my MCAT is on the low side "for now" do you know what the cutoff is for KCUMB's MCAT?

You know what, let's go with what Spiced says, that there's no screening. I know I've read it but I don't have the figures here and I can't seem to find it in the document they sent - it's loaded with info.

I bet you'll be just fine. They just sent out their first round of links to the "new" secondary on Monday. It's really not "new", but they've made it so people can type in the document itself which really doesn't matter for those of us with a full version of Adobe Acro.

I bet they are sending out batches of secondary URLs. Probably get yours just as soon as we get done here...😀

Nix what I said about the screening since I can't substantiate it right now. I'm 99.999% sure I read it - maybe it was just GPA? I'm positive those letters in snail mail last year mentioned it, though... 👍

You guys try not to worry about it. They were running behind schedule and according to Spiced, are consumed with business related to new matriculants right now.

I bet they'll send another batch via e-mail momentarily!

yea I wouldnt worry about it either. I was freaking because I had not gotten a secondary but it came that day. I think I would feel better if KCUMB screened the applicant because then I would feel like I actually made a cutoff. Sheesh this process is draining

Well, that certainly does sound like some sort of screening, given the part about meeting their "minimum criteria." I guess I stand corrected. However, I don't recall my secondary from last year mentioning anything about "minimum criteria." Perhaps this is a new thing that they started this cycle? In light of the above quote, I'm no longer sure what they are doing and I don't have any idea what this "minimum criteria" is. Anyway, thanks for sharing the above quote from your secondary, gasapple, I've been very busy lately. Today is my white-coating ceremony. 😎

Well, whatever the case is with screening, I wish you guys gunning for KCUMB as your first choice, all the best. I don't have to tell you how awesome KCUMB is. 😀

What is the student ambassadors program? Is that like student hosting? I just got an interview there today as well, and this would be really helpful if it is what I think it is. Thanks.

I'm not a fan of the KCUMB essay. As they named it themselves, it's pretty much a second personal statement. I really don't want to write that. I'm at the tail end of my secondaries, and my motivation is just about dead. 🙁

My understanding is that NYCOM only sends secondary applications to those applicants they want to invite for interviews.

i got a letter via snail mail from NYCOM saying they only secondaries to people they interview. im assuming they wait for mcat scores then.

Ha that's how I am about Stony Brook's essays! For KCUMB I literally copied and pasted 4 essays and then reworked some paragraphs so I didnt overlap info and added some connectors in there and lone behold I have an answer for everything they were looking for. The only problem is that it is longer than my PS!

Is anyone else having trouble accessing the online form for the application for TOURO-CA mare island? I got an invite to do their secondary on Monday, but the form has to be typed, and they tell you to go to www.tu.edu to access the application. Unfortunately, when I click on the California page the site is broken. Is this happening to anyone else?

No. Did u type your pikeville app? I haven't sumbitted it yet, but wondered if I should scan it and then type it.

Pikeville mailed me their big application packet today, I can't believe it's on paper! I don't think I will scan it..maybe use a typewriter(!).

OSUCOM said their secondary is on their website.

UMDNJ is the only school I haven't heard back from.

For NOVA COM 's secondary, why does it ask to list all of the allopathic and osteopathic schools i am applying to this cycle? Also one question asks whether English was my native language. In my case it wasn't, so would I have to have documentation of English literacy as it says on the application? Please help.

If it says you need documentation on the application, then yes, you need it.

you can just have your references write letters on letterhead, the form is just another option.

Yup, it went well. I was much more moved by the experience than I thought I was going to be.

Now the real fun begins. I have class from 8am to 4pm tomorrow, and I'm already behind with reading...about 100 pgs. 😱 Time to get busy. 🙂

Most of the osteopathic schools ask why I have chosen their school to pursue my medical education. How do you answer them? I just used the MSAR and found something interesting about their curriculum, residency placements, test scores, etc and just mentioned them when stating why I liked that school. Is thiis the way to go? thanks.

Is that for the personal statement? It says discuss in essay form. I talked about experiences and how they demonstrated the qualities I have/will bring.

oops I thought you were talking about KCUMB, but I would answer that question just like I did anyways. Just one persons opinion.

I would definately elaborate on any example you have. For me, I used these essays and kind of divided them in half. I spent one half talking about my personal qualities such as hardships I have overcome and how I overcame them and the other half talking about technical abilities and interests. For example, KCOM has a program in environmental public health and a lot of my research is related to environmental public health but is more the chemistry side. So I spoke about my research abilities and experience.

For KCUMB it's probably better if you take half or 2/3 of your essay and describe qualities you have and then use leadership, and extracurricular activities as an example and that would include the part where they ask you to describe your leadership. Then spend the rest of the essay on why you want to go there.
