Waiting for Godot is a play where these two guys are waiting for this man named Godot. They wait in the same spot every day, for days on end. They keep waiting because this boy keeps coming up to them at the end of each day and says something like "Sorry, Godot cannot come today. He will come tomorrow." And so, the two just keep waiting and waiting. Nobody knows who Godot actually is supposed to be, Godot never does show up, and the two guys just keep waiting.

It's not the most exciting play to watch/read, FYI.

I think Godot is supposed to be a metaphor for God.

Well, somewhat. It's not quite as hopeless as that play. We do know that if we haven't gotten in by the time classes begin in August, then it's not gonna happen. At least, not this year. So yeah, I guess it is kind of like that play.

Is it May 15th yet?

Hope you all have a good weekend!

I emailed Dr. H earlier in the week, asking if I should be hopeful to get into VCU. She said if the waitlist moves at the same rate as last year, they might get to me. However it is moving slow so far, and they will not have an idea of the movement until May 15th. I really appreciate her honesty.

I hope the waitlist moves as fast as it does last year, but the only thing that makes me afraid is the # of increased applicants this year.

I hope the rest of us SDNers get into VCU or some medical school. You guys would make great doctors.

Wow, that's nice of her to tell people something. I've been thinking about writing and asking too, but personally I think I'd rather not know right now.

I hear ya Tacrum. I rather know early than later. This way I can start making plans for next year, if things don't work out. I got lucky and got an invite for interivew another med school. I am waiting a response for another med school. I hope it works out at least one of these places. We'll see... All I can do is pray and hope in the meantime.

It is very nice for her to be straightforward. I def. appreciate it.

Nas, that's pretty darn close to what she said to me, too. Basically, we need to let things shake out until the beginning of May at least to have a better vision of our chances. So kindof pointless to write her right now I think.

However, read last year's thread. There are some very inspiration stories of waitlisted candidates on there. I'm still hoping for good news before it's too late - so preferably before June. Ok, mid June. Ok, anytime before my husband gets a job in Maine, and he's not going to look until June anyways.

Does anyone know what day school begins this fall???

From the orientation/admissions site I stumbled upon:

M1…….August 14, 2006 (Orientation August 7 11, Classes begin August 14)

Thanks Rem, I was just trying to see how things would work out with my summer job.

That's the accepted theory I guess, although the author of the play strongly denied it.

😕 Who knows?

does anyone have the link for last year's thread? i can't seem to find it anywhere on here. i'd love to read some of these stories to boost my confidence a little. i mean, every little bit helps right? good luck to all.

Anyone else here started using SDN after seeing it on the VCU application status page???

I wish you all the best. I have withdrawn from the waitlist... Best of Luck to you guys/gals!

Yes, keep the faith. May 15th isn't THAT far away...

How long?

Wow. I started sifting through last year's VCU waitlist movement thread and realized... we have a looooong road ahead. Hopers unite! 👍

Yeah, but it seemed like there was a lot of movement towards the end of may and into June. Let's keep encouraging those at our schools who have been accepted or are on the waitlist to take Jbone and Cf's scholarship and withdraw 😉 . I am trying to get a kid in my biochem class to take his SUNY Syracuse spot and withdraw his acceptance from VCU. I mean come on, he interviewed in Feb. and was accepted, a lot of us have been here since Oct. 😀

Me🙂

Hi all. I've been checking this thread obsessively since Dean Heldberg mentioned it. 🙂 Thanks so much to all of you for the information and tips-it's keeping me sane and it's a great distraction from the homework I should be doing! Just fyi, i'm wait-listed in-state, so anyone with info on how that list is going, please let me know.

Hi nolamd2b,

A belated welcome to the thread! I'm also wait-listed in-state. I've heard rumors that our list is going to move much more slowly, and no in-state students have posted to the thread that they plan to turn down their VCU acceptance (that I know of). We'll keep eachother posted, ay?

Madi and Nolamd2b, Although this may not be much help since I'm only one person, I am preparing to turn down VCU as an in-stater. I guess I never actually came out and said it as much as I just quit posting on the thread. I was trying to wait until I got my financial aid package but the more I think about it, the more I know that I would just be happier somewhere else no matter the price difference. I just saw myself fitting in so much better at another state school. The decision has weighed heavily on my mind but it's time to make it final. VCU is still a great school though I'll still claim it as my co-#1! I hope this decision bring good news to one of you before too long! And good luck to the rest of you! :luck:

Thanks so much, ghostchild! I wish the best of luck to you at whichever school you end up at.

Hey ya'll I've been reading the forum like a crazo too for the last few weeks but have never posted either. I was trying to hold out on registering since I already spend enough time just reading, oh well, i gave in. I'm a waitlisted in-stater too so we can comiserate! haven't heard anything about movement yet. Last year's thread said that our list moves slowly (in terms of volume) but it happens sooner. Who knows though, that is all hearsay.

