2007-2008 Secondary Application Thread

I must say this is the first time I have witnessed flirting through SDN. :meanie:

I second that... I don't know of two DO's marrying, but I know plenty of MD's... I guess it would be a very holistic relationship with excellent mutual backrubs 👍

I like when Kicia posts, she is purty!!😉
LOL...must be my spelling, right? I know it knocks everyone off of their chair:laugh:😉

 you made my day...if i could only now convince my s/a to go to osteopathic school instead of doing career in investemnts😉

Diver, although are are probobly beneeth the clowds on your way to Cayman ( you lucky man😎)...LECOM replied to me and i think they accutally emailed everybody about the suplemental invite for all those who have completed secs already few weeks ago. SO the message is basically: ignore the suplemental invite if you have already sent it out! And don't worry, they do have your apps and they will start reviewing files at the end of this month. SO i guess we should start hearing about interviews sometime in few weeks:luck:

Just a quick question:

If I applied pretty broadly 20+ DO schools and about the same MD. Honestly, I do not plan on filling out every secondary and pursuing each and every one. I only did this as a precaution and better to overestimate and under. I am whittling down the apps to my liking and just added many schools because I wanted to finish the primary at an early date.

Will adcoms push this fact at interviews? Do they know which schools I've applied to? I know if certain prompts ask how many schools did you make application this year, but besides those schools, will others know about them?

LOL...I was freaking out this morning about that first email. I thought they lost my initial application. I was about to call then I got that email. Phew 😀

Oh God, I just got an email from DMU...my file is complete and under review:scared::scared:

:luck::luck::luck:

LOL..i am freaking out (period)
if not a thought of missing supplementals then there is always the rest of that cycle LOL

:laugh: Ooh Tanner is witty, you should have put that on your app as special skills!👍

 No I should have had the shortest personal statement on record:
"I want to be an osteopathic physician so I can give my wife good back massages"

There are some conspiracy theorist pre-meds out there that think that schools have access to the number/names of other schools you applied to. Personally, I don't think they would ask on a secondary if they already knew... unless of course they are just asking to gauge your honesty...

I'm pretty certain that allopathic schools don't know about osteopathic ones and vice versus.... And I would be willing to bet a good amount that individual schools within each philosophy don't have access to your school designations either... but thats just my opinion

Has anyone recieved a secondary from PCOM or NYCOM?

Has anyone recieved a secondary from PCOM or NYCOM?

PCOM yes...but i didn't aplly to NYCOM...and as far as i know NYCOM gives secs only to those who get interview invites.

I got PCOM a while ago, but NYCOM has yet to show up, but if you get one it is a good thing.

has any one received UNECOM and OhioUCOM secondaries?

also if our file was complete by the end of september at most schools do you think that is late?

People have received UNECOM's. I believe they require a 2.7 and 18.

Anybody else find it extremely difficult to answer the UNECOM essays in only 2000 characters(including spaces)?!??!?!

Anyone hear from pikeville, umdnj or debusk?

For those of you waiting on DCOM, we just finished our first orientation and are beginning classes full-time on Monday. I know the admissions people (along with every other person at DCOM) have been very involved with the orientation and the start of the school year thus far. Things should begin moving for you shortly, I would imagine, so just have some patience as the admissions dept begins moving back to looking at apps and focusing on the class of 2012, especially since the class of 2011, and the entire school, has just started rolling.

The building is incredible at DCOM. They are still finishing up some minor parts of the building, but it will definitely be worth the wait. All of us at DCOM are looking forward to meeting with you applicants, so hopefully we will be seeing you all very soon. Until then, good luck getting interviews and, hopefully, some acceptances!!!

I'm doing PCOM's post bac, but I haven't recieved a secondary yet. Isn't that weird? Should I call them to make sure they have me listed as in the post bac?

I am counting very much on DCOM...it is my top choice along with CCOM so i would be thrilled to hear from them soon (and something possitive ofcourse)😀

That's great news! I like the idea of DCOM as well. Good Luck on your upcoming school year.

Give em' Hell.:meanie:

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what they were doing for the LECOM essay #2 when you talk about clinical experiences ect. Should I list them and write a paragraph for each or should I just have an organized essay with a thesis and conclusion? Right now I have it as 4 or 5 paragraphs which flow easily but it seems kinda random to talk about many different things one section. Should I link all my clinical experiences or not? thanks for your help guys/ and gals

i just wrote an essay.

yea thats what I kinda did. I just wanted to make sure that it was ok if it wasnt all related. Its hard to connect two paragraphs when one talks about volunteering at a free med clinic and the next is talking about a club you were in....

KCUMB finally sent out their secondary!

did you get KCUMB's secondary in email or what?

do they screen for secondaries?

On the website, it says that those meeting requirements after an initial review will receive a secondary but does not say what those requirements are.

I think that this is my favorite secondary so far. They seem to really value work experience, life experiences, and research experience. I didn't really want to apply here bc I really dislike KC but I'm learning a lot of cool things about the school and may really end up liking it.

what is their essay and is it long?

:scared::scared:this makes me nervous because I havent gotten an email from KCUMB even telling me that they got my primary. I'm really really nervous because I was also hoping for a secondary opportunity at KCUMB:scared::scared:

has anyone received secondaries from Touro-CA (mare island) or UMDNJ-SOM ?
My AACOMAS app was sent out 7/11 btw.

I wouldn't worry too much bc a lot of the secondaries have come out periodically during a respective day and not all at once. It took me awhile to get KCOMs after everyone else seemed to get it.

There are a few short paragraph type questions including describing work experience, research experience, and any breaks that were taken between schooling. There is one large essay which is kind of a free-for-all telling them anything you would like them to know about you including life experiences and motivation for applying to KCUMB.

I'm not a fan of the KCUMB essay. As they named it themselves, it's pretty much a second personal statement. I really don't want to write that. I'm at the tail end of my secondaries, and my motivation is just about dead. 🙁

So who is in the same boat 🙁 ..just took mcat and have so many secondaries to start!!!
Which one do i start with :scared:

I had a quick question for those who are filling out secondaries right now. For some schools, they require a page or so of a "personal statement" indicating why you want to become an osteopathic physician, your academic performance, and health care experience. But I sort of answered some of those questions in my personal statement that I sent in with AACOMAS (which was an optional thing to do). Should I sort of reiterate what I wrote in my personal statement that I sent to AACOMAS or write a whole new essay? It seems as if I'd be repeating myself again on these secondaries. How did you guys go about writing these?

I feel that!😉

Yep, both were sent out. TOURO screens (you need greater than a 23 MCAT and 3.0 GPA).

Good Luck :luck:

I am complete at VCOM. I hope I get an interview!

Has anyone heard from them after being complete or know when they will next look at secondaries?

I feel that!😉
I seriously wish I could write a paragraph or two about why I'm interested in the school and then at the end write "please see PS for additional information." hahaha

I got a call from VCOM admissions asking me if I had any questions about the secondary. I haven't turned it in yet, and possibly won't, but they seem like a nice staff. Did anyone else receive that call?

Wow. That's probably a good thing!
