2007-2008 Secondary Application Thread

PHEW, I am out of town and now I finally got my girlfriends poobox computer to work. I about had an MI while due to not being able to check SDN and most importantly my email. I recently viewed that I have secondary invites from AZCOM A.T Still Mesa. I have a feeling that I will hear from KCUMB this week. 👍👍

i haven't sent my lors yet (still waiting on a DO lor) but i asked if they do accept interfolio and they do.

i also can add LMU-DCOM, UMDNJ and both LECOMs to that list😀

ok... LECOM-E said they use virtual EVAL... I assume snail mail is still acceptable then?

i emailed them about interfolio.com and said they accept it...also you can add ATSU to that list...i also emailed them and just checked in my email that they responded and that they said yes...and acctually if you are applying to both ATSUs you just need to send one interfolio file and email the Admissions Office at [email protected] to let them know you will be using same lors for both😀

i think we should sticky that interfolio list at the beggining of this thread...people constantly ask about this stuff.

oh man...i was hoping my DO lor will come in today but i just had that feeling to call his office...and as much as i love my DO and he is a great guy...geez...he didn't write it yet:scared:
but i spoke to his secretary who is a lovely lady and she promissed she has it on his priority list as needed to be done for yesterday😀
so i really hope i will get it this week and then i guess i will spend a fortune to mail it in via priority or express mail😎
i just really want to be early!

what school are you worried about?
 
Same here... there's only so much compulsive interfolio checking I can do... mine still hasn't turned it in yet, despite several reminders over several weeks... I think I'm going to call tomorrow.
 
Has anyone seen the PCSOM secondary? How are we supposed to fill in so much information in such little spaces?

Any ideas?

It says at the top that you can attach a separate piece of paper. I just wouldn't over do it, ya know? Maybe a paragraph for each response.

Whats the deal with the WVSOM id and pin # thing? Its the status page. When should I check it and what exactly does it tell me?

Yeah, I agree it is rediculously tight. I wish I had a typewriter, because my handwriting is horrible when I try to print small. :scared:

As for PCSOM, it asks for letters from a D.O., a Senior science faculty member, and a premed committee. Please tell me that the pre-med committee letter encompasses the science letter. If not, this is the first school to ask such a thing for me.
 
FYI for all who received a secondary to Touro-COM New York:

I e-mailed the admissions guy and he replied w/ this:

"If you received a secondary application you will be given the
opportunity to interview. We will send you a list of dates."

Has anyone seen the campus/facilities? Is it in a bad area?

I dunno if you've ever been to NY, but the school is in Harlem . . . not the nicest area 🙂
 
hmmmm so what exactly about harlem makes it a "not so nice area"...I am being alittle condescending so I apologize in advance.. I grew up in NYC...Harlem is fine... Columbia is in Harlem... NYC is like every where else in the country with just ALOT more people plus better food, more culture, more diversity.... use common sense...do go out late by yourself if you are alone wearing lots of jewelry drawing attention to yourself and you will be fine...

I have been to and lived in other parts of the country...and I will always say this... I feel more comfortable walking through NYC late at night than through these little towns in the middle of no where.... because these are the places where you are kidnapped, held hostage in a basement and tortured for weeks on end without neighbors hearing you scream...

okay my aside!!! but that is wonderful news regarding the TOURO-COM interview... I really hope that's true for everyone!!!
YAAAAY...ooh so I received C-COM today.... my goal is to have these complete by the end of the weekend🙂

I was interviewed for last year's cycle. At the time, they were still renovating the building for the med and pharm school. the area isn't as bad as everyone describes it to be. harlem was fine to me...
 
People probably still have an impression of Harlem that dates back about 10-15 yrs. The area around Touro-NY is very gentrified now. Heck, there's an H&M down the street now :laugh:.

The area is probably a little rougher than most out of towners are used to, but Harlem is a far cry from a bad area nowadays.

Vcom sent me an email a while back saying something along the lines of...

I meet the requirements but we are updating the secondary. It will be done at the end of July and feel free to send in your LORs.

Really? I didn't get that email.🙁 Did you foward your letters of rec to them? I wonder if I should. I am really interested in VCOM.

I don't know what stats they filter... but they require a letter from a D.O. and one from a committee (or science)
 
Hey guys, I just received the invite to complete the LECOM secondary, and I was just wondering what the character/word limit on their essays is. I don't see it specified anywhere. I'm especially curious about the personal "what qualities do I have that will make me a good osteopathic physician" essay.

I don't think they list one, but 500 words is what I am going to do.

All I said was it's not the nicest area and that’s the reality of the situation! I didn't say that it was dangerous or that you shouldn't go there and I was definitely NOT referring to the people who reside in Harlem! I lived in NYC for 3 years and I think most people will agree that parts of Harlem are not the kind of place that you want to be walking home from the school library at midnight. I live in San Francisco now and there are parts of the city that you just have to be more careful in, ya know? The same goes for all big cities 😀 Sometimes when people visit NYC for the first time they are expecting a scene from Sex in the City or some movie and Harlem is far from the stereotypical NYC backdrop . . . . That’s all I was trying to say. I’m not hatin’ on Harlem 😛

I put down 9/6...what about you?

It seems kinda shady, just because I wasn't expecting an interview invite before I filled out the secondary. But at least I'll get to see my sister, who's in their veterinary med. program.

Yeah, I just got an interview invite from Western. However, I just got accepted for this fall to another school, so I will not be going to the interview. Withdrawing application. Good luck to everyone else.

haha...no I know a few schools offer "pre-secondary interviews"...DMU, NYCOM to name a couple. I'm shooting for the 6th, but I have to double check with my co-worker, b/c I think she might be in Vegas and somebody's got to be in the office 😀
