oh, jbone! No!

So.. DMU for you? (BTW: DMU was not a nice experience for me, but I hear other folks just adore the place.)

Ok. I said accepted elsewhere, but want to stay on the waitlist. On the upside, I won the bet with my husband and I get a spa facial! I'd rather have an acceptance. VCU is still my #1 choice... damn I really want to go there. 🙁

Ok i am a bit paranoid too! I read in the body of my alternate status message that i am "a relatively strong" candidate. Is this a hint as to my score? Or does everyone have this same message?

Cashmere, I got the same msg. I gotta think they got standard msgs sent for everyone. But, I hope it means more than what it is, but that is unlikely.

He!! yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm in!!!!!!!!!!! Richmond here I come.

Jbone, Im so sorry! But at least you really liked DMU so I wish luck over there

I of course got waitlisted too...Kinda odd that they ask if uve already been accepted somewhere and Im thinking its so that they know how "desperate" people are and how likely an applicant will stick with VCU if offered an admission. A very tricky way to do things if u ask me....

Cashmere, here's what mine said (also has "relatively strong" in it):

Here is the information that you have been anxiously awaiting. While we regret that we are unable to offer you a place in the class immediately, we are pleased to advise you that you have been placed on our alternate list. We do anticipate withdrawals from the class over the next several months with the peak coming around May 15, when candidates holding multiple acceptances are asked to send their final acceptance to the schools. As you know, we do not give out any details on your rank on the list. Be assured we will notify you immediately when we are able to offer you an acceptance. In the event that we do not have sufficient withdrawals to be able to offer you a seat you will be notified immediately after our orientation, which is mid-August.

We are anxious to assure you that we found you to be a relatively strong candidate and that the large applicant pool is the primary reason that we are unable to make an offer at this time. If you are not accepted elsewhere, you should apply early this next summer even if you still remain on our alternate list. If you wait for final notification from us, it will put you at a disadvantage for the following year.

We would appreciate your completion of the Alternate List Form, which we have provided at the top of this page. It allows us to track your status and interest in our school. If you have been accepted elsewhere and do not wish to remain on the alternate list, you may withdraw your application by following the instructions on the Alternate List Form; it would be of great assistance if we knew which candidates are still interested in our school.

We expect you to use this form even later in the summer should you be accepted elsewhere and no longer wish to be considered. This enables us to treat your fellow applicants better by allowing us to manage the alternate list more fairly. PLEASE REMEMBER to notify us at any time if your interest in our school changes.

We look forward to hearing from you and sincerely hope that you will be accepted here or elsewhere.

Waitlisted.

Congratulations Em1 on your acceptance!

Jbone, you're going to be an excellent physician no matter where you end up. Your sensitivity and sense of humor are rare and wonderful. Good-luck with your surgery and everything else, and thanks for being such good company!!

i see. that makes sense that it would be one message for efficiency sake! thanks for the info guys

I just found out that I made it. Good luck to all you guys!!!

waitlisted here too with the "relatively strong" message. jbone, sorry to hear...i was pulling for you.

i also find it odd that they wanted to know if we've been accepted elsewhere. is it some kind of weird tie-breaker for acceptances or pure curiosity?

I assume this is some time of vulgarity in Thai?? Sorry Bone, lets play a little H2, your newly acquired anger should help me level up!!

I am on the good old waitlist. Thank my lucky stars, I love VCU and all of my potential future classmates.

good thing about VCUs waitlist is that it starts moving early (altho not much) in April and continues thru the summer. good luck you guys :luck:

It is pretty funny to see all the people come out of the woodwork after decision day. I hope Dr. H has noticed the VCU central locals and put us near the top of the good ol' list for shear sake of being so dedicated.

I know! some of these people ive never heard of....but they are our VCU brethren nonetheless and so we welcome you with open waitlisted arms

Waitlisted.

Jbone, I'm sorry to hear it bro. Just remember that things happen for a reason, and I agree with the others that you'll be a great doctor!

Another OOS waitlisted... I do hold an admission elsewhere, but the decision between the two would have been tough for personal reasons. Ah well.

Like I said before,
Rejected.

Glad I could spend 7 months of my life waiting for this bull****. Oh well.

"The Admissions Committee has met and we have made our final set of offers. As most of you were told during our morning session, the committee has decided not to have an excessively long alternate list. Consequently, we regret to advise you that despite our interest in you we are unable to offer you a position in the class nor on the alternate list.

As you know, medical school has become increasingly competitive over the past several years. The Committee understands the disappointing nature of their decision and urges you to consult with your pre-med advisor if you are not accepted elsewhere this year.

