there HAS got to be more then one person that has heard something from VCU. It says on my status page that at the top there will be a message when offers are made. That is the only thing giving me hope right now because I have mostly given up.
This is what mine has said since early October:
The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date. We anticipate making offers October 15, December 15, at the end of January, and mid-March.
You will receive no further communication from us concerning your hold status. The next status change will be to offer you a position in the class, to notify you that you have been placed on the alternate list in mid-March, or to notify you that the committee will no longer be considering your file. However, this page will have a message at the top indicating each time offers are made.
We thank you for your interest in our school.
They do not state anything else (i.e. notices about when the acceptances for a certain batch have gone out).

the fact that it says there will be a message on top everytime offers are made indicates that something on that page should change right? I dont know thats how I interept that but guess not. I should just deal with the fact that this date has passed me by.
Your page will only change if you're accepted. It'll remain the 'reviewed' if you weren't. Ya, I thought there would be alot more acceptances, when I called the office they said the biggest batch is given out on Dec 15th, then it just gets smaller afterwards. I know the majority of the OOS class is usually from the waitlist though, so we still have alot of opportunities.

I just would like to hear from one VA resident that has been accepted this time so I will officially give up.
I am a VA resident, who was told in the interview in a cryptic way "you have grounds for encouragement." So I anticipated an email--no dice. I was bummed and a little stupified so I checked the status page and Christmas came early
. I really love MCV and will be seein' you in Richmond."

Having interviewed during the first week of September and waited through the October 15 (16) batch of acceptances, I know that the top of the status page does not change to indicate offers were made. I guess this was an idea that never came to fruition. If your status page is like mine and still hasn't changed, we are in "limbo," which means they have assigned us a priority number that doesn't result in immediate acceptance or rejection. I don't believe they form the waitlist until after the March batch of acceptances, but I'm not positive of this.
What leaves me without a sense of closure is that I've spoken candidly with someone at VCU who explained the one-on-one interview process and priority score assignment is, at best, hit and miss. In other words, interviewers don't always have a strong idea of what their priority score means for an applicant and how that number will be interpreted by their peers on the interview committee. For example, is a score of "2" good enough to get someone an acceptance but not come off as a push-over to my colleagues? How do I score an applicant this year compared to previous years when the school invited more applicants for interviews. The process is probably much more confusing for faculty members new to the process.
I, like others without an update, would just like to see something that confirms our suspicions. A message or email reading "VCUSOM dished out acceptances today, December 15. Although you were not selected for a seat in the class, we remain interested in your candidacy. We will be offering more acceptances next month." would suffice.

All of you guys that have been given an acceptance, please go to the following link and add your name under the appropriate schools. I notice that no one has added themselves for the 12/15 series.

anyone know the liklihood of being accepted later on in the process if you were passed over the first time? I just want to make sure its not unheard of. I interviewed in october and was not accepted in Dec. I just want to know if I might as well just wait for the waitlist or is there an actual shot of getting in on jan and march. Thanks

Of course there is a chance.. Don't give up just yet. I've heard that they have now given out about 90 offers, and that the class of 2010 has 180 students - So there are still plenty of offer yet to be sent in the coming months, and it's still possible to get taken off the wait list after March 15th... Bottom line, it's not over yet, and won't be for, well, more than 7 months.

They meet every Mon. This coming Mon is Christmas and the following Mon. is New Years so the next meeting should be on Jan 8th and the next date for release based on their website is the 15th.
I would assume that the individuals for that batch have already gone to committee in additionto the individuals that have not gone to committee due to the holidays. The last date is March 15 at which time the waitlist is also released.
The big date is Dec. 15. If 70 offers were made on the 15th and another 20 on Oct. 15th; add the 15 individuals who are selected out of high school and who will start this Aug and that makes 100 of the 180 or so slots leaving 40 or less for each of the last two dates.

what do you mean 'out of highschool'?
Most states have programs for instate high school students who have high SATs and plan to go to med school. If the student qualifies he/she has to maintain a certain QCA and then are automatically accepted into medical school after 4yrs. Certain states have accelerated programs where the student begins med school after 3 yrs of undergrad. I'm not sure if the count is 15 per yr at MCV but most schools are at least 10.
Just bumpin' us up! 11 days left 'til the next round of obsessively checking our status!!🙂![]()
One of those things I'd just rather forget about! Good luck everyone, I plan to not think about Jan 15th until the 16th.

Do they actually put our committee score on the website when we get our decision? I know that at the interview, they were telling us about the 1-5 scale and I'm wondering if they actually put that score on the status page??
No, you will never know your score. They call it the "priority" score.
I thought the next release date was February 1, not January 15? I think it says so on their site..but hopefully I'm wrong 🙂
Well, be excited, because you're wrong! I've got an email that says Jan 15 is the next batch date - followed by filling the class on March 15 and establishing the wait list.

Did any pre-interviewees get this status change today, and can anyone comment on what it means practically speaking?:
The committee's file review indicates that they are interested in your candidacy. However, due to the increase in the applicant pool this year, it is clear we MAY be unable to interview all the candidates at your priority score. If we do find that we are able to grant an interview you will be notified by e-mail.

