This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Has anyone received secondaries from NOVA, Ohio Univ. COM or WVSOM? I haven't and I am freaking out!!! My AACOMAS application was sent out to the schools about 3 weeks ago!

Thanks, good luck to you too. That'd be pretty cool if we got accepted to the same school, then we could be frequent posters in the ----COM class of 2012 thread. lol

YES!!!😍😀 it would be super dooper awsome thing👍

I got Ohio U and MSU-COM today plus Pikeville via snail mail.

Still waiting on CCOM, KCUMB, and ATSU-K. I hope it's them and not me 😱

I haven't received any of those and my primaries were sent out June 27th.

In response to the post about WVSOM. Only interviewees receive supplemental apps. I got an email with an ID and Pin # that allows me to check on my current status.

what is the best way to write secondaries asking what qualities, abilities, characters you possess that will make you a successful D.O.?

instead of saying, "I am a hard worker, I am patient..." what kind of writing technique will make the answers unique and exciting rather than sounding very generic?

Show it, instead of telling it. i.e. instead of "I am a hard worker", explain a course you were struggling in and eventually, through office hours, tutors, studying blah blah blah, you earned an A.

I'll be interested to hear if your impressions of the schools are different after interviews. I was shocked at how much my "A-list" had changed.

That's interesting, could you maybe give a before and after top five? I can imagine though. I don't hear too much about UNECOM on these forums but really liked it after a visit.

I won't say school names because I don't want to unduly influence anyone. Everyone should definitely form their own opinions. But I'll say my #1 choice before interviews quickly went to dead last after interview. And my "eh" choice quickly went to #1 on osteo list and #2 on all-around list after interview.

Keep an open mind, eyes, and ears. It was an... interesting experience.

:bow:Finally I got ATSU-KCOM secondary 😀
essays nearly the same as LECOM and DCOM

and CCOM!!!!!!!!!!! yeay!😀
:luck::luck::luck:

essay q:
Attach a response to the following question (500 words or fewer):
Why are you seeking a career in osteopathic medicine, and why do you believe CCOM would provide
you with the type of osteopathic medical education you are seeking?

ok CCOM also wants this:
1. Attach a copy of your resume or curriculum vitae, including the following information:
• Educational history (colleges attended and degrees earned)
• Employment history, medically related work and volunteer experiences
• College extracurricular activities, honors, and leadership responsibilities
• Community activities, honors, and leadership responsibilities
• Hobbies and nonacademic interests

does any one have an idea how to write this...i mean what format?

It is a standard resume. You can search a whole bunch on google. There is no need for an essay.

oh good!
and ccom invite came in email with the pdf file of secondary (which only basic one page long thing you need to sigh at the end)...they also said they mailed in the instructions for checking your apps status via their interactive page.

to be honest i am very surprised they didn't straigh reject me because of my MCAT score...maybe they liked the fact i shadowed their alumnus for almost a year:laugh:
either way i am very happy... CCOM is very high on my list😍

Dr Kicia,

Did the KCOM secondary come via e-mail or regular mail?
Thanks.

Dr Kicia,

Did the KCOM secondary come via e-mail or regular mail?
Thanks.

It came via email, like CCOM did.

here is KCOMs secondary online app for those of you who want to get started:

http://www.atsu.edu/application/kcom/

Kicia already explained what the CCOM secondary entails. It is not an online app, but in pdf or word document.

guys can anyone volunteer to read my CV😳

i asked them if they accept confidencial lors thru interfolio and they replied that they do....nothing about the form in their reply what so ever.
so i guess no cover sheet neccessary but i will give em a call tomorow just to make sure🙂
i always tripple check everything...sort of paranoia:laugh:
Did you ever find out anything about this, do we need the form sent as well? 🙂

Page 3:

Compliments of Dr.Kicia:

"and i got the responce from LECOM...they accept interfolio so you don't have to worry about the cover sheet.

and to all of you guys...when you have a question don't waste your time...email schools DIRECTLY...look it just took not even a hour for me to get a responce from admissions coordinator at LECOM, and at least i have a definite answer in writing and know what i am doing...just my 2 cents of advice
best of luck to everyone i am back to my LECOM secondaries"

Finally finished the KCOM secondary. I liked the fact that the app I filled out will count for (SOMA) as well. 👍 It didnt take me long because the essays were the same as LECOMs and DCOM (as Dr. Kicia pointed out). Also received the CCOM. I dont think Im going to apply to this one though. I think I got trigger happy on the designations in the primary. I didnt even realize I had applied until way later.
It is kind of fun checking your email nowadays ya know, whos it gonna be next lol 👍

Thanks ilikescience. It finally came.

