the writing section, anyway? They should be able to tell if you communicate well from your secondaries and your interview. Sorry, just a pet peeve.

Haha yeah, a few. It started out with him saying "So you're here for your dental school interview, right?" And I told him, "No, actually, pharmacy." He seemed to appreciate that, so that was good.

But then his next question was, who was your OB/GYN? Haha he also seemed disappointed that I didn't know, so I found out who it was and emailed him back. Though I didn't have one, it was a FP doc, anyway, so the joke's on him. 🙂

Not too many odd questions. What's wrong with healthcare? (So many choices, I just talked about 2, I think. This could have gone on awhile, but my impression was that he just wanted to see I was basically aware, though I could be wrong). Last book I read, last movie. Then he asked what the themes of the movie were (Master and Commander, so that was odd). Then at the end he asked what I would do over in the interview.

Then walking out the door, he was like "At least I can tell your dad your shoes were shined (he was Navy and my dad was AF), but the rest of it was horrible." That initially scared the **** out of me, but in retrospect, if it were truly horrible, I doubt he wouldn't have actually said that, so I'm hoping that was also a joke.

He was a nice guy, though. He seems like he'd be cool to interact with outside the weird power dynamics of the interview setting.

I wonder how long it will take to hear back. They said 6-8 weeks, but we were in the 2nd interview day for regular decision, so I wonder if it will take that long?

The way I see it, the writing section serves no real point at all.

Yeah, the writing section is just ******ed. The funny thing is I remember being pretty sure I did well on that section when I left at the end of the day and not being too sure about how I did on the other sections. Just goes to show you can never really tell how you did on things. That can go for interviews as well. I felt good about all my interviews, but I don't think the adcoms give a crap how I felt about it 😉

Wow, WholeLottaGame, that sounds kind of scary. My adcom interview last year was with Cefalo, but it was the second time they'd changed interviewers on me, (once when I called to confirm I was coming to interview the Friday before, and once that morning when I was supposed to interview with Dr. Hoole, but they changed it to someone else). I got the impression that since he was a last-minute change, he was busy and rushed . It seemed like he spent the entire time reading questions from his paper and writing down answers and hardly looked at me at all. The entire interview lasted about 15 minutes.

Isn't it funny how different the interviews can be? My second interview was with a faculty member, and she really made me feel stressed out. I think I handled it well, but obviously I didn't get in. This was in late January of this year. This interview was very very stressful, and I had to try very hard not to cry. 😳 Which is a lot to say, because I don't cry at anything.

So my two bad interviews last year were probably responsible for my rejection. I've heard similar stories from other people who have applied to UNC in the past, even as far back as 10 years ago. It's the luck of the draw, when you interview, what kind of a day your interviewer is having, and even which person you get for an interviewer. I hope you guys all have great experiences this year!

So the whole thing about calling Wake to schedule your own interview instead of waiting for them to contact you, it's the absolute truth. I just called up and asked some random question about my application and the lady asked if I wanted to schedule an interview...Nov. 15th for me. I went out and bought a suit to celebrate.

Helpful hint for the guys here, Jos A. Banks is having a monster sale, I saved about 200 bucks, so if you need a suit drop by and see what they've got.

So I interviewed at Wake the other day and it wasn't bad at all! Actually a pretty fun day! (Certainly seems better than those UNC interviews!) You don't actually get interviewed until the very end of the day, so I felt really relaxed and comfortable by the time that rolled around. The med students I met were all really laid back and seemed happy, so that was good to see. I was surprised to not get any ethical questions, which was all I was expecting from the interview feedback. My first two interviews were just like conversations about my major (business) and how I plan to use that in medicine, and then my last one was just your typical interview questions (strengths, weaknesses, where I see myself in 10 years, etc). So don't worry about Wake interviews too much! So awesome that you find out so soon too... anxiously waiting....

how were those mcats guys?

What's up with UNC? There has been no word on our thread about any new interview invites for over 3 weeks. Has the activity stopped.... or are we just not part of the group receiving invitations? Anybody know what's going on in Chapel Hill?

I think my interview killed their faith in the future of humanity, and they decided to fill their remaining slots with bonobo monkeys.

Hey guys,

I interviewed at UNC this past Tuesday...there were only 4 of us for the whole day, and I was contacted for an interview only last Thursday (only turned in secondary last monday). All students were from NC and upper-tier colleges and were applying places like HArvard, JHU, ect. I felt like the idiot of the bunch, haha. Anyway, my theory is maybe they are going to interview all the well-well qualified in-staters and accept them to get an idea of what their class will look like, just my thoughts.

Congrats, bust! I'm really happy for you!

No, I didn't get good news. I went down two points. Very disappointed. I don't think I'll be interviewing at UNC this year. I had such high hopes for this cycle, too.

Good luck to the rest of you! Early interviews are good signs at UNC! :luck:

So what did you get?????????? Congrats for the score increase. :luck: with the application cycle.

Sally, hope you still hear good news from the office this cycle. :luck:

Bust, I had a good feeling about it when we talked yesterday, it must've had something to do with the Immuno book you were hauling around. Congrats!

Thanks, that's sweet. I still want to meet you guys from last year's thread sometime. I was hoping to meet some of you when I interview at UNC this year, but I don't know if that's gonna happen now, with my new 22. 😱 I definitely had a bad day on MCAT day. Now I'm wishing I'd written the AAMC and requested that non-standard conditions be noted on my results. The air conditioning went out and we were on the 4th floor and it was over 90 degrees F! I could hardly think. 😡

Sally,

I'm sorry things didn't work out, but wanted to tell you to keep your chin up and good luck with whatever you decide to do.

To everyone else,

So who's got acceptance letters today????? 😛

GOOD LUCK to you all waiting for your acceptances.
