Yeah, well no one seems to care that I got waitlisted Saturday, if I get in we can hold the auction for my UNC acceptance here on SDN. Start the bidding at $130K, or the extra money I'd be paying to go to Duke over UNC..... 😱 😱 😱

Bamf and UNC, I hope ya'll get off the waitlist eventually. I personally won't know whether I've been waitlisted or rejected until the weekend when I return to Toledo. Anyways, does anyone know how active Duke's waitlist is? If the rumor is true that they accept ~220 for a class of ~100, how many people on the waitlist actually have a shot of getting in? Is it ranked or just based on interest?

I'm gonna be all kinds of hypothetical here. . . what would you do if you were offered the following:
1) UNC-CH acceptance with a substantial scholarship (say, you'd end up only having to pay for food + incidentals + fun)
2) Duke acceptance with only what the Duke grant would give you after what they expect your parental contribution to be (say, you'd end up having to get loans for $40k/year)

Thoughts?

Definitely UNC even without scholarship!! With your M.D degree from UNC, you can do or go wherever you want!

I was told last week that they haven't begun the scholarship review process; as for fin aid, I also submitted my FAFSA early and haven't heard anything back. Not sure if they have a 2nd look weekend.

They have a second look weekend sometime in April for sure. My interviewer was going to call me back about exact dates.

Thanks for the congrats! My interview day went very well, and I will definately have a difficult decision to make, no matter how the next few weeks play out. I was born in Durham, my father trained at Duke, my mother finished a DrPH at UNC, so the way things have turned out are kind of funny. The faculty involvement and frendliness of everyone at UNC was amazing, but Duke has a great research/dual degree component built into their curriculum. We'll see how the second look weekends go.

While I too would have rather heard from UNC yesterday, don't feel depressed about it. I believe that the recommended date to have offered at least as many acceptances as seats in the class is March 30. This is according to the AAMC website. So, I did not really expect yesterday to be any bigger than the other adcom meetings. We still have a few weeks! Good luck!

I am almost clinically depressed about this whole thing - waitlisted at two out of state schools where even if I got in, it would be a hell for me to move there and attend school. And nothing from UNC, ECU yet. I am many years older than most of you guys. With one kid and another on the way, I don't know how I can re-take MCAT and go through this process all over again. I don't mean to whine though. I have no one else to blame but myself if I don't get in. Trying to stay positive is not an easy thing to do if you were in my shoes.

No DEG I feel for you.... I actually feel for most people on this thread. There is still some hope as JW said..... I dont now how old you are but I am feeling old, I turn 24 in 2 months and feel like I am just wasting my life right now, waiting for each day to pass, working in a lab hopeing for news that just never comes. I think I am also clinicially depressed and my gf thinks I am crazy 🙁

And the real kicker is that I finally found out why I have been unsuccessful two cycles in a row.... and trust me its a doozy!

Hang in there, it is not over yet. It will be difficult to reapply, but if that is what must be done, that is what must be done. I am in a similar situation admissions-wise, waiting to hear from UNC and ECU but no waitlists anywhere. I don't have any children, but I too am older than most on here. It is not easy to stay positive, but it is imperative that we do! We'll see what happens with chapel hill and greenville, and then we will do what it takes after that!

ok Bob I'm back...haha...yeah the whole thing sucks...I'm really rooting for you guys without acceptances yet, you need it more than me. I'm kind of ready to see another part of the country anyway, so the UNC acceptance wouldn't do that much for me except make my parents mad at me if I chose somewhere else....that being said, if I got one I might decide that saving money is worth it...I think there is still time...I don't even think they've looked at most of our files more than once. You guys mind if I pull a seat up to the "older applicant" pitty party as well? I've been away from the thread for awhile, checking in from time to time. Currently I'm traveling in Central America (life's rough, I know) having a real hard time geting UNC out of my head. I skipped town because I was tired of the lab work, a little frustrated at UNC for dragging ass, and determined not to spend my days idle as UNC deliberated my fate. I figured I put in the leg work, and there was no point in sitting and waiting. I could travel and wait, right? But its like leaving a significant other back home, you really can't get them out of your mind. All said, I would bend over backwards for UNC still...anything for that acceptance...or at least some final word. I interviewed back in November, and the wait has been agonizing. Looks like its coming to an end though, or so we hope. Lets all keep our sanity about us, and try to remain optimistic. Lets never forget this feeling of excitement and anticipation, how ever far we find ourselves in the medical profession. It will keep us grounded in the long run, remembering our humble beginnings here on this SDN thread, our undecided futures looming on the horizon, the possibilities bigger than we dare to dream. We'll all find our way there eventually. Good luck to us all.