Hey guys, I submitted my secondary in October but completely forgot about the payment fee, and VCU didn't mention anything about it untill end of Dec. So i submitted it Dec. 29th, and got an interview offer Jan 2nd....i'm in state but i only have an MCAT of 26 and a 3.5 GPA, does anyone think I actually have a chance?? thanks!!
Potus8585, that is great that you were able to get such an early interview date. Even though you have a lower MCAT it is not terribly far from the average (29-30). MCV is known to take some applicants with very low MCAT scores so if the rest of your application is solid, you have a fighting chance.
As to the automatic acceptance program that Bleu posted earlier: High School students can apply to this program and if accepted they must maintain a 3.5 average at VCU and are gauranteed admission to MCV. It changes from year to year. I would estimate there are around 15-20 in my class (but there were a lot more that didn't make the cut-off).

I'm not sure when I was complete, but I submitted the app on 9/16 - so it was quite a while ago.

I'm also in NC and waiting on an interview invite for VCU. When was your application complete?

I got that exact same message at the end of december. Then, a week later I got an interview. Good Luck!Did any pre-interviewees get this status change today, and can anyone comment on what it means practically speaking?:

I interviewed the first week in January. Do you think they will have evaluated my application by the Jan 15 acceptance date? How long does it usually take? I hope no longer than 2 weeks.Yeah, I got one, too. It just means the committee has discussed us. We'll either hear something next Monday or March 15.![]()
Score:
I interviewed in the first week of December, the fifth I think, and didn't get the "our committee has reviewed your file and you're on hold" email until yesterday. At my interview they said we would all be presented to the committee later that week and receive word the next week. Obviously that didn't happen, but maybe you'll have better luck than I did. I hope you do, otherwise you'll have to wait until March.

Well, that is exactly what I was afraid of. It seems like your situation last month is exactly like my situation this month. You interviewed the first week and then they did a batch of acceptances on the 15th of that month. I know that they are backed up so I am assuming that I to will have to wait until March. But I do have a little glimmer of hope. It seems that the comittee meeting on a Saturday means they are trying to catch up. oh well... I guess I should just hope for the best!
Does anyone know the reasoning behind giving acceptances Dec. 15 and then again Jan. 15? It would seem logical to do it a month later. Also, if I don't get evaluated by the commitee before the Jan. 15th cut off, there is no possible way to hear anything until March? Just seems like a long time to wait but reading some of the other postings on here makes me believe people have been waiting much longer than me.
It's weird that this thread is much less lively than the one last year. This is my first year applying, Can anyone who was waitlisted last year or rejected tell me how their process went? (dates interviewed, how they thought the interview went, what they heard after the interview, etc.)
Thanks!!! Good Luck to everyone, not much longer to wait....hopefully.

do you guys think you have a certain home field advantave at VCU med if you do undergrad at VCU? one of my friends got accepted in Dec from vcu undergrad with a 3.4 GPA and 25 MCAT....the only somewhat impressive thing she had done was an internship at VCU for the head ofsome deptartment.....but that guy wasn't on the addcom....anyways just interested in what u guys thought!

Definately not.
In my class there are ~21 VCU students. Of those, only ~6 got in who were not in the automatic acceptance program. Remember there are 29,000 VCU students.

i don't really think there is some sort of overwhelming advantage. by going to a university that is attached to a medical school, you get a lot of unique expriences that other students might not recieve (volunteering, research, mentorships, etc). i don't think it gives you preference over another qualified student but being instate prob. helped her more than going to vcu.do you guys think you have a certain home field advantave at VCU med if you do undergrad at VCU? one of my friends got accepted in Dec from vcu undergrad with a 3.4 GPA and 25 MCAT....the only somewhat impressive thing she had done was an internship at VCU for the head ofsome deptartment.....but that guy wasn't on the addcom....anyways just interested in what u guys thought!
i can't wait for jan 15!!!!! unless i get bad news, then i can wait!

Your friend must have had some intersting experience to nail an acceptance with an MCAT so low.
While I don't think that just attending the school as an undergrad awards a particular advantage, I do think that there is a higher chance some of your letters of rec are from individuals that the adcom may be familiar with. Just imagine getting a great letter of rec from Joe Schmo, a well respected researcher. If the individual reviewing your letters isn't familiar with Joe Schmo's area of research, it's just another good letter. Imagine how much more they would favor your file if they either knew that Joe was highly respeted or even moreso if they knew Joe personally.
Other than that, I guess the only other advantage I can imagine is that they know you love the area? ...still wondering how someone with a 3.4/25 got an acceptance before the rest of us...

Yea i'd agree that the undergrad institution prob doesn't matter as much....I've been reading a few different posts and many people think that the interview at VCU is so chill (which it is) but that it's still mainly numbers that convince people on the addcom which way to vote.....i personally think the interview has much more weight than a lot of people realize because i've seen at least 3 of my friends get accepted with below avg GPA/ MCATs who all say they nailed the interview.....but anyways i guess this is all just opinions anyhoo🙂
I interviewed at VCU on December 12 and got this status update just this saturday [1/6/07]:
The Admissions Committee has met to discuss your file. Your application is being placed on hold for action at a later date. We anticipate making offers October 15, December 15, January 15, and March 15.
You will receive no further communication from us concerning your hold status. The next status change will be to offer you a position in the class, to notify you that you have been placed on the alternate list in mid-March, or to notify you that the committee will no longer be considering your file.
We thank you for your interest in our school.
For those who are familiar with VCU admissions, is this just an update that adcom has discussed your file or perhaps a sign that they're still interested in you? Would they have flat out rejected me if they were going to rather than wait till January 15th?. Well, I'll stay positive and hope for an offer in 1 WEEK. Good luck everyone.
