Glad to hear there is waitlist movement. Has anybody emailed Dr. H about their status on the waitlist? If they should be hopeful for an acceptance?
 
I’ve been trying to find out about something called the second chance or second look program... I've gone on their school's website and it defines it as:

An opportunity in the spring semester for selected students accepted to the School of Medicine to come back and visit the VCU campus a second time for a more informal meeting with students, administrators and faculty.

However I’ve read some other posts on here with people "claiming" that they have been invited however they also said that they’re on that school's waiting list. Are they just kidding about getting invited or are they telling the truth? Me thinks this whole med school process messes with peoples minds and making them imagine things and don’t really know what they’re talking about...or flat out liars 😉

What do you guys think?

You are completley right.
First of all I called you today and they said that the waitlist moves everyday. You can be accepted at any day at any hour.
Another thing I have been invited to the second look program. I don't know why in the world they invited me when i am still in the waiting list. And I am not accepted yet. Driving me crazy.

I thought posters had already said the second look weekend is for minorities (i guess those on the waitlist and those who have been accepted).

Nah that weekend excursion isnt just for minorities...any person of any racial background can be invited

has anybody seen VCU's 2006 match list???
 
But if accepted students aren't all invited, then what's the point? I think it's specifically for a subset of the population, URM or something similar.

hahaha I love it...so the weekend is now alleged and may or may not be for minorities. Im all for crashing it... Im sure doing this will have no bearing on my getting accepted off the waitlist but just in case, I will be wearing one of those masks from the Scream movies...
 
Don't really care about second look. VCU's my #1 choice, and a second look weekend won't change that. I just want off the waitlist and IN.

You, of course, realize that posting this here is the equivalent of wearing a 49ers jacket in Oakland. It's just not something you do if you like your limbs where they presently are located.

Has anyone gotten information about second look? I was accepted but have received no such info (albiet some of my mail are being returned by the post office).

ShyRem, what is it you love about VCU that makes it your #1 choice? I loved the school too, but I have not found any of the schools to be a clear #1 (other than Einstein, but that's because I liked the program + going there would allow me to keep my house). I found I loved some things about most of the school.
 
Diego, what makes any school your #1 choice will vary from person to person. For me, it's a whole package - good for me, good for my husband, good for my children. Other schools, while good for me, may not be as good for my husband or children (read this: job opportunities, school systems, cost of living, housing expenses, etc.).

Shy, are you still planning on calling to find out a general idea of your location on the waitlist? My situation is not quite as extreme as yours, but I do have a family and a wife who needs to start looking for a job as well. It would be nice to at least have an idea if we stand a chance. Let me know when or if you're going to call. 👍
 
inverted, I did send an email to ask if my husband should look for a job in Virginia. She said it was a bit early to tell yet - whether they get to anyone depends on the withdrawal movement. But she was very encouraging about the committee liked my application and thought I would fit in well at VCU. She also said they'd have a better idea after a month or so. I'm sure going to miss Dr. H when she retires in June. 🙁 As for a general idea, however, she did say that if withdrawal movement continued at a pace similar to previous years they wouldn't get to me until early summer. Here's hoping for extra withdrawal movement this year.

So in the meantime, my husband is keeping lines of communication open and hopefully we should have a couple of months crossover time (it'll take a couple months for him to get through testing processes for a job unless there are lateral transfers open, but he'd need to be employed at the time of the lateral).
 
Hi guys. I'm happy to announce that I've been accepted to a state school. I found out 1 week ago, but my paranoia prevented me from withdrawing my VCU application until receiving my paperwork, which I just received.

So, I've officially withdrawn myself from the waitlist at VCU. I know this won't really help too much in the near term, since I was not occupying an actual seat. But, now there is one less person on the waitlist.

You guys are great. So, is VCU. It's an awesome school, and my decision was not an easy one to make. Both schools have their pluses and minuses. But, in the end, being a bit closer to family and in-state tuition tilted the balance towards my state school.

I've really enjoyed the comradery on this thread. And I hope you guys do well in this process. Good luck, and hang in there.

Cf, noooooooooo! who will gang up on Jbone with me now. Congrats buddy! Actually I just talked to good ol' bone. He's just poppin' pills like we all knew he would and playing x-box. Well at least Shy and Visla are still with me. 😀

No prob. If I had to look at a baby THAT cute... well, I'd probably forget everyone else, too. :laugh:

I only lurked before my interview... partly b/c it took me a while to find this thread. I was looking for the VCU Class of 2010 thread in the allo forums where many others are. Imagine my surprise when I stumbled on this one... all its many pages displayed in glory. 😀

So happy to have found it and "met" you all... it's made the waiting much easier. Isn't it funny how humans under duress always feel better knowing there are others in the same predicament? We are so sadistic that way. :laugh:

Waiting for Godot is a play where these two guys are waiting for this man named Godot. They wait in the same spot every day, for days on end. They keep waiting because this boy keeps coming up to them at the end of each day and says something like "Sorry, Godot cannot come today. He will come tomorrow." And so, the two just keep waiting and waiting. Nobody knows who Godot actually is supposed to be, Godot never does show up, and the two guys just keep waiting.

It's not the most exciting play to watch/read, FYI.