We wish you the very best of success with your alternate plans."

later. 🙁

As probably the only one on here that can read that, I'm so sorry. You've been fun to talk to, and I hope you keep in touch. Good luck with DO!

hey does anyone know how many they waitlist? anyone call and ask? i'd venture to say that VCU waitlist should have good movement....

I said I had an acceptance elsewhere but wanted to remain on the list.

Yeah, I just put the same thing.

Congrats to everyone that was accepted today! 👍 I hope to see you all in the fall.

<---- Oof, Alternate-List. 🙁 Not very surprising, actually.

I was a little amused by the reference to SDN, though  If you really are reading this, MCV, here is a suggestion for you:

Status System said:
. . . and we anticipate that we will make a number of modifications to make it even smoother next year.

It would be nice if a strictly rolling vs. strictly non-rolling policy was well-defined and adhered to in your administration. Most of us lurking on this thread have felt pretty unloved and neglected by the way the system currently works, and I don't think I'm alone when I say I'm geniunely uncertain as to whether you should be classified as rolling or not. That's really the only suggestion I have, everything else seems pretty good about the way the system is set up (i.e. large committee with blind voting system, faculty interview style, etc).

I also chose "I have an acceptance but wish to remain on VCU alternate list." I really want to stay close to home (VA instater). Other than that, I'm very happy about my acceptance and can't wait to start at Drexel! 😀

My dear OOS friends on this thread, keep hope alive! Your alternate status really will have a good chance of updating with an offer. Being instate sorta stinks at this stage of the process...

Another waitlisted OOS, relieved...

So has anyone been taken off the alternate list yet?

The decision wouldn't be a hard one for me at all - VCU has always been and continues to be my #1 choice. I'd drop EVERYTHING else for them. But I'm not one of those folks that holds on to acceptances, either - I culled my list of interviews I went to after I got an acceptance to the DO school I liked and notified other places that I knew were lower on the list post-interview that I was withdrawing.

You and me both sister. Let's keep our hopes up.

Especially after I get NOTHING from VCU or even worse...a "kick in the jimmy with a golf shoe" rejection (and I'm talkin metal spikes people). Or even better...crampons. Ouch. 🙁 :scared:

I love it because I called it. Sucks to be the only one rejected on this thread. 🙁

Why?

Oh well, thanks everybody, I would have loved to have been your classmates but I believe things happen for a reason. I just don't understand why they would interview me EARLY, hold me for 6 months only to kick me in the balls. Doesn't make sense. Oh well, their admissions process is lame but part of the game we must all play.

Congrats to everyone who got in or will (inverted, cf, Rem, madi, cav, tacrum, Fdoroml, M. kisses, viz, etc). You are all truly great friends and deserve it. 👍 Play nice and I'll see you around.

Jason S.

ps. sorry mango for the thai. 😳

jbone, you too buddy. You crack me up man. Things do happen for a reason, and all will be well. Good luck in the surgery.

Does anyone know how many people are waitlisted? Does anyone know what last year's waitlisted to accepted conversion rate was?

Leave it to premeds to get all numerical about this 😉

Edit: I am by no means a hypocrit and I want to know this information as well. In obsession we are united as one!

From jebus on another thread (thanks again, jebus!!! 😍 ):

VCU: applied / interviewed / accepted / matriculated
total: 4,406 / 670 / 384 / 184
Out-of-state: 3,602 / 333 / 190 / 80

No break down of waitlist, etc. but it seems that for oos there's about a 60% chance of getting in after interview. These figures were from US News for last year I think.

Waitlisted OOS

Congrats to those who got in!! If yall need some advise on deciding whether to go to VCU or not (assuming you have multiple acceptances) feel free to let us all on this thread know. We will not charg any fee. And our advise will be prompt.

Free of cost and free of bias, right? 😉

I'm waitlisted too. CA resident.

VCU isn't my top choice right now so I will likely withdraw soon.

Good luck everyone.

Oh, don't you worry. We've got it all taken care of with our scholarship fund to anyone choosing another school over VCU. We set it up MONTHS ago! lol

Hey anything to increase the number of peeps from the waitlist that get in.

😀

I assume when people withdraw from the waitlist the rankings are reshuffled?

DO you have acceptance elsewhere? If so congrats!!

Oh duh its right on your signature 😀

Yeah, I know. But, good ole cf is smart. I already enlisted inverted!

P.S. don't tell him. he doesn't know yet.

waitlisted OOS here too...

Congrats to those accepted!!! My sincere condolences to any applicants who were rejected...I wish you the best of luck at other schools you're still up for acceptance at.

Good luck to all those (like me) who are on the waitlist! I've been reading this thread incognito for awhile and hopefully it'll remain as supportive as ever in what might possibly be a long road ahead on the waitlist.

P.S. Thanks to all those who are withdrawing from VCU and giving the rest of us a shot!
