Seriously Richmond is not that bad at all so don't worry about the alarm if you don't already have one on your car. There is a lot of parking either through MCV/VCU or non-university parking lots. You won't have trouble finding a place to park but there is no where to park right on campus (until after 6pm). Parking is about 3 blocks away ('at the bottom of the hill') so its not bad. Where I park is about $35/month but I think if you park with MCV/VCU it is a bit cheaper. A lot of students take the bus, which I think is free w/ your VCU ID card.

You definately need a car since you will have to drive to your preceptor's office for your foundations of clinical medicine course (for those who don't know: each student is paired with a primary care doc so that he/she can practice all the exam skills you with a doc prior to 3rd year).

A few other questions:

1. Are you ever tested on things not part of lectures ie..random stuff from a text?
2. What does the anatomy lab look like - you said that they're fixing it up for next year?
3. Where do most students live (downtown, west end)?

ok...thank you so much!

So unlike college, most of the 'texts' that you have are syllabi made by the professors. Thus everything in them is important. There is just too much info for them to go over everything but they give you en excellent idea of what will be on the exams. Sometimes there are surprises on the exams but that is usually b/c people didn't read and understand the stuff presented well enough. Also, the curriculum office does statistical analyses of each question on the exams so if some are shown to have been misleading they are thrown out (relatively rare). Overall I have felt the tests are very fair but there's just a lot of info to get through.

The lab is really not bad at all. It has everything you need but I think MCV wants to remodel it so they are going to. If you remember Sanger Hall (the place where the admissions office is) the anatomy lab is on the 10th floor. It takes up about half of that floor so it's pretty enormous. I'm going to guestimate that its arout 200x80. It's going to be pretty hard to describe it but here goes.
It has 2 long sides separated by a wall with places to cross sides between the wall. There are about 7 rows of 3 tanks on one side and about 6 rows of 3 tanks on the other side. Between each row there is a large lab bench. There are windows (which is pretty rare for an anatomy lab) so it makes it more pleasant. In the wall are all sorts of cabinets w/ a crazy amt of models and skeletons. Opposite the wall on each side are the windows and also the computers. There are around 15 computers in the lab which makes life easier.

I would say most students live either downtown or in the fan. A few live in the west end or southside but not that many.

15th tomorrow! Good luck!:luck:

I really liked VCU. I am hoping that I get in on Friday as well. If I do I will be choosing between GW and VCU.... Both good schools in my opinion. 🙂

Hello everyone.
I just have a quick question on financial aid information.
Does Virginia allow OOS students get virginia residency after a year like most other states?
I know some states (like michigan) do not give out residency at all so you have to pay OOS tution for all 4 years...
Just want to know so that i can make a decision whether to attend an interview or not. Thanks!

does anyone know around what time the status will change? even if you are not accepted, does your status still change?

No, I asked this specific question at my interview at VCU and the answer was a resounding negative. 4 years of OOS tuition.

What if you get married to a VA resident?! 😉

6PM it will change if you are accepted. Otherwise you won't get a status change.

It's 6:05 Eastern, 5:05 Central. Same as all their other updates, though some people received status update emails after the 6:05 time.

Good luck to everyone. :luck: It was quite a nerve wracking experience. Luckily, I was spared further agony when the status change email came in (10/16 6:03pm EST).

I got my email a few hours late--held up somewhere who knows. But check your status page no matter what, because I was so crushed when I didn't have an email at 7:30 pm and everyone else on studentdoctor.net who got in said they got the email...

Hi Everyone,

I don't know if its just me, but the last status email change I've received was when my file was complete. I had an interview, but I never got an email saying my status changed; I just happened to check my status every day and saw the change. I interviewed in the end of Nov.

My question is: Will ONLY those who got an "on hold" email get a definite decision tommorow?

Is it possible for students who interviewed just 2 weeks earlier (than tommorow) to get a decision without having an "on hold" status?

Thanks alot you guys, and good luck!

Generally only those who get the 'on hold e-mail (or change in status page) have the possibly of having a decision. The notification of on-hold means that you have gone to the committee and gotten a score. If you haven't gotten that message you have not gone to committee yet.

Generally, during this point in the application process, it takes 3-5 weeks to go to committee.

Realize too that even if you go to committee and have gotten the on-hold message already, you may not find out anything tommorrow. The Adcom gives you a score of 1-5 (5 is worst). Above 3.5 and you get rejected. Below that and you may be accepted or in limbo. At each acceptance date (Oct 15, dec 15 etc) the committee will decide where the cutoff will be. If you have a lower (better) number than the cutoff you get accepted. If you have a higher number, you get pushed on till the next round of acceptances and have to wait. So the next round they set another cutoff. Again if you have a lower number than the cutoff you get accepted, a higher number and you get pushed forward again. This can continue until the waitlist is made.

There were people last year who interviewed and went to committee by september and had to wait all the way until march just to find out they were waitlisted.

Well anyways, good luck guys.

oh ok. But I thought that every Monday, the adcom meets to discuss the applications of everyone in the previous week?

Today's the big day! Anyone know if they will give out more than 10-20 acceptances this time? Do you think there are a decent number of people on the ranking list?

They said they plan to send out 70 acceptances. On October 15th date they sent out 20.

:luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

Come onnnnnn baby!

:luck: :luck: :luck: :luck: :luck:

I'm pulling for you guys!!!! Good LUCK!!!!

10 minute warning.... time to empty the bladder...

Anybody get a status change? Am I right to be expecting an email at 6pm Eastern?

Nothing for me yet.. still waiting for something!

BAHHH no status change... Congrats all who got one though!

No e-mail yet. I refuse to go straight to the status page.. Damn my superstitiousnessessess.

Lol, I couldnt resist. Just check that thing and someone who got an acceptance post it... so I can let it go 😉

Nothing for me either. I did check the status page - the same

still nothing. Good luck to everyone who's expecting. I want to get something straight; are those that are already on "hold" status the only ones that have a possibility to get accepted?

Thanks and good luck

havent gotten an email and the status page is the same.
Has anyone seen anything different?

I don't know. I interviewed very early November and did not receive a hold status. However, people have speculated that hold doesn't mean good or bad, just that your file has gone to committee. But I find it hard to believe that my file hasn't gone to committee yet, so it's gotta mean something else.

no change for me 🙁 ....i really need someone to post that they got in so i can let go

That is what in state says. I have had no update and was interviewed in Oct. My interview date and time is still posted! I think they forgot me 🙁 Waitlisted last yr but I was one of the last to interview and less than two wks later I was put on the waitlist.

Somebody please post....I really need to leave my office and do something else besides refresh my inbox

Did it not say on the status page that even if you dont get an offer the page will change a little so you know that offers have gone out? Mine has not changed at all. Good sign or bad?