Anyone heard from jbone recently? He still doped up beyond belief? How's he doin'?
Hey everyone!
Sorry I've fallen off of the map lately, but I've been doped up and in pain for the last 2 1/2 weeks. I've checked in a couple of times to see how all of you are doing. Doesn't look as though the list is really moving. Sorry about that everyone. It will pick up. At least you made the waitlist... 🙁

Thank you for your comments and concerns. I'm fine (just a lot of pain and laying on my ace) other than that, things are great. Your comments really make being rejected from VCU that much more difficult. (damn you Dr. H 🙁 )You are all great people and I would love to call you all my classmates, but since I have been ousted from the VCU central thread, (I'm not worthy) I'll just bug you from time to time just to make sure you all get in and this thread stays off of page 9 (inverted you loser). Thanks again for the comments and PMs.
Love ya'll.
Jason

BTW, if you are bored and would like to see pics of my surgery, I posted them at:

(no laughing...I'm still on pain meds 😛 )
Play nice friends and good luck to everyone, I'm praying for ya. 🙂 👍
I'll post updates later, but right now, I'm in pain....later.

good to see you're alive, slim. your daughter is ridiculously cute. i can't believe you gave birth to her out of your leg.

Hi,
I just stopped in here to say I was a fellow waitlister from 2002. It is awful and I know what you are going thorugh. Hang in there. Sadly the list did NOT move for me and I was left with no where to go that year. I gave up and we even moved away.., But my dream wouldnot be buried away no matter how hard I tried. I reapplied in 2003/2004 application and was accepted to anumber of places. I chose a DO school here in VA and I love it here.. I am now almost done with my MSII year and am preparing for the boards. I will more than likely take both teh COMLEX and the USMLE.

My point in posting is that for those of you who get in this year...ii applaud you, BUT for those who dont get in.. Dont give up on your dream. If you want to get in, find out where you can improve on your application and work on those areas. I love my DO school and I am amazed at how much I have learned. I am sad that I didnt get to go to VCU/MCV, but I am going to be a doctor so everything worked out for me. Just dont give up

Good luck to you all,
Amy B

Thanks a bunch, ghostchild! Good luck to you!

Also, for anyone who wants a back-up plan for next year, Tulane University has a program for people who've been wait-listed anywhere and feel like spending a year in New Orleans (despite the bad press, it's a great place to live 👍 ). You get to take most of the M1 classes with med students (you're graded as equals) and then Tulane sends letters to the schools of your choice letting them know that you've been taking M1 classes and how you performed compared to the class average. Good for people like me whose science GPA's aren't the best 🙂

The application deadline is in June and the program costs $11, 000, which is steep, but they have a roughly 90% acceptance rate to med school for those who've gone through the program. You can get more info from http://www.som.tulane.edu/departments/scb/acpinfo.htm.

hmm....we are all still on the waitlist right?? VCU didnt secretly reject us all overnight?....as if there werent already a crapload of these programs, I think in a few yrs every med school assoc with an undergrad will have an SMP/medical post-bac ...they are great for raking in the money without having to shell out much in return..

Congrats on ure successful surgery jbone!

Hey jbone!

Glad to see you're still alive and everything. 👍 I like how you began and ended your surgery pics with pictures of you and your daughter; very sweet. So does the surgeon think the operation was a success? What's the prognosis?

Just wanted to let you all know I'm right there with you on that in-state waiting list. I'm hoping for the best but planning for the worst. I've got an appointment to talk with Dr. Heldberg coming up pretty soon to talk about my position and whatnot. If I learn anything insightful I'll be sure to pass it along.

Hi, all,

I was so surprised that I got an e-mail from VCU today. Yes, I'm IN!!! And this is my FIRST acceptance! I'm OOS and had interview back in late Jan. I didn't think my stat or interview was not that exceptional but I got extremely lucky to get in this early. I'm sorry that many of us are still waiting but just want to tell you that the waitlist IS MOVING! As you all know (from the interview invite experience), it's matter of time. Many of us will get in eventually. Please stay hopeful. You are almost there. Good luck!

Welcome back to semi-reality, J! We were all actually hoping the pain meds would benefit us AND you-- no pain for you, therefore you post a lot, pain meds make your posts really interesting, and we all get entertained. 😀

I didn't laugh at your doped-up pics... really, I didn't. Uhm, I swear. I'm sure CF and Inverted would have some things to say--- it's been so quiet withohut you bantering back and forth. And I can't pick on the weak, so I'll refrain from any more Deliverance quotes. But, you DID have to drop your britches for the surgery. Haha. See, it's just not as funny now.

Well, anyway, it was really good logging back in to the VCU thread and seeing your avatar of kitty porn. STILL makes me laugh.

FD

Good Luck VCU hopefuls...you guys want it more than anybody!

jbone, I *did* laugh at your recovery pictures - but only because I went through ankle surgery 4 years ago. Ok... get this... what's more pathetic than a 33 year old woman on crutches for the first time in her life? Her 6 year old daughter on crutches at the same time. Yup. No lie. Both of us crutchin' around for 6-8 weeks. I break my ankle and spend a year on and off crutches (finally had surgery - that helped a BUNCH), and three days after my surgery my daughter goes and breaks her leg. Had to call my husband home from work to pick up his little girl and take her for x-rays. Fun times. Yup.

So Jason, I laughed in sympathy. Get better soon.

Oh - I did find out why morphine should be pronounced mor-FINE when I had my ankle sliced up. 'Cuz the more they give you the more fine you feel!
Ok, that was bad. Sorry.