I LOVE CCOM😍 so i am applying although i really think the CV form of the secondary is kinda lame...so formal...i am laughing reading it now:
Fashion model
Duties and tasks:
-posing as directed for photographs used for promotional or advertising purposes

-arranging photo shoots with photographers to gather new pictures for personal portfolio

-display clothing and merchandise in commercials, advertisements, and fashion shows

-following strict routines of diet, sleep, and exercise to maintain appearance

-communicating in a professional manner with clients and agents and recording all jobs and payments on agency's vouchers

-assemble and maintain portfolios, print composite cards, and travel to go-sees and castings to obtain jobs

-travel for jobs in the US and abroad

i am sorry but this sounds so lame:laugh:
and my bartender description is even better:laugh::meanie:
like this one: "-determining when a customer has had to much alcohol"😀

i really think now i prefare to write those essays...at least they are more "me" and straight from the heart...so much esier to write...then this damn CV form

You're including way too many duties with the modeling one. If your school has a guide for writing resumes you should try to take a look at it if you can.

i looked at the sample CVs and they always list everything you did...i have even longer list of duties for my personal training job.

resume's are typically a page... How are we supposed to fit all the experiences they want to know about?

It is really good to include the main duties of a job, but a really good looking CV is one that is concise and formated for a particular position (in this case medical school). For instance, when I apply to a research associate position, I include my research, lab or any experiences I have had working in a laboratory or dealing with science. I may include other jobs that I have had that may not relate to the position, but with very little detail. I would only do this in a case where I need to show I wasn't a lazy bum during a period of time. All I'm trying to say is a CV should be tailored for whichever you are applying to. If I were you, I would try to add more detail about anything clinical/health and science related in detail, then briefly mention modeling and bartending, which will show you are a unique applicant. I agree you do not need that much detail about your modeling experience, just describe your success as a model (fashion week, any print ads, etc.). Best of luck:luck:

Resumes are supposed to paint a picture of you in a succint manner. So, you typically want one page that highlights your main activities and a partial description if necessary. A lot of this info is already in your AACOMAS, I think they just want a quick overview of you.

Also, has anyone else not received CCOM? My application was mailed out on July 5th, so I might be in the next batch...

if you want, I can give your CV a looksy. i've done the hiring for a business i work for, so i have some experience judging people by a piece of paper.

In response to the post about WVSOM. Only interviewees receive supplemental apps.
I got an email with an ID and Pin # that allows me to check on my current status.

[Were you actually able to check on the status of your application? I was given a pin # and and ID#, however, I was unable to access anything. I saw no online checklist or links for forms. If we have been assigned a pin# and an id#, does this mean that we are invited to fill out a secondary?

Thanksquote]

well i described more for clinical experiance...but it is already in the mail...i don't think that it will be a problem if i was a little bit more detailed about non medical work i have done... i did it and it is part of me so i felt it was important to write about it...especially that most people don't even know what exactly models do...
anyways it is in the mail so too late now for any changes😳

I got an additional email saying that the status page (that you log in to with pin #) is down for maintenance until next week sometime. With an interview invite, then you get the secondary.

I got Pikeville and both PCOMs via snail mail. Yay.😀

Most skim over longer resumes, but maybe because your circumstances are unique, they may look it over more thoroughly...I would just advise against very detailed job descriptions.

I just finished my app and now waiting to take the mcat!

WOWZERS. I just did the math. So far with primary fees and interfolio fees and secondary fees Ive charged my credit card $1370.00

* did amcas for my state allopathic that added to the primary fee. Not to mention I applied to 19 schools and only have a handful complete. 😱 Its an investment though ! Too bad its not deductable.
